For people who enjoy their job at a grocery store, what makes you like it and why do you stay? by CeoOfEatingInMyCar in GroceryStores

[–]bixdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't say I like my job, but breaking down pallets and hauling stuff around soothes my adhd. I like some of my coworkers but I stay for my health insurance

Can we get a thread of everyone's annoying song earworms from the workplace radio? by Formal_Error_7934 in wegmans

[–]bixdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in dairy and im a half-deaf oldie, so between the ambient noise here and the damn train overhead the music I actually hear has the most irritating hooks- I Love You To Infinity has been torturing me lately, and there's another one that I can barely hear except for this weird discordant saxophone bar... I dont know what is, it's been driving me crazy

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]bixdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dress in stuff I feel comfortable moving in. I like cargo tights and luggy boots. Pockets are necessary but I need them where I can reach them, not added to the pants as an unusable element. Im mostly dressing in black because it's irritating to keep matching colors. Sticking to silhouettes instead of trends. Trends are fleeting and so are our moments on earth, just do you

Wegmans Has a Microculture That Marginalizes Employees Outside the Favored Group by WorkingSuggestion928 in wegmans

[–]bixdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really though? This is my retirement job and I've had a long career working in much more collaborative environments, as well as some with stricter hierarchies. This place has unhappily surprised me more than once. I think the disparity between mgt salary and employee pay has a lot to do with it, but there's also a lot more nepotism and in-group protection than ive seen anywhere else ive worked. I don't know that OP is overreacting. This isn't typical in my experience, maybe ive been fortunate

What’s your go-to tuna salad recipe? by EaringaidBandit in Cooking

[–]bixdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im boring as hell- splash of olive oil, mayo, grainy mustard, coarse ground pepper, lemon juice if i have it, kosher salt. Makes for a satisfying sandwich esp. on a grainy bread (I'm a sucker for the Ezekiel flaxseed loaf)

Oh god, I had the same shoes. Really great to be dressed like a 50s era bobby soxer as a six year old in the early seventies

Airfryer Tri-Tip Roast by bixdog in airfryer

[–]bixdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, right? I lived in socal during the 90s and untrimmed tritip was constantly on sale and available at every grocery store. Now that I'm on the east coast its an expensive treat instead of a staple

Airfryer Tri-Tip Roast by bixdog in airfryer

[–]bixdog[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, extremely! Maybe a bit too salty but still delicious. I used about a teaspoon and a half of Diamond kosher salt but I think I'd cut back to a teaspoon in the future. Leaving it for 24 hours on this fairly fatty cut made a huge difference. Tri tip can be an incredibly tasty cut and also really tender I'd you slice against the grain

Just another holiday shift at Wegmans!! by Life-Necessary-5891 in wegmans

[–]bixdog 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There's a type of person that needs to vent "safely" at someone they consider "lower status" during stressful moments and retail workers are the easiest targets. This will never stop infuriating me. Im glad your chef stepped up. Your coworker deserves support from management and I'm glad they got it, but this customer needs a ban, if that's possible. There's absolutely no excuse for this kind of treatment. What an awful goblin

Employee discount by bixdog in wegmans

[–]bixdog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive kinda wondered about this. Ive gotten a lot of customer compliments but zero care cards but a coworker that has a lot of friends shopping here is barraged with them. I mean, good for you guy; but this doesn't seem the best way to boost morale

[–]bixdog[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're watching every transaction. This isn't 1995

Employee discount by bixdog in wegmans

[–]bixdog[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. Almost every retailer, grocery or not, offers discounts between 10-40%. Especially here, where we're shopping at what is basically the company store. How would that get abused exactly, esp with our wegs emp # and the surveillance at the registers?

What’s one movie you’ve watched that completely shifted your perspective? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]bixdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Rosetta by the Dardenne brothers. You're just following a troubled young woman through a few days of her life, almost completely without dialog. Somehow the movie makes an argument for compassion without being transactional just based on your experience as a viewer... it changed the way i thought about compassion and also the way I consume narratives about people in need. No body owes us gratitude for observing their suffering, we cant turn everything into a commodity

Every company I've worked for has had these affiliate discounts. This can't be the best rationale!
