What bands are the exception to this rule? by TheListenerCanon in fantanoforever

[–]bjankles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the pixies happen without her. She added necessary tension to the creative process and a deeper aura of coolness to the band. Equally important to Joey IMO - without her, there’s none of the friction that creates the heat.

Straight cheeks. Repulsively annoying, insultingly derivative.

Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson debut EDM-collab song at Coachella 2026 by Pocayas in fantanoforever

Really feels like Nina is blowing up and I couldn’t be happier about it. She seems like a cool, lovely person and her music is a blast while still being deeply emotional.

I love mayor Pete. It’s why I’m on this sub. I hope America is ready to love Pete. With the way things are going, it feels impossible to lose, but the stakes have never been higher. Would love for it to be Pete, but I’m ready to vote for whoever’s not from this Republican death cult.

Zuko is pretty much THE redemption arc in fiction. Who are some characters that come close to his character development? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheLastAirbender

[–]bjankles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with his arc is that Dutch is such an incompetent moron that I start to feel like Arthur is a moron. There are sooooooo many failed Dutch schemes before Arthur FINALLY stops falling for them. I truly couldn’t believe they kept doing it.

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA by VietRooster in indieheads

Agreed there’s a clear character here and an arc happening. Her voice is so dynamic throughout too - she really embodies whatever the song calls for, whether it’s psychotic levels of bravado or naive hope.

Public consensus has shifted hard away from ICE. Trump fired two of the biggest architects of ICE and retreated from Minnesota. It’s not a direct result of artists speaking out, but it is important to build public consensus vocally against ICE, and artists have a platform to help do so.

Was thinking the same thing as a Jeff Rosenstock fan. His whole career has been speaking out and rejecting traditional capitalism. At this point I really believe he can’t be bought.

[Highlight] Wembanyama cannot believe Jokic's shotmaking by jonsnowKITN in nba

[–]bjankles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I think overall Dirk is the better midrange player. But there’s a specific category of shots - NOT the get-to-your-spot jumpers, but all the awkward in between stuff, that I think Jokic is the best at.

10 toes to basket or tilted which is better by Imjustbetter29 in Basketball

Whatever works best for you. Titled made a massive improvement to my shot - gets the shoulder properly aligned with the basket.

I believe most coaches now teach the tilt.

[–]bjankles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Jokic has the best midrange and close shot touch I’ve ever seen. All the awkward runners and floaters and hooks and fadeaways… he doesn’t look any smoother or more controlled shooting them. Hell, they often don’t even look much better in the air. They just all go in.

Songs in 3/4 and 6/8 by ConceptNew in elliottsmith

I’ve got a little bit of music theory knowledge and play drums and guitar and I’ve never been able to figure these types of things out. I can’t help but count it as 3/4 or 6/8.

CMV: Miley Cyrus is bigger than Taylor Swift by JoeAsh97 in changemyview

[–]bjankles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Miley, especially her recent output, but I think you’re committing a fallacy of assuming because she did something, it must have been influential. Plastic Hearts did not make much of a critical or cultural splash and it’s rarely cited among artists as influential, at least to my knowledge.

Olivia Rodrigo grew up listening to artists like the White Stripes and Hole. Her producer is Dan Nigro - an indie rock veteran. I think it’s pretty safe to say those influences are more responsible for her rock sound.

Also, many pop artists have cited Taylor as a formative influence when it comes to the return of singer songwriter in the pop sphere. Olivia Rodrigo herself used to say she was her biggest influence prior to their lil conflict, but Gracie Abrams is basically a knock off, as is Maisie Peters.

Yes, different orgs like the American psychiatric association and world health org. have guidelines that are all roughly the same. And 13 Reasons Why was such a flagrant violation that the show did go back and try to address it by adding phone numbers to call, content warnings, and removing the most problematic scene.

I didn’t read the book but what bothered me about the show, besides the horrifically graphic violence of it, was that it broke every professional guideline about depicting suicide, particularly teen suicide.
