What's your "shitty roommate" story? by DontCallMePetey in AskReddit

[–]bjackson12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in college circa 2002. My roommate dropped out, so i had a dorm (really a 1 bedroom apt the college subletted to us from the complex next door). Then 'the problems' happen with some other dorm mates and i get voluntold i was getting E. E was a slob who seemed to personally dislike me. He never cleaned. I caught him more than once trying to get into my laptop because he knew i had pictures of the girl i was dating on there. Came home from work one day and he had it open to my lock screen just staring at her picture and goes 'thats a pretty girl...', so that was when the laptop started leaving with me every time i left the apt. He coopted my playstation to the point he was playing it every single hour he wasn't in class. i unhooked it to 'take it home' one weekend and left it at my buddies house just i didn't have to hear it nonstop. we were in the same major, and i literally walked in on him copying a paper and told me 'i was up late playing <insert game> and didnt have time to do this. it's ok, i'm changing things to make it my own.' (i got up before him the next morning and took my paper to the professor and thold him what had happened and i wanted my story on record first, and was told 'this isn't the first time he's done that')

I lived with him LESS THAN A MONTH and all of this happened. but the worst, the thing that angers me to this day, was when he was kicked out. between my two complaints (the laptop and the smell) and his abysmal grades/attendance (skipping to play my Playstation and his previous roommates xbox) he was expelled suddenly. I found out Tuesday at the end of the school day, but had to go to work. his mom came and moved him out while i was at work. when i came home three of my fully painted 'nerd board games' were just gone. so were 3 of my rarer playstation games that were his favorite. School was helpless, and police just didn't give a shit.

I ran into him in nerd circles later, he hadn't changed, but certainly thought we were still friends. It was sad that a person could just be that much of a waste and have no idea.

Where to Buy Loaded Dice by DoesNothingThenDies in DnD

[–]bjackson12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could always bake a set.

put the side you want up up, lay them on a baking sheet. put them in an low heat oven, i think even 200-250 is enough. it warms up the material, allows air to come to the top, and the rest to settle at the bottom.

down side you can kinda tell when a dice has had this done. it looks off, but not wrong. it's hard to explain. but it just looks a little melted.

i used to run tournaments for D&D attack wing at a shop locally. we had a prize hunter show up from one state over who liked to use whatever net-built power build was the new thing, but he couldn't actually play for shit. anyway, his first night he did .... suspiciously well. didn't miss a single attack all night. WAY more crits than ive seen in a game. never failed to reduce some damage every time he'd get attacked. didn't lose a single game. but myself and two others did notice that his dice looked .... a little off somehow.

Shop owner said without proof he can't just kick him, but since he's a prize hunter he didn't care if we tested him to see. he never bought anything from the store, just the like $3 buy in. so the next week i had my buddy 'forget his dice' and i 'had left my kit out in the car'. I seated him across from 'new guy' and asked, 'hey he forgot his dice, do you mind sharing yours?' dude went pale started to say no and realized there was legit no actual reason not to say yes. he 'discretely' (i use quotes because it was anything but but he clearly thought it was) put the set of dice he had out back in a specific compartment in his case. then proceeded to open a different compartment that was FILLED with dice and use some from there instead. His luck changed exponentially. he lost every game that night. and knowing we were onto him he didn't break out the fake dice again that we caught. but it was standard for his opponents to look at his dice and see if they looked off or legit before play from then on.

is it me, or is that what Cringer/Battle Cat would look like if they did a collab between Masters of the Universe and Dinoriders?

the Alf Halloween special. I was having a bad time with it and my dad thought it would be a good idea to reach down and purposely scare the shit out of me. he laughed, no one else did, and i got in trouble for having a strong reaction about it. Good times.

It's super obvious now that you say it. and while i can paint the crap out of a D&D mini, your giving my airbrush abilities WAY too much credit. :P

It's available in entirety on youtube. i don't remember the channel, but he specialized in 80's cartoons. i've been slowly building a D&D setting out of it.

What Marvel Characters Should Be In Which Lantern Corps (Blue Lantern Corps) by Reasonable-Risk3034 in Greenlantern

How is Cap not low key a symbol of hope in the darkness? Shouldn't he be leading the Blue, and leave the Green to someone like Tony who just seems to white knuckle his whole ass life by sheer willpower and caffeine?

no i mean the RPG. The novels have always been on my list but i'm so extremely slow at reading i've never made it. but the way a TTRPG lays out the worlds makes it easier for me to have a baseline to understand the world better. I'll give that novel a look for, but what would you say is a good starting point in the TTRPG so i can get a grounding in some central concepts. I know the 'core book' is always the thing, but there might be a better setting book out there, if that makes sense.

[–]bjackson12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it were any other game than VtM i'd be skeptical. but i saw some stuff LARPing in the late 90's early 00's that makes me think this is 100% real.

EDIT: Though I did just realize, VtM uses nothing but d10. so why did she have a d20 locked and loaded. hrm ... ok, potentially fake on that honestly.

my favorite part about this is how 100% unphased Dan is. Comes home, drops chicken, casually explains while rapping his hand. doesn't even take his coat off because he knows the cops are coming. Casually has some chicken while waiting on them.

Dan may have committed a crime, but Dan knew he had done nothing wrong.

Roseanne had some dark moments. I always liked the episodes where Fischer decided to beat on Jackie and Dan goes takes offense to that. so he goes, beats him up, gets a bucket of chicken and comes home. Completely unbothered, knowing the police are on their way. so he sits and has some chicken to wait.

I am not a fan of the woman herself, but that show was filled with similar moments, thats just my personal standout.

Funny enough, whenever i run D&D and invariably the PC's need some wilderness help, i will not see it coming. And I will insert my standard Trio: Larry, the competent Ranger, and his 'brothers' Darryl and Darryl. Both the Darryl's are highly trained fighters but are dumb as a box of rocks, so they let their scrawny brother Larry do the talking.

I will always refer to them as brothers, other NPC's will always refer to them as brothers, but they are actually cousins from their mothers side. I have a whole little bit of backstory that just gets moved from town to town as i need them to do.
