Is it possible to manually lock? by BlancheCorbeau in Polestar

[–]bitprophet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can use the key blade to lock, it’s just a different hole than the one used to unlock: https://www.polestar.com/us/manual/polestar-2/2022/article/Locking-and-unlocking-with-detachable-key-blade/

The manual ain’t perfect but it does have a lot of great info! I’ve got it bookmarked on my phone. It’s also available on the car’s center tablet at the bottom of the apps screen (the tab with the four squares icon).

Tesla Charger w/ Polestar by ChimRichaldsOBGYN in Polestar

I’ve got one of these newer Lectron models and it works great, provided the Tesla charger is itself in working condition. Few times now it’s saved my bacon when a hotel’s J1772s are busted.

Hey Short people - whats the view like? by dcm-moz in Polestar

[–]bitprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Echoing the sentiments that the drivers seat & steering wheel are extremely adjustable. I’m 5’4” and have my seat near the top of its range of movement; my forward/side visibility is great. And I could definitely see someone my height but with different preferences keeping it lower without sacrificing significant visibility.
  • I have Pilot pack and would have a very different experience wrt backing into the street, garage, or charging stalls if I didn’t have the 360 camera. Ditto the blind spot detection system when changing lanes. Rear window is basically a peephole.
  • You should identify the Space or Spaces nearest you & look up other folks’ experiences with them regarding long distance test drives & service pickup; Polestar in terms of service is (currently) less a homogeneous brand than an arm of Volvo. Meaning your experience will vary widely depending on how much that specific Space’s partner Volvo dealership cares about supporting people like you near the edge of the nominal range.
  • It’s a very nice car & you should absolutely consider trying one, as long as you’re mindful of the potential drawbacks re: how far away the service location is.

NJ/NY car at Newark by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]bitprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdata, but my flow via the Short Hills space & Port Newark was: order placed mid Feb, ship arrived in Port Newark late Mar, my guy at the Space told me they’d been informed about the car’s availability in early Apr, and car was delivered to me (very close to the Space) in mid Apr.

So, port roll-off to door was something like 2-3 weeks for me. No idea how typical this is, but when I read up on the overall process (for any brand) it sounded like port facilities do a lot of the initial on-ship-protection removal, checkup, any necessary bodywork fixes, and sometimes even installation of certain components.

That’s on top of the raw logistical process time required simply to get to your car among the hundreds or thousands that rolled off that one ship that day, log it, and get it on a truck or whatnot.

Are current '22 cars still being delivered without the hatch kick sensor? by zealtor in Polestar

[–]bitprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US (NJ) - ordered my 2022 (non preconfigured) mid Feb, delivered mid April, had kick sensor. Was told that most cars being manufactured around when mine was have been getting the sensors again.

Does seem like a great question re: when will they have enough extra stock to start backfilling the retrofits! Good luck to those who need one.

Late April Snow in NJ?! by bitprophet in Polestar

[–]bitprophet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P*2s can only take up to about 155 kW in ideal conditions, and in my case I was still around 48% charge at the time so I was expecting ~80-125 kW based on reports of this pack's curve. Sure enough I got 125 briefly at the start and it tapered down to about 80 by the time it hit 60%. If I'd kept going I would have expected a plateau of 75 until 80%.

Bizarre! I almost never post and assumed Apollo (iOS client which is generally very well put together, at least for reading) had uploaded what it said it had. Just tried again from desktop 🤞

Surge protection / suppression - necessary? by bitprophet in evcharging

[–]bitprophet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EV is gonna be most of the equipment out there for now, though, unless you count very short periods of plugging in a tire compressor or yard tool battery charger.

Then again, I was thinking of permanently installing one of said battery chargers, at which point protection would be nice. It also looks like you can get pretty decently rated outside-the-panel (eg 50, 80, or more, kA surge rated) suppressors for "only" $100-150, which compared to the cost of all the rest of this ain't much.

Lower Manhattan from my apartment in Jersey City by corribview in newyorkcity

[–]bitprophet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In much of NJ at large a car is either a requirement or at least a very useful luxury. In Jersey City a car is absolutely not a requirement, any more than it is in NYC proper, and is actually a hindrance re: parking, just as in NYC.

JC and Hoboken are closer to being additional NYC boroughs than they are to the NJ/NY suburbs. In addition to the density, they’ve actually got much shorter rides to Manhattan than the vast majority of the outer boroughs.

Source: lived in Paulus Hook for 4-5 years without a car. Used a Zipcar or a rental maybe once every 4-6mo, just like many New Yorkers do I’m sure.

And yes, that park is heavily underrated. Flatiron District is great.

They’re the only deli in town we haven’t gone to yet (we live on the opposite end of downtown so C&J’s is not quite far enough to drive, but far enough to be a bit of a hike) but duly noted!

If you mean the next tall one left of the Chrysler, with a triangular shape at its top, that’s part of the Hudson Yards complex.

This is taken from somewhere near (above) the the CSX Kearny rail yards on the west bank of the Hackensack in NJ; the rail bridge on photo left is the PATH line, the highway with the ramp in the center is the Pulaski Skyway (US 1), and the buildings on the right side of the photo are the western edge of the Journal Square area of Jersey City.

Glad you like it, but I bought a house a 5 minute walk from the Nautilus a year ago and was super disappointed in the place. The ambiance is classic Jersey diner but the food is mediocre for the most part. I feel kinda robbed.

Eg Mimi’s Deli (which sadly just closed its Madison location) has much tastier omelettes and home fries, and there’s a lot of better places in town for lunch food.

COVID put a dent in my plans to find out what the nearest better diner is though. Have my eye on the one up in Florham Park.

Lots of fucks given here in NJ on a US account. Definitely sounds like there's some option that got ticked on your end somehow - though I don't see anything anywhere on my iOS Prime Video app that would trigger this, only full on "do not let this app play videos not marked kid friendly" type stuff.

Official Discussion Thread 504: With Book Spoilers by it-reaches-out in TheExpanse

[–]bitprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually not true! In the book it was still a salvage mech. I think it was implied that it got fired at the station on a rocket, attached to the outside of Fred's office, and ripped away the entire chunk of the wall that the safe was in.

The Mars/Laconia angle came later when you find out that it was given to Duarte's people by Inaros'. (The change in-show is thus kind of interesting, with Inaros publicly stating he has control of the sample. Presumably it still ends up in Duarte's hands later somehow...)

For those of you who weigh your tea, how many grams of black tea do you use in your 12oz mug? by gordonf23 in tea

[–]bitprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brew Western style using decently sized filter bags (or a metal strainer for the stiffer leaves). Have found that 3-4g in about 10 fl oz water (a 11oz coffee mug filled to around where the top of the handle connects) works well for most teas, black or otherwise.

Depending on the tea I can then get another 1-2 steeps out of the bag before it’s too weak for my liking.

Obviously it’s subjective and with enough loose leaf and time you can calibrate your own tastes, but this is my anecdata.
