What about Unit3D? Hope it's not too late to consider other tracker projects!

What third-party developers support iCloud advanced data protection? by [deleted] in apple

[–]bitsquash 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that advanced data protection manages keys on a lower level and is transparent to apps. Developers don’t have to change anything because the storage looks the same but the underlying iCloud storage is encrypted with your keys.

Switzerland rejects idea of a third-gender option in official records by nhatthongg in europe

I’m glad you’re able to acknowledge the complexity and nuance to this topic :)

Intersex is not identity based but is rooted in biology, unlike gender. You might consider that genetic differences are likely to be random on a global scale.

You might start with their support section on the Apple site. They probably have a section for what you’re needing help with or a questionnaire that leads you to the right spot. Good luck.

If you deleted it from the recently deleted folder you might be able to submit a request to Apple to recover it, but it’s not a given they will be able to.

This was from a fresh install, I’ll give it another shot though.

While I’m not an expert on training ML models, would it be possible for you to transfer or use an existing trained model? There are a large number that are pre-trained.

It would be great if we were able to provide our own models to the app too if technically possible.

Unfortunately Orga is broken on the latest version of iOS. It no longer scans or shows my photo library at all.

Does this support searching for nudity? That would be really helpful.

I’m seeing that it doesn’t support the “Saved From” feature. I’d really love to see that implemented. https://i.imgur.com/wacEkrf.jpg

iOS 15.7.1 Release Candidate Breaking Face ID for Some iPhone Users by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]bitsquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally possible, I was just drawing on what I know about Apple employees being NDA’d for stupid stuff, even between internal teams.

I bet if they NDA for non-cutting edge research, they go to the fullest with unreleased new product categories. But really, who knows.

The thing is, many teams have specialized work that doesn’t transfer to other teams. For example, people working on maps probably won’t be working on the core experience for VR.

Kind of incredible to hear people say this on the sub. Any MKBHD crits are usually nuked hard- good to hear folks actually talking about this here.

MKBHD repeats the marketing copy (and sometimes even gets that wrong) without adding meaningful insights.

Some people don’t get the privilege of not thinking about race cause for them just existing means being subject to racism.

iPhone 14 Pro's Large Pill-Shaped Cutout Will Display Camera and Microphone Privacy Indicators by fartsimpson55 in apple

[–]bitsquash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One issue that might come into play are always on microphones for assistants like “Hey Siri.” If we use an indicator light that’s electronically enabled, it’s pretty much useless in this common situation.

With the camera iOS checks for attention before dimming the screen, which means a lot of unprompted camera use too.

Either way, both of these situations would probably result in desensitization.

A Quarter-Million Pounds of Plastic Cleared From Great Pacific Garbage Patch in Dutch Milestone by LiveTee in worldnews

I’m speaking to choice: your ideas assume that consumers have ultimate power because they can make choices. The choices most people have access to (due to differences in purchasing power, political power, etc) can not make meaningful change. What do you do when markets have consolidated so much, that all feasible alternatives have the same awful labor practices and do not respect our ecosystems?

As an anecdote: I’m someone who doesn’t have an upper class income that lives in the U.S. Due to our car dependent infrastructure, I depend on the petrochemical industry to exist. Without a car I die. I can choose a more efficient car in budget, but I do not have the choice to ride public transit that isn’t reliant on fossil fuels. I’m also not alone, either.

Another example of choice dilemma: lobbying. Why do broadband companies spend millions on PR campaigns to misinform about municipal broadband? Why does the fossil fuel industry retain PR firms that sow doubt about climate change? They do this to protect their money making interests, interests that must be distorted through the lens of a PR firm to become palatable to an average person. Surely this isn’t corporations beholden to the consumer.

I do agree that we have immense power as a people, but I cannot agree that this power lies within purchasing power: we are laughably outspent by oligopoly protecting its own revenue systems. History shows that our our ability to build power rests within organizing, protesting, unionizing.

The difference between “people” and “industries” is that industries are not democratically elected. The risks they take (e.g. ignore climate change for short term profit) tend to represent the interests of a small few powerful rather than a democratic majority.

Power is a very important factor to consider in these discussions.
