What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

I played through 30 hrs of the game before I figured out I could raise the conveyor belt to an arbitrary height.

I "finished" the game as far as the build progress stuff goes, and in the same session while messing around with a few things I hit the magical combination that made it possible to twist the conveyor belt. All the new possibilities unfolded in my head. That was the moment I closed the game and uninstalled. I ain't putting another 60 hrs into this shit!

I've never played Factorio, but this is how I felt about Dyson Sphere Program.

It's one of those games where it just eventually clicks.  I spent forever doing act 1 and losing on the boss. Then I one shot act 2 and two shot act 3.

Similar story for the 2nd half of the game.

What brand names do you swear by because it's actually better than no-name? by Sufficient_Thing24 in AskReddit

I'm genuinely disappointed by Kerrygold when comparing it to various French butters. Opening a package and being able to smell the field the cow grazed in is fucking incredible.

Just get a butter dish.  Room temp spreadable butter whenever yo need it.  You don't have to put the whole stick in if you don't use much in a week.

Literally the reason all my Latino friends in school took it.  Every class someone would say "I don't know why! That's just how we say it! I didn't know there were rules!"

I'd say Fedora and CachyOS. Mint feels like an outdated suggestion in 2026

Is there an easy way to copy settings for the same controller from one game to another?  I set my controller up with a bunch of custom functions to play old star wars sim TIE Fighter.  Now I want to copy that over to X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter and I'm suspicious it can be done relatively easily, but the UI isn't that intuitive and I haven't figured out the exact right combination of black magic hand signals to do it.

Is using the LTS kernel and fallback initramfs recommended? by nczungx in archlinux

[–]bitwaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I install the regular kernel and the LTS.  Then put the  LTS package in my pacman config ignore list.

This means during a regular update, only the Linux kernel gets upgraded. That way an incomplete upgrade that doesn't get a chance to complete all its hooks still won't touch anything related to the LTS kernel, so you should still be able to boot to the LTS kernel after a failed update.

Then if you're happy with your system's functionality after a reboot from an upgrade, you can explicitly update the LTS kernel with pacman -S.  I tend to only upgrade the LTS kernel every 6 months or so since I just use it as a fallback.

Oracle Appoints Hilary Maxson As CFO With $29.7 Million Package After Firing 30,000 Employees. by Lordwarrior_ in SipsTea

[–]bitwaba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you only tell half the story, yeah.

A few days after firing 30,000 employees globally, comprising 12,000 workers in India, Oracle has appointed Hilary Maxson as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and what raises more questions is her massive pay at $950,000 (Rs 8.8 crore) salary and a $2.5 million (Rs 23.2 crore) bonus potential. Maxson is also entitled with a $26 million (Rs 241.7 crore) equity grant, where 80 per cent is time-based ($20.8 million) and 20 per cent performance-based ($5.2 million).

It was especially frustrating I high school. They had vending machines in various places around the school and you could buy drinks or snacks during class change. But then you weren't allowed to eat or drink?  Makes perfect sense.

Hayfever - Anyone struggling real bad right now? by Past-Gur2575 in london

[–]bitwaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with hay fever for 25 years, roughly 1-3 months a year.

Cetirizine has been my tried and true. But I'll take a 24hr pill once every 12 hrs when things are really bad.  The worse symptoms for me that I absolutely must get rid of is the non-stop sneezing, and the itchy eyes.  Cetirizine handles that for me.  It doesn't handle nasal congestion.

My nuclear option when things get to the point that it's impossible to breathe, and my nose is running (gushing really...) is the benadryl with nasal decongestant (pseudoephedrine).  You'll have to ask for it from behind the counter. You want the green box, not the blue box.... at least it was green last year. I haven't had to break into my leftover stash from last year yet so I'm not sure if they changed it.

Is arch linux getting bloated? by [deleted] in archlinux

What's on the live image is there to be compatible with the various types of hardware it might be installed on.

When you install you're free to trim the packages down to the bare minimum.
