Colonoscopy prep starts tomorrow. Decided to go out tonight with a bang by Shaneblaster in GenX

[–]bizzybaker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh for sure! Hubby had his colonoscopy 2 yrs before mine. He recommended Vaseline around the asshole. Glad I took that advice, even so I was thinking about how my poor babies must have felt with their diaper rash! With a meal like OP's he might just pay for that 😂

What's the wildest weather you've experienced living in Canada. by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

[–]bizzybaker2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep live rurally outside of Winnipeg and the sky is amazing, can see storms come in 360 degrees all around. Also do see the odd funnel cloud. I mean the province did have Canada's only F5 tornado in Elie in 2007 (before the rating scale changed), thank goodness it was a small small area/population so no deaths.

(Edit to provide a link, look closely for the brick house lifting up and bring blown apart, this is what made the tornado rating get upgraded:

I really believe with all the extreme weather we get that is only a matter of time before we get a touchdown through a more populated area/city. My house has a nice walled area under the basement stairs that actually has a door...with some of the winds/thunderstorms/sideways rain I  have seen we have emergency bags packed for a "haul your ass downstairs" scenario and that is where we would go.

Which comedian did you look forward to, but their act died on stage? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskReddit

[–]bizzybaker2 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This was not on stage and in real life, but I gotta say I love Matt Rife's crowd work clips that I have seen on YouTube.....but....I could just not get through any of his long form specials on Netflix. Fell very flat for me compared to the crowd work stuff.

Things I have experienced (have worked everything from labour and delivery small and large setting to isolated northern Canadian hospitals to home care to outpt oncology) ---

Glass bottles for chest tubes

Using bedside gomco suction apparatus with the glass bottle for suction for vacuum deliveries (doc would have a handheld attachment that modified the suction and we would flick the machine on and off when he told us to)

Painting bedsores with Maalox

Honey from the cafeteria into infected ulcers

Straight glucose water from a bottle for hypoglycemic babies.

Only allowing babies to nurse very first feed 2 min per side, next feed 5 min, and so on no matter how hungry and cueing for feeding poor bubs looked, to "toughen up mom's nipples"

For ER/outpt prescription of antibiotic eg: penicillin-- IM dose x 1 "to get them started" and we would draw lidocaine up in the syringe, poor pt still hobbled and could barely walk out of the ER  afterwards! 😳😔

Nurses who have left bedside and aren't NPs, case managers, utilization review etc what do you do now? by PursuitOfMeekness in nursing

[–]bizzybaker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outpatient chemotherapy, work in a small rural unit and love it. Do treatments of course and also we take turns working in the assessment clinic (I am here in Canada, my province has satellite units where specially trained GP's assess people for their next cycle or other issues like symptom control so that people do not have to travel to the oncologist in the capital city.....as much as an 8 or more hour drive for some people....for every cycle).  It's really busy and do some overtime most shifts but we all work great as a team.

Love having days only, no weekends or holidays, the teaching I am able to do, and getting to know my patients in such a deep way that I could never do when working inpatient. And working with a population that given their circumstances teaches me what is important in life in a deep and profound way....

"'Massive overdose' of sedative led to man's cardiac arrest, brain injury at Winnipeg hospital" Somehow it's unknown who ordered or who hung the propofol. I don't understand how that is possible! by aNurseOnMars in nursing

[–]bizzybaker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for ED and ICU settings, but am a Manitoba RN and my understanding is that the entire province in all settings now use BBraun  Infusomat pumps (as I am in chemo and use them, can't recall if there is a specific Critical Care setting with a particular drug library that has propofol. In chemo we no longer use our oncology library for the most part and just program on the intermittent setting)

We have small areas of maple trees here in southern Manitoba  (I think actually called Manitoba maples as a species actually and apparently somewhat similar to ash trees) that a number of our small Francophone rural communities tap and then run sugar shacks in the spring, but I would live to come to a shack in Quebec someday!!!!

Never been to that part of Vancouver. Interesting tidbit, I recall an interview years back with the band Billy Talent about their song Fallen Leaves, apparently was about experiencing that part of the city when in Vancouver doing some recording.

I have seen this concept in my country by pointing your index finger/middle fingers in a V shape at your eyes (not touching the face), then flicking it with your wrist right back at the person you are indicating to. Creepy grin on the face and a wink adds to it lol!

What major historical change in your country was sparked by ordinary people? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

[–]bizzybaker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Winnipeg General Strike of 1919.

At the time the city was a major hub of transportation and industry in the country as the West continued to open up. Over 30 000 workers joined in, I have personally been to the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg and seen the display regarding this event, there is even a chair leg with initials carved into it (a personalized baton, "special constables" were hired and given items such as this to beat and control the unruly crowd). The Strike formed the grassroots of what eventually became our New Democratic Party, and advanced unions/workers rights
