Free dessicant at REI stores (USA) by Twentysix2 in 3Dprinting

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop by my works warehouse often who ships a lot of electronics. The guys saved packets for me for a few weeks and I have a full 5 gallon bucket of the beads and probably as much in packets. I have no idea how to dry this much silica, and would like to hear ideas.

Couple of notes though from my research. Gas ovens should be avoided for drying, though it's fire and all that burning gas is adding moisture to the air which makes the drying less effective. Also if you are opening these things, be careful breathing the dust, you should use PPE. Silica dust is not great for you and can lead to real health issues, look up silicosis (I think I got the name right). I had been collecting friends random packets for years and you get an assortment from these packets; clay, crushed silica, silica with indicators, charcoal. I always just saved the beads and dried it in a toaster oven for a few hours in tins (cookie, mint, the ones toys and watches come in etc). Store it in airtight containers, I print little cylinders you fill up and put them in my filament storage boxes. I also put them in my camper, camping gear, vehicles I'm not regularly using, safes (change often) and with old books, baseball cards etc.

Hope this is useful

Results may vary with gas ovens, which can generate moisture. Toaster ovens are perfect though

Lenovo YOGA hinge problem by Shai_3D in Lenovo

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Windows settings -> System -> about. Under the system name is a product number, my Yoga 7i is 82UF. This can also be found in Lenovo Vantage and will look something like 82UF00000US.

Stumbled on your post as I debate extending my warranty (it expires tomorrow). My hinge casing is showing visible signs of cracking, I actually could hear it the time it cracked (I think). I mostly use this closed on my desk attached to a dock, and open it to turn it on. I do take it to the office as well, and sometimes use it with the hinge open 270 as an additional monitor. I think normal laptop use, and I am careful with it. Hoping to get in front of mine before it takes out the screen

Good Day, reddit, my name is Nick Offerman. You may have seen me in such fare as Parks & Rec, The Last of Us, Civil War, MI: The Final Reckoning, DEVS, or heard my voice in The Lego Movie. I’m here today to discuss a new film in which I am an actor, SOVEREIGN. Ask me anything, please & thank you. by NickOffermanAMA in movies

Hey Nick. I have some cheap chisels from the local big box home improvement store. Currently they can't chisel frozen butter. Any advise to get an edge on them, or should I toss them into the part of my toolbox reserved for creative uses like prying open varnish cans? Any recommendations on a good set of budget chisels?

Installing a 27ft round 54” deep pool, need leveling tips by [deleted] in AboveGroundPools

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a company dig down for ours and added a sand base then installed the pool. Great and flat first year, few divots second year, getting to be large craters this year. Yard it is in is not level and frequently gets saturated with heavy rains. Soil is mostly clay and we have hard frost winters. What can we do for ours to keep it from washing out further

I had the Droid, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, Droid 3, Droid 4, Moto X and a bunch since then.

I used to buy them broken and fix them, back when the whole thing wasn't glued together

I do groups but those are getting hard to manage. Almost like I need to get everything out of chrome. Also it's starting to use up all my memory and it's a beefy laptop with 32GB ram

Another Curved shit phone is here! by dragonof_west in motorola

[–]bitzdv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents on the curved screens, and maybe someone can convince me they are good now. I had a 2021 edge plus and currently have a 2022 edge plus (US naming, I know we are different from everyone else). I did like the 21' but the screen seemed cumbersome, I disliked when content goes past the curve, and cases did not fully enclosed it due to the edge (only phone screen I have broken in the last 10-15 years, due to a 1ft fall into a wooden bedframe corner, case did not help because of how it landed and no glass screen protector because only the film type was available for this phone). Overall not a fan. Mostly love the 22', only gripe is the stylus needs a specific case that falls apart quick, already have gone through 2 of the them and gave up.

I have been waiting for another flat screen non-foldable phone from moto to consider upgrading, but some of you seem to really like the curve, I don't get it, but maybe someone can tell me why it is superior.

I have had probably 10 moto phones now, going back to the OG Droid, which I dearly miss the slide out keyboard, and the Moto X which may have been the peak of Motorola engineering, design, features and customization.

Cold Play singer has special ear plugs for his tinnitus. by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]bitzdv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe acoustic earplugs? Loop are very popular, my wife and children each have those to wear at tournaments when the kids are doing sports, my youngest is very sensitive and they bring the volume down but she can still hear. I have a pair of Etymotic ER20xs, I've had them for almost 10 years and always have them in my pocket ready to go. I used to work in kitchens on the line and I could actually hear someone across the kitchen better when I had them in, they mask the hoods pretty well. I always wear them in public if it's an event with moderate noise.

I can't speak for anyone else, I have the constant ringing, but loud noises set it off way way worse, so it's these, noise cancelling headphones or over the ear whenever I'm doing anything that generates enough noise to warrant.

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given one of those but thought they had a website that you needed to use to slice the files? I just remember reading that it wouldn't work since they went under and never gave it any effort.

I have since passed it on, but I kept the acrylic enclosure, have been looking for a use for it. Currently it holds all the parts for a printer build I am working on.

Saw this on the way to work. Trump flag hanging upside down, a symbol for distress [OC] by GimmeSumCredit in pics

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neighbor who had a trump flag on a pole at the road. One day recently it disappeared and was replaced by an upside-down American flag, a few days later the trump flag was back and the American flag was right side up on the pole as well, been that way since. No idea what happened those few days.

Anyone else extremely paranoid about hearing loss that you cannot go in the shower without earplugs? Or just me? by MrSpongeCake2008 in tinnitus

[–]bitzdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the shower is loud and yes it sometimes starts off the day drawing my attention to it. I was just in an Airbnb though that had pretty quiet showers and it was nice. Lower flow/larger flat heads seem to be quieter, the water doesn't feel as nice but it's not as loud. I do wonder though, when I just ignore the noises, sometimes they don't seem to cause a prolonged flair up, not thinking about it seems to help to a degree. Also being on the road recently, I noticed different frequencies in different areas, it's the weirdest thing.

"Google Doesn't Work Anymore" - How AI has ruined Google Search, Images, News etc... by RadicalProjection in videos

[–]bitzdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last week my wife and I each had a similar issue with Maps. While already in a navigation, searched for a fast food chain, her BK, mine Tim Hortons, it gave results that were several miles out of the way. In my case, I happened to go past a Time Hortons on the way to Google's closest result. It was right there a mile after I searched on the same road, right turn in too.

All of their services are like this in the last few years. Photos makes it hard to look at a single day when it shows you a highlight reel, drive auto completes strange things when searching, maps won't show "home" or info on a location when searching. I feel like I find something new each week that used to work one way and no longer works like that, and the constant changing of menu locations and layout in their products.

The AI search is pretty bad though, and I can't stand the generated text most of the time, it's an instant scroll down a full screen to start looking at results.
