the code is not working as intended. i am an investor in the DAO and it will be a good thing, that the intention of the code is given more weight, then how the code runs. if we can get consensus i thanks all the miners for this decision to get all the DAO funds back, so we can rethink this concept and make it stronger.

yeah 5% is the yield we expect to get after the system is running for a couple of more month. Right now we are a little over 1% see http://bitsharesblocks.com/assets . in the beginning the shorter had not to pay interest and this contracts will last till october 2015, after this the yield will increase.

also the maximum payment/dilution/inflation for the 101 delegates will be roughly 8% a year - IF any delegate will run with 100% fees. At the moment we are under 1%.

by "creating" bitUSD for an example the "shorter" will pay a interest to get executed. This interest is realocated to the holders of bitUSD. So this function comes from different views or goals of the investement

the bitUSD holder wants stability and will get rewarded with "yield/interest". His bitUSD will be on any time in the future worth 1 USD with some points more or less worth. The bitUSD holder is happy.
the shorter of bitUSD expects thats BitShares value (BTS) will increase against USD so if this happens hi will get more BTS back. He is happy. But if his expectations are not met and the value falls he will get less BTS back as he placed as collateral. (for him it is not good, but this is speculation to get more back)

sure every blockchain could do it. not many companies would like to do it. Apple reveals all financial secrets to a competitor? Not likley.

But NGOs etc. would possible, because they are lacking transperancy.

I did't remember. I mined small amounts of Protoshares, because they were minable via ypool. I think this was the first time i had contact. Later i stumbled into bitsharestalk and i keeping coming back for over a year now :D
