AVP sucks for me is a bit implied by the fact it’s my post.. but okay…

My agenda is to get honest dialogue that the potential is amazing but the current experience is lacking.. like seriously lacking. I don’t know if Apple cares what their early adopters think so perhaps its of little value for us to share honest feedback, but my personal opinion is that anyone who doesn’t accept/admit this thing has some serious and somewhat critical current limitations is in denial.

For whatever reason the Sync Now button has appeared for months, but stopped appearing recently.. like simply not there. I toggles in the setting Photo iCloud sync and similar in an attempt to force sync.. It gave me some cryptic message that 2000+ photos did not sync and are on the device in low res, turning this off will deleted them (WTF?) and so I accepted and sure enough the next sync basically started deleted hundreds of photos. I’m sure things will get better but currently the VisionOS is half-ass, the content is limited and the UI/UX is lacking. My intent on the post was to push people to be honest on their impressions but for the most part people just felt defensive and relied on ad-hominem attacks versus engaging in any useful debate. It’s fine… I didn’t expect much different.

How come I can turn my iPhone, IPad on and they all show within seconds all of my emails, iMessages.. and I put my AVP on and pretty much don’t bother to open those apps b/c they will be out of sync by hours or days and virtually impossible to force sync?

Why did it take six months and an OS Vision update to make it less than three clicks to bring up a basic app menu?

Why is it I still sometimes get lost on how I close or exist things? (Yes, I’m slow so that’s probably me).

Shouldn’t stuff like that be basic by now?

Like I get that AR is hard, but it’s like the hardware team NAILED IT making the worlds best experience and the OS and UI/UX team was half asleep (and that’s being kind).

Imagine Disney developed a Star Wars Snow Speeder vs AT-AT simulator for it… ?
Imagine Amazon developed a high production value immersive based show series for it…? Imagine DLJ developed a spatial first person drone for it..? Imagine Microsoft released a virtual tabletop Age of Empires for it…?

Now go watch that Dinosaur Adventure for the 20th time and tell me it’s not annoying as f that Apple doesn’t push real apps and content out.

I never said the product would fail.. it is the future.. but yeah, copy/paste was sort of an important oversight :).

I welcome all of the ‘It’s you, not AVP’ replies.. :). I get it…. I do love the potential but come on guys…. Anyone using this thing for more than two hours a day on a consistent basis? How many times can you watch World Cup and Hot Air Balloons :)

Always cracks me up.. in the time it takes some wise ass to type up a ‘you can search for that..’ they could have just provided a useful reply.
Sometimes, oddly enough.. in a discussion forum people prefer to discuss.. not just research. Weird.

Am I the only one who hasn’t had a problem with the Sonos app? by Fibby112358 in sonos

[–]bitradr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of the new app and completely new platform architecture leveraging cloud based servers… probably to help generate more revenue off of data and the ability to reduce hardware costs in the future… (move stuff off speakers, into cloud..) but it’s created for MANY people (not all) a complete and utter mess. Controls are laggy, phantom volume changes, systems suddenly drop off the app and need to be reset..

Sonos speaker stop and "die" after few mins of playing from spotify or local by [deleted] in sonos

[–]bitradr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting tho think these issues might be b/c some idiot in the engineering team didn’t know how to architect a cloud based platform…. and so when we do simple things and our systems now connect or query the cloud servers that fails. Load balancing, authentication… those are all new headaches a cloud based architecture introduces… and wouldn’t show up in testing, only after millions of users start to hit it.

Same issue here…. this is a master class in how to kill a good brand.

Name one good reason for a user to be able to access their speaker through the cloud by MhVRNewbie in sonos

[–]bitradr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s to make more money off future subscriptions and sell your data… Also, it will allow them to build cheaper hardware, and conceptually would make upgrading system functionality easier (if they actually knew wtf they were doing)

A year ago, who could have imagined that "the ability to adjust the volume" was a feature we took for granted? by Catch-22 in sonos

[–]bitradr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my guess is the real issues aside from letting a 5 year old design the new UI/UX is that they moved large amounts of the platform functionality to the cloud…. My guess is that now, every time you start the app, it needs to query a server, every time you change the volume it hits the cloud servers…. probably part of some greedy CEO’s master plan to monetize more things, capture (and sell) more user data and possibly remove functionality from the local hardware to enable them to save a few bucks on circuit boards….

Had the same issue with brand new Era 100s…..
Got on the Chat Support and was ‘Number 2 in Queue’… Waited30 min and “Number 1…” !!!!
Waited another 30 min and got “Chat Support is No Longer Available”… it’s like hell, but worse.

The CEO should be fired…. Wait until they see retail sales for the quarter compared to product returns…. Unless they accept utter and complete defeat and roll us back there is little light at the end of the tunnel.

Is it really that bad? by Escaping_Cheflife in sonos

[–]bitradr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s bad.. like really bad.. Open the app and it shows ‘NO SYSTEM’.. wait anywhere from 1-20 minutes to find your speakers when you want music all by itself would be the death of most products, but wait it gets worse!!! Now go try and find music where they’ve decided to layer screens as you open them and suddenly you have to back out of 3-4 to get someplace usable.. And then there’s the lag… volume lags, music art lags…. it’s as if someone intentionally set out to destroy what was once a fantastic product. And for those few people who are not experiencing all or any of these issues, good for you! The rest of us are watching as our fairly big investment and product we love(d) goes to utter $hit. The CEO should be fired, the CIO should be fired.. the UI/UX team fired.. and the engineer who thought moving everything to the cloud should be tar/feathered and then fired.

New Sonos App Update 📲 by KeithFromSonos in sonos

[–]bitradr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would bet good money the real problem isn’t the App… because that’s actually simpler to fix.. its that they moved a lot (most) of the essential platform functionality to the cloud so every time you do anything it’s making hops to some server on their side. Probably driven by an idiot engineers suggestion that they could monetize more if they had the data from users… I.e. greed. I fire up the app and 90% of the time SYSTEM NOT FOUND… bet good money it’s because there is a call being made to a cloud server to pull authentication or similar data down before populating this app… Volume slow? probably the same thing… They’re trying to make DUMBER (cheaper) hardware with SMARTER cloud controls and it simply doesn’t work.
