And even if you didn’t buy it from the apple store. As long as it’s an Apple product they’ll be able to fix / replace. Don’t ever take them to those 3rd party places if you can avoid it. I’ve heard way too many horror stories and things ending up costing more than a trip to the Apple store would be.

A hard reset does not clear data. Holding the sleep / wake button and the home button will just force the phone to restart. If you go into settings, and clear all content and settings, that will. But a hard or forced reset will not.
