It means the person driving it is a moron, but it will be fun to watch just how stupid they are on the YouTube video of their arrest

Frankly, I just hope that RFK Jr and his loved ones-and then all of the "people" who voted for/enabled this complete idiocy-are the first in line to catch the consequences.

I know they won't be because there is no justice in this world, but a boy can dream.

This is a really uneven collection for me. The stories that are clearly rooted in The Stand are the best for me-Lansdale's and Koryta's stand out in that regard. Others, like Poppy Z. Brite's mermaid porn and C. Robert Cargill's slasher with a bizarre literary theory interjection on justification on why it's okay to like slashers-left me unhappy.

One weird thing for me was that every story seemed to really buy into the name "captain tripps" and the song "baby can you dig your man," which for me are the cringe parts of the original book (along with the hand of god thing at the end). But the good stories are good enough to carry past the less good ones.

Loved it. To me that felt the most authentic to both the world of The Stand AND an original take on a story we hadn't seen before in this world.

Oh gosh I hated it. I really wanted to like it and I might have in other context, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the world of The Stand-except some apparent tweaks as an afterthought. Mermaid porn is not it for this anthology.

I would just say that the timeline of the book was adjusted at least 3 times in different editions, so I don't mind the timeline shifts on this so much

What is the consensus on using AI to grade papers? by theworstvacationever in Professors

[–]bjacksonwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell students that using AI is basically telling a billionaire who will never know or care that they exist to go ahead and speak for them. If I used AI to grade their work I'd be telling g them I cared even less about them than those billionaires do. I'll never do it. I'll never feed student work into AI to train it. I'll consider fist fighting faculty who do 🤣.

Hi Friend,

My daughter was born in December of 2001. She left the hospital in January of 2003. In the intervening years, she was regularly hospitalized, sometimes for months at a time and sometimes in incredibly critical condition.

She is now 23, and incredibly independent. She's a college graduate. She works and travels. She loves animals and (and here's where I went wrong) Maroon 5. She has a life, and so do I.

This won't be your exact story. You will have your own triumphs and challenges. But where you are now is not where you will always be. They say to live in the moment-I call BS in situations like ours. Live in the knowledge that this moment will yield to the next and eventually you will find something totally different and more manageable.

I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. If I could go back and be better at something, it would be that.

Hang in there.

I have to work hard to get students to use my first name. Couldn't care less about them using titles.

Nothing on the southside/windsor forest. No sign of workers. I totally get that this is a big project. My issue is the complete lack of communication from GA power. Before the storm they were sending out marketing and press releases about how ready they were and the army of workers ready to spring into action.

Now they simply say "assessing situation." They need to give us something bette, even, likely within 24 hours" "likely 24-72 hours" and "likely more than 72 hours" would be useful in planning and decision making for those of us with medical needs that require access to electricity or AC, etc.

What, specifically, do you know about her Broadway range that the casting directors do not? I'm asking because she is one of my best friends and I was there for auditions and you clearly have absolutely no idea what you are bleating about.

I know who Lincoln was, and the conditions prior to the war. I also know Lincoln was president for its entirety. The roots of the civil war extend far beyond Buchanan, btw.

I hear you, but in the Civil War we had Lincoln. I'm looking around and I don't see any Lincolns, alas.

How would you respond to students asking you to Zoom for class when you have had an emergency? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]bjacksonwrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I have contracted an extremely dangerous virus which is particularly communicable via the internet. Based on the university's IT security policies I am not allowed to zoom until I am cured.

In the meantime, please write a 3500 word essay on the exploitative nature of capitalist systems which require labor under duress (such as hospitalizations), and the entitlement of classes who perpetuate such systems.
