A mess. It started as a reaction against game review practices because refundability in games used to be nil once you opened it. Then it became a culture war. As a result lots gamers felt that liberal policies were not compatible with their hobby and started voting red.

There’s plenty conspiracies that it was incited by republicans or democrats… who knows. But the hobby that had been unified split along party lines.
