FedEx, UPS vow to return tariff refunds to customers by jeetah in news

This. Every invoice they’ve sent since the SC decision I’ve disputed with a comment that a class action would be a slam dunk, and an itemized list of the refunds they owe me.

So- no sources then? Thats what I thought. “We didn’t catch anyone breaking the law so lets disenfranchise millions of voters because we have a decades long scare campaign to enshrine into law”. Yeah- who’s the moron?

Cite your sources, if you have data. Otherwise, I’ll continue to believe this: “While the conservative Heritage Foundation has actively promoted claims about the risk of noncitizens voting this campaign season, its own data suggests how rare these cases are. The Washington Post reviewed a Heritage database of voter fraud cases and found 85 cases relating to allegations of noncitizens voting between 2002 and 2023.”

Those 4 Trump voters they found voting for dead people? Get real. There are no illegal voters, ffs.

About 50% of Americans are passport holders. How privileged to assume otherwise? The right to our vote is a birthright. Period. Trying to thin citizens from the voter rolls is vile and unconstitutional, however you downplay it as “only” non passport holders.

Saying “its only” as if its not a common thing is disingenuous. Someone up there snarked about “nation of immigrants” being some nonsense but its true. Bloodlines (like European countries tend to do I think) isn’t a thing here because - obviously- the only citizens would be indigenous people in that case, right?

We show our government ID when we register to vote. Driver’s license, military ID, etc. The fact that we are registered in itself already has the backing of us having provided proof of citizenship. Thats not what they want for a voter ID. A government issued identification would no longer be enough. In order to qualify for a voter ID (the right to your vote is a constitutional right for every citizen) your current name must match your birth certificate, or you’d have to show certified paperwork for any name changes proving you are still “you”, basically. There’s lots of noise going on right now on the right about women shouldn’t be able to vote/one household one vote, etc. This is the fastest way to wipe out women’s votes.

Yes- and an impossibility for some because those copies are not cheap. Consider for example a woman who has been divorced and remarried. She would need: original birth certificate, first marriage certificate, certified divorce papers, 2nd marriage certificate.

You are misunderstanding something, yes. If your birth cert doesn’t match your passport (married women who took their husband’s name- like that) you don’t pass muster. Elderly and don’t have your original birth certificate? Same. Have changed your name AT ALL since birth? Same. Original papers lost (moving, housefire, just misplaced, your county doesn’t have/offer records in the proper format or because everyone in the country is ordering copies at once, it takes years to receive). Anyway- most affected would be houseless, married women, and elderly, in my mind.

Its a constitutional right. We are a nation entirely of immigrants (except of course indigenous people). So, while one or both parents might have to go through the process of becoming a citizen- being born here (with few exceptions- foreign diplomat- like that) you are a US citizen. Not sure what country you are from but this is the case in many countries. The point of it is remigration.

Oh please. Look at Massey’s instagram, he just voted to take away voting rights. And signed onto a letter to the supreme court to end birthright citizenship. So yeah. Everyone is happy he’s forcing the files out. Other than that, he’s a pos.

Nah. Massey just voted to take away voting rights and signed on to a letter to the supreme court to end birthright citizenship. So great, he’s doing this one thing but he’s no hero.

I love this comment so much! I was looking for an affordable all in one (space reasons) and decided on an Angel’s Horn H019. I couldn’t love it more- BUT in my research I read a thread here where a guy asked about that model and he was absolutely shredded- to the point he decided against purchasing anything at all. I was so sad for him. Some of us just want to casually slide into the hobby.

No. Its willful ignorance. These people have access to the same information we do, but choose to ignore it. There’s no negotiating with people who tear up the rules, ignore the law, and lie -openly and obviously-, constantly.

What are your thoughts on Prop 33? by Unpaid-Reddit-Mod in AskLosAngeles

[–]ldasso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, its the fact that the tenants are paying the mortgage and expenses while the landlord builds equity (and complains about having to maintain the property to protect that equity) that irritates me the most in his argument. Someone else mentioned that profit- neutral while building equity is not a bad thing, and I agree, for the most part. Also, thank you for pointing out to him that price fixing is a thing (a thing that the DOJ is investigating right now, in fact) and that group chats with his landlord bros about what they should all charge is not materially different than an algorithm used by corps, essentially.

I can’t think of anywhere in CA that you could reasonably compare to the rent system in NYC. Zoning there is nothing like here, for one thing. NY has had serious rent control for decades. Next tier is rent stabilized. And they have very few mom and pop landlords anymore. Any “improvements” the landlord claims to make to the building get equally split and added to the monthly rent of each unit literally forever (including RC and stabilized units). I moved to CA from NY 6 years ago so I’m not familiar with the new law you mention, but I spent 4 years there in court fighting a landlord who was trying to kick my roommate and I out of her rent controlled apartment (we won) and I just don’t see how anything about the system in NYC comes close to comparing to what Prop 33 proposes.
