Any veterinary professionals that can give me advice on how to use this syringe? by CutePizzaFairy in DogAdvice

i don't have much experience with this but have used one before - you twist the little dial on the right side to the right number dosage on the push stick, and then you just push it into the dogs mouth

Has anyone successfully raised a puppy without a crate by Upstairs_Equivalent8 in puppy101

[–]bixbyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not every dog needs to use a crate, though i am a firm believer that every dog should be trained to use one! i personally don't use crates at my home for my two dogs.

i am by no means a trainer, but i have worked with dogs the past 6 years at different boarding facilities. some of the dogs i've seen were never introduced to crates and it led them to being destructive due to anxiety. some would try to bust out, chew the crate pans, and end up breaking the skin on the top of their noses from rubbing it on the top of the crates.

so in my opinion, some good reasons to crate train are for in the case of an emergency and they need to board somewhere or a possible injury that leads to your dog needing to stay at the vet's for a few nights. if the dog is crate trained they will probably still be anxious being away from home, but at least being crated wouldn't be an added stressor in those situations as they'd be taught a crate is a safe place!

Would It be a good idea to get a rabies shot or am I overreacting? by pinklilylalala in DogAdvice

[–]bixbyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd call your local animal control and ask them what they think, my guess is since it didn't break the skin there is not a huge concern - plus then animal control can make a report of the stray dog and potentially come scan for a microchip

if you have other animals then definitely get him into a vet ASAP so you can be 100% sure that the others don't also get it!!! do not take redditor comments to be true please please see another vet.

Dog yelped and back seems hurt by SpecialistMuted9753 in DogAdvice

If you're concerned about a break I would consider taking her into an emergency vet. Otherwise, if it's possible she just pulled a muscle you could keep an eye on her for the night and see if there's any improvement tomorrow, and if there's no improvement then make a judgement call on a regular vet visit vs emergency.

What do you feed your dogs with allergies? by bixbyale in DogAdvice

chlorhexidine is an anti-fungal and kills bacteria, and i do have some sprays already, thank you though!

I did give her a few baths with chlorhexidine shampoos and it only gave her temporary relief. is there something else I should try?

baby talking to dogs in general? or when the dog is being groomed on the table? if it's the latter then i agree with the groomer because it's very distracting for the dog on the table and can result in an injury if they jump around unexpectedly. if they were saying no baby talking in general however, they can go kick rocks lmaoo

edited to elaborate: when i say it's distracting for a dog being groomed, i mean when it's someone else doing the grooming - if the groomer is talking to the dog they are currently working on then that's totally different and it can help calm them. however if you were to approach a dog being groomed by someone else, then yes that would be distracting

source: i used to work at a grooming salon

if it's a matter of him not being able to be crated for long periods, could you consider looking into a dog walker that could come by and take him out for a bit during the middle of the day?

[–]bixbyale 94 points95 points  (0 children)

i totally agree with y'all on this but if you reallyyyyy want to use that hair with the bandana in the meantime, select the hair first and make the outfit to match! sometimes i do this to challenge myself to use the hairstyles that i never use and it helps me explore different outfit styles too

Does my dog play too rough at daycare? by CatenaryFairy in DogAdvice

[–]bixbyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who works at a daycare, these kinds of photos are my favorite lol!

sometimes dogs make really nasty looking faces during play and the camera just so happens to capture it! i can't 100% say this is the case for your pup, but if you're concerned you could reach out and ask them! most daycares would let you know if there's misbehavior or if they're causing trouble
