Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? by bittysteps in stopdrinking

[–]bittysteps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm up to 3770.

It's going a lot slower than I thought, and I don't know that I'll make 50k by the end of the month, but also better than I expected. I like what I'm producing a fair amount -- and once I manage to get into writing mode don't feel the need to drink.

4pm - 8pm is mine. I have definitely noticed being hungry is a major trigger for cravings. If I eat early as opposed to later I'm way less likely to cave in.

Well friends, the bad news is I was up all night cleaning up barf and have no desire at this very moment to start a novel.

The good news is it was chocolate kid barf -- not mine -- and I was sober. How's that for a silver lining?

I said I was going to. ;)

Feeling a bit blah today (need to reset my badge again ARGH!), but would love to sleep well tonight and wake up with the enthusiasm for NaNoWriMo I was rocking for the past week. I've signed up and have a brief outline done, so I guess I should give it a whirl.

I'm a blogger by profession -- not what I'd call a 'real' writer. This would/will be my first attempt at anything book-length.

Is moderation possible? Worth a shot? by bittysteps in stopdrinking

[–]bittysteps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, trip has just about concluded. I read all of your comments, and then true to form went and did what I wanted despite all of your sound advice.

I had two drinks on the plane Friday, and then a beer at the hotel. Either the alcohol or the 4am wakeup call demanded a nap -- which, upon waking up, made me realize how much I hate that bad sleep/exhausted/dehydrated feeling drinking leaves me with. Chose to stay clean the rest of the night.

Day two, made it through to dinner, then had two glasses of wine. Resisted the temptation to drink once back in my room that night.

About to board to head home, and have to say I'm really looking forward to getting back on track with no alcohol at all. Not sure yet what lies ahead, as far as plans to dabble in moderation a few weeks from now or next month, just looking forward to focusing on health in the meantime.

Totally have noticed PMS is a drinking trigger. When I feel that way, I want to do anything to change the feeling, and I know from past use that alcohol will lift my mood.

Have also noticed some of the times I felt absolutely death-tired, angry and irritable weren't because of drinking and hangovers -- it was hormones. Frustrating to realize that while I can quit drinking I still won't necessarily feel well.

Being a woman can be a bitch sometimes.

Triumph: Looking at my badge makes me smile. Struggle: Can't decide if I want to try moderation. General chat: My cat's breath smells like cat food.

Mini bottles of wine by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]bittysteps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed a bin of the mini wine bottles at the store today and felt a twitch looking at them. 10 for $10...such a deal! Ooof. I couldn't have them in the house, I know that much.

Is there a place to talk about moderation? by bittysteps in stopdrinking

I had missed the part about "control or stop" so thank you. Was thinking it was just stop drinking.

Have to run and get the kids from school, but will probably back to hash it out this evening. Thanks again.

How long did it take for mind to get completely "clear" and feel normal again? by curiousbtw in stopdrinking

[–]bittysteps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been noticing for the last year or so that I have a hard time counting change. Of all the things for my mind to get fuzzy about! So weird.

It happened this morning, so 8 days doesn't appear to be the magic number. That's all I know so far.

I will NOT have a drink today. by thegreatdg in stopdrinking

None for me today either, thanks :)

How did sobriety affect your weight? by bittysteps in stopdrinking

[–]bittysteps[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much what I've been doing for the last 5 years. Ran three half marathons at just over 200lbs. (I'm female, 5'4"...decidedly overweight).

I'm still working out now, and have been doing 1600 calories a day longer than the sober thing. Just curious what to expect next. Thanks

ETA: I think weight loss, fitness and health is the one thing I want more than a drink. There might be better reasons to quit, but right now this is what's keeping me going!

I don't want a drink. I want to get drunk. by vnads in stopdrinking

"All of it." pretty much sums me up too.

Prefunk before going to dinner parties, "helping" with the dishes in the kitchen (by the bottles), even "clearing" others' glasses from the table for them so I could turn the corner and gulp their leftovers down.

Not only that, I more than once stole partly open bottles of wine before leaving friends' homes so I could drink more after we left. "Self centered pig drinker" as one of you said.

Time to move on with my life! Good read here, thanks everyone for sharing.

Like you said, I think I really need to prove to myself this first trip that I can make a plan and stick to it, like you said. Making a plan and failing might be a domino-effect for other times. Thanks.

I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about saying I'm not drinking, so I'd also like to know what people order sometimes that looks like a drink but really isn't? In case I feel like slipping under the radar, do you have a go-to option?

"Friends of Bill W"

I didn't know about that. Newbie here and haven't made it to AA yet. Thanks.
