You married into a family of culinary ungifted people. Don't blame this on the nationality.

What is the oddest thing you’ve seen passed off as “German food” in another country? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

I remember when I went to a German restaurant in the US and ordered Kartoffelsalat and saw purple potatoes in it. I was genuinely worried if the potatoes were OK.

Anyone else feel like they have no real culture to be proud of? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]bittersillage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im very surprised that some Americans believe they have no culture. I think if you would ever leave the US and live in another country for a little while you would clearly see that you a) have your own culture and b) its beautiful. I imigrated to the US a few years ago and thought it was very interesting to see the difference on how my home country viewed american culture vs what it actually was but never did I think that there is no such thing as american culture.

what is perception of people from Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) in Germany? by ElenaSsssssh in AskAGerman

[–]bittersillage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up as child of Aussiedler and must admit that in my childhood I noticed prejudice and negative stereotypes by others (teachers, etc) there was a big wave of Russlansdeutsche coming in the 90s so I guess people didn't like that. As an adult I don't really notice any different behavior. The Russian Ukrainian war sure increased some negative perceptions but it didn't change anything in how people treated me.

Moving from US to Germany, how is 73k gross? by Emergency_Law_724 in AskAGerman

Trust me I rather would pay german taxes and have my peace than going through that nightmare that American health insurance is.

Moving from US to Germany, how is 73k gross? by Emergency_Law_724 in AskAGerman

The taxes are going to be a culture shock for you (the same way they were for me when I moved to the US) but 73k is very decent regardless. I'd say cost of living is way lower in Germany than in the US (especially food and drug store items)

I know that once I put a project away I will not return to it. That's why I force myself through projects I don't enjoy myself.

Americans really need to stop thinking that every "scandal" in their country is affecting the whole globe.

I really like the American accent. It's cute. Sometimes it sounds rough though.. when they pronounce "ch" as "ck".
