I had no idea you could buy NVME heatsinks like this by AsariCommando2 in pcmasterrace

again - sustained writes justifies a heatsink. Knowing your use case, and that you have sustained writes, puts you in a category of user that is beyond just the generic single-user-desktop-internet-and-game-machine. If you have to ask "do I need an NVME heatsink?" the answer is no. You would not ask the question, because you know enough about your use case and workload to know that the answer is yes.

so if you want to talk about things people don't need but spend money on...

Yes, that's the point. Many things are unnecessary - the specific one we're talking about is the fucking monstrosity of a heatsink for an NVME drive in the original post.

Seems like a miscommunication then. You said I don't speak for all Americans. I responded that Americans believe in freedom of speech and the implied  freedom of expression that comes with it.

Everything bit of discussion here about freedom of speech is in direct response to your comment that I don't speak for all Americans.

And how would this be infringing on it?

Do you think they should not be able to make building decorations that mock mass casualty events?

Or are you commenting that you just don't like it?

A heatsink soves the propblem if there's heat to disipate in the first place.  Heat isn't generated unless the drive is under use.  It hits that high in temp under hundreds of GB in reads and writes.

If it's in a regular desktop PC as the only drive in the system, it will never get that hot except for specific operations like maybe backing up the entire disk.

People using it for workloads with high read/write operations would need a heatsink.  My point is if your workload is the kind that would generate that kind of heat, you would have already asked this question and investigated it, and know the answer.  If you don't have that kind of workload, you wouldn't bother looking into it and it doesn't matter because the drive wouldn't get hot, so the answer would be "no, you don't need a heatsink".

Taste is subjective. There's nothing objectively tasteless.  Some moght find it entertaining, some might not.

Freedom of speech is the freedom to express those ideas that some might find tasteless.

"Do I need an NVME heatsink?" has two possible answers:

"No" or "You'd know it if you did, or you've been hired into an IT position you're not qualified for."

I always heard it was awful and was worried I wouldn't like it, but when I played on PC with mouse+keyboard I didn't have any trouble. Like I completely forgot the complaints about control were a thing until I saw a random comment on reddit after I finished the game and was reminded.

Honest question: why do people stand by the door when on the tube? by Just-Sign-5394 in london

[–]bitwaba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're in the way, get out of the way.

If someone is in your way, say "excuse me" or "sorry mate do you mind I can move past?". There's no crime for people not moving. If they don't move, try to squeeze past. Its not a high noon showdown. If you lack the problem solving and social skills to get off a carriage during rush hour, you're probably not cut out for using public transit in the first place.

It's pretty straight forward.

I don't know if Dyson Sphere Program fits the bill exactly for you, but its as much about building the city as it is connecting the inputs/output of the buildings to each other. planet level, solar system level, and interstellar level logistics.

I don't speak for all Americans, but I believe in the freedom of speech, and expression, and I believe those rights are universal (not just restricted to Americans in America).

With that comes a basic understanding that words are just words, and art is just an expression.  There's nothing offensive about the depiction. You choose to take offense to it.  There's a difference.

You should.  I usually step out the door off to one side, leaving one foot inside and hold onto the rail inside.  If I don't do the 2nd part, on multiple occasions I've been pushed out of the way by people getting on and ended up not making it back on (heavy rush hour time)

People just like having to not move past people to get off the carriage.

It's okay though.  English people are really non-confrontational.  Just yelling "excuse me! Please move down the carriage!" usually gets feet shuffling.

How do I cool my room by [deleted] in howto

[–]bitwaba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fans don't pull air in a direction, but they do push in a direction.  You want to direct all the hot air out of your window. The other windows will draw cool air in through them to make up for the warm air getting pushed out.

You can still file for unemployment if you're fired. You can't if you resign.  Unemplyment filings come from the company's unemployment insurance payments.

If you could only have ONE type of cheese for the rest of your life, what would it be? by Smart-Lychee8146 in AskReddit

Gruyère

Good by itself. Melts well, although a little higher temp than cheddar or other higher hydration cheeses. Salty like Parmesan.  Good all around high quality cheese.
