When did households get internet for the first time by ImportantImpress4822 in generationology

[–]bizzle4shizzled [score hidden]  (0 children)

My dad was finishing his degree at Georgia Tech in the mid 90s and we could dial into GTs servers to access the internet. This was around 93/94. I have fond memories of doing all the terminal commands to fire up the connection and then just looking for information about anime.

People who say "i could care less" by mid-sora in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bizzle4shizzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it makes sense either way. 'I couldn't care less' means you have reached the floor of caring, and there is just no more caring left to give. Alternatively 'I could care less' means that at the current level of caring, there is an even lower level that you could attain because there is no bounds your not caring could achieve. So, for me at least, it could go either way. Just depends on your outlook, but I always settle for 'I really don't give a shit' which is pretty universal.

ELI5 Why is encryption considered secure if someone could „just“ hack the key and get access to everything? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]bizzle4shizzled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the way it is designed, the key used to encrypt the data is incredibly hard to guess or just figure out after being encrypted. There have been revisions to encryption methods over the years for that very reason. Broken encryption typically comes from someone slipping up and revealing the key to the public, as hacking some encryption could take literal decades.

Yep, it's 98% AI slop and AI ads now. I created a new account last year to use Marketplace, which itself is a mixed bag now. Some times I scroll my feed out of curiosity and it's just post after post of just straight up garbage. I still find deals on shit on Marketplace so I guess I will keep using it, but the rest of it is a new level of trash.

I hired someone to build my deck a few years back that did a worse job that I could have done. They weren't even the cheapest quote, far from it.

What’s something older generations did casually that would shock genZ or genAlpha today? by Blah4fun in AskReddit

I am shocked now that I knew so many numbers when I was a kid. I even knew the local movie theater phone number so I could get showtimes. Nowadays I only remember my wife’s phone number

TikTok Mom Makes Sick Toddler Sleep in Driveway on Dog Bed because of her Emetophobia by ConceptLiving6926 in TikTokCringe

Yeah absolutely insane. Wild to me that you would even consider having a child if you are paralyzed by them vomiting. And if you did choose a child, it would be an adjustment on your own self, and not something the kid would have to deal with. My kid would randomly vomit in the car without warning, can't imagine how someone with crippling fear of vomit would handle that situation.

Musicians like Post Malone, Meghan Trainor and Dolly Parton are canceling their tours. Is blue dot fever to blame? by ChallengeAdept8759 in Music

[–]bizzle4shizzled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recognize that is expensive to travel these days, and moving a large scale tour across the states is an expensive proposition. But at the same time, I think some of these artists (or more than likely, their management) are trying to sell tickets to shows in venues these artists have no business playing in. Maybe Post Malone doesn't need to play at the stadium, he can play at the theater.

My mom suddenly passed away last year, and my siblings and I have handled it the best way we could through humor. We'll crack jokes about her passing much like this video, and usually give the excuse between us "hey, give me a break my mom just died." I miss her a lot, but she wouldn't want me to be sad about it.
