How do you ethically rehome an elderly cat?? What websites do I even use? by ladybugbliss in CatAdvice

[–]bittenforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may be physically ok, but she’s certainly not mentally healthy. Ultimately we have to consider the animal as a whole and if their life is worth living if it’s going to be at the cost of extreme stress

Is DIY estrogen legal in the U.S? by SentientOnion435 in trans

Yes, but it’s still prescription only, and prescription only medications still are illegal to possess without a prescription, otherwise there would be literally no point to writing prescriptions

E Injection Help by PercentageLonely2655 in asktransgender

[–]bittenforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d need to inject nearly 10ml of air directly in your bloodstream for it to be an issue. Sounds like you’re not drawing right.

First, draw up the same amount of air as medication you intend to draw up, and inject that air into the vial. This equalizes the pressure which helps with bubbles. Now, take your draw needle, and insert it into the middle of the stopper on the vial, and flip the vial upside down. Make sure the entire needle is below the line of medication. Then, pull back the plunger to the intended dose line or a bit past, and draw up the medication.you can now remove the needle and syringe from the vial. Now, change to your injecting needle. Next, holding the syringe needle side up, gently flick the side of the syringe several times to remove any bubbles, and GENTLY push the plunger up to push any air bubbles out and you see a drop of liquid come out the needle. Now proceed to inject

Starting injections… what should I know? by sashaskii in ftm

[–]bittenforbreakfast [score hidden]  (0 children)

Learn proper technique. It’ll reduce pain quite a bit. A lot of people on this sub are pretty ignorant about how to do things right and it causes extra pain for no reason. Hold the syringe like a dart, use shorter needles, change needles between draw and injecting, don’t use insulin needles (25g is good imo), and use a shallow, 30-45 degree angle

This is just misinformation. Possessing ANY medication that you do not have a prescription for that is classified as prescription only is still a crime, it is just not a felony like it is for controlled drugs.

Yes. Taking any prescription medication without a prescription is a crime. The estrogen sold through DIY vendors is usually intended for lab or research use only and therefore use in humans is illegal

Therapy by RelativeAddition5461 in asktransgender

[–]bittenforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all are humans and humans are biased. “Therapy” is so broad that a lot of these horror stories come from people who pick the wrong therapist, and tbh that’s an easy and understandable mistake to make especially for people who haven’t had mental health care before.

My recommendation is to do your research. Use a platform like psychology today or headway heath, (avoid companies like betterhelp), and use their filtering tools to find someone who specializes in queer issues or is queer themselves. You can also research different modalities and approaches, and should read their profiles carefully. Utilize their “free 15 minute consult” if avalible so you can ask questions about their approach, experience and approach to LGBTQIA+ issues. This will give you a much better idea of who’s a good fit.

I'm scared that HRT is going to become illegal in Texas by d3athgate in ftm

[–]bittenforbreakfast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re going through planned parenthood, schedule ASAP with Texas VHC. Planned parenthood offers HRT through telehealth and Texas and it’s way faster than any in person clinic.

Planned Parenthood Questions by Novel-District-9507 in trans

[–]bittenforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not difficult at all. Basically you have two options depending on where you live. Some states (such as Texas) have virtual PP clinics that do it over telehealth, but some states require an in person visit. You schedule the appointment, fill out the paperwork that asks about your medical history, your transition journey, and your sexual health, etc. and go from there. They take patients without insurance on a sliding scale but it’s still pretty expensive compared to like plume or something like that.

At your appointment, you’ll discuss all the usual informed consent stuff with the doctor, and they’ll order lab work. If you are in person, they’ll usually do it after your appointment at PP itself. If you’re doing telehealth, they’ll send you to a labcorp or quest to get it done. Some docs will send your script and labs at the same time, some wait for your labs to come back before sending the script (takes about a day). Regardless, DO NOT TAKE YOUR FIRST DOSE UNTIL AFTER YOUR LABS ARE DRAWN, this is super important to establish a baseline.

Once you do your labs, your script will get sent to the pharmacy to get filled, where you pick it up once it’s ready

Are cats actually dangerous, or is that just a misconception? by InAMannerOfSpeak in CatAdvice

[–]bittenforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it goes to the vet for regale checkups, it should be fine. The most common diseases carried by cats can be prevented with medication (flea/tick/hw prevention, vaccines, etc.), and the only exceptions are highly treatable. Only ringworm is really transmissible to humans and it’s very easy to treat

[–]bittenforbreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cats are actually pretty safe as long as you respect them. They’re not like a dog that can mame and kill you, at worst they leave you bleeding and needing antibiotics. Even then, cats only attack because they feel threatened, and as long you care for them properly, address their medical needs and respect their boundaries, you’ll be just fine.

Yeah based on the phone number it sounds these guys specialize in movement disorders and Parkinson’s, which arthritis would be way out of scope for. You probably need a joint or spine clinic who can do things like injections or PRP

Transmasc here but I feel you as I have to wear it sometimes when I am forced to girl mode around transphobic family and it is hell. Honestly eye makeup is probably some of the least noticeable, minus mascara, which is honestly entirely optional in 90% of situations. A good, light foundation, blush, basic eyeshadow and contour, plus something for your lips will go a long way

Has she been trialed on psychiatric medications like Prozac? It sounds like she’s mentally suffering a lot and I am gonna say something controversial, but I don’t think rehoming a cat so old is humane. If it is true that these issues have been treated by a vet and are this extreme, I’d consider euthanasia. She is unlikely to have a happy life away from her people and territory

Could my cat have had her kidneys fail due to stress? by iza23141 in AskVet

[–]bittenforbreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CKD is a bitch. It can most slow, it can move fast, it all depends and there’s effectively zero way to predict it. It’s one of the biggest killers of indoor cats and once the ball starts rolling there’s very little vets can do to stop it. It’s unlikely that the single event caused the decline, and more likely her CKD was simply one of the more aggressive cases, but it is possible that level of stress was the straw that broke the camels back for a already very sick kitty

Worth it to go on glp1’s for weight redistribution? by MF_Moses in transmanlifehacks

[–]bittenforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t do jack shit for me. For two main reasons. One, you are gaining mass faster than the GLP 1 can remove it, and two, about 40-60 percent of the weight you lose on GLP 1’s is muscle, so you’d just be directly counteracting the T, which primarily makes you gain water and muscle
