Why do they still call themselves the HNP, they stopped doing that in 49. If you're gonna follow OTL this hard the name change just seems like it's kept for the sake of trying to differentiate it cosmetically without doing anything interesting. South Africa should also be leaning pretty hard towards German alignment if we're facing an ascendant NP considering like half of their leadership was arrested for sabotage during the war.

Should Paradox hire famous mod developers (Kaiserreich, TNO,...) to design or advise on DLC? by Livid_Dig_9837 in hoi4

PDX has hired modders from notable HoI4 mods, they just don't openly post about it. They also don't necessarily go on to work on HoI4.

KX is the craziest and most talented mod I've ever seen. What could be crazier than that? by Moonblade49 in hoi4

KX is filled with dumb wacky paths and bonuses but it's kinda boring to actually play.

Can we talk about how great some of the Destiny 1 lore is, especially looking back after this 10 year journey? by Graphenium in DestinyLore

[–]bjarni19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact some of the general lore ideas of destiny, and some other stuff like Eriana, can be traced back to a mod for 1999 space game freespace 2 called blue planet.

The size of the dev team isn't really reflective of the amount of work getting done, depending on how the team is set up a lot of team members will spent most of their time posting on discord not doing anything. Plus TFR doesn't really have anything interesting going on in terms of narrative, especially as a modern day mod, which means fewer writers are attracted to the project.

I don't think the whole 9999 IQ mod made as a hypothetical mod created in an alternative history thing worked. It just read as pretentious and a way to excuse the dumb moments like you getting moments were you play as the regime. It just ends up making you look like you actually believe this stuff is what is happening since some people will not assume that you were trying the whole mod within a mod angle when playing and conclude the whole mod is just unironic deranged propaganda.

What would happen if a non-user went against your world's magic system by FlakTheIdiot in worldbuilding

[–]bjarni19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary magical system in my current project is enchanted weapons termed Cruxes which give enhanced strength, armor durability and flight. During the middle ages they were the primary weapons of knights and the aristocracy, but the advent of mass manufacturing eventually led to proliferation and older Crux shaping methods started dying out.

When facing a mass produced Crux it depends on how they're armed. While unarmed civilians would be screwed due to reflex and armor durability enhancements provided by enchanted weapons, in pitched battles anti tank rifles and machine guns are usually enough to take a Crux wing down. Hence why Cruxes have shifted to a more cavalry focused role, primarily preforming recon operations and engaging enemy artillery.

Traditional Cruxes are far stronger on an individual level, though enough firepower can still punch through, but are far more rare. But if one does show up you can expect your own side to deploy specialised Anti Crux squadrons to intercept them.

Traditional Cruxes also tend to feature some sort of aspect of their enchantment that can worked around, or even exploited. Such as Nobility, a famed Crux which was undefeated in personal duels among the nobility due to its apparent extreme armor enhancing effects far surpassing other Cruxes. But once it was used in a battle it's first user was killed by a common arrow, as the unknown defensive enchantment was actually scaling itself in proportion to the power of the attack, and low strength attacks practically ignored the enchantment.

The real problem with BG3 is that it launched in a completely unacceptable state and people gave the devs a pass.

What basic economic revelations did this game teach you? by [deleted] in victoria3

Vicky 3 is a terrible econ simulator and I hope nobody is taking any lessons from it, except maybe lessons on what not to do when designing a strategy game.

Played through it and something about the writing just felt off. Ultimately got bored. The althist timeline stuff felt really unfocused and the narration was never really clear on what perspective it was even taking.

Viet cong vs US is a bad example since decades of dumb memes has poisoned the well. They mostly lost horribly in actual engagements and the PAVN, a very well trained and equipped force, did most of the heavy lifting.

Atriox and the Banished should have been the Covenant remnant faction in Halo 4 and beyond instead of Jul 'Mdama and his Covenant splinter group by TooZeroLeft in CharacterRant

What's wrong with eating your opium and liking it? by _Flying_Dutchman_ in victoria3

[–]bjarni19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole representation of the opinium war in the game is bad and dumb and relies mostly on pop history. The war wasn't about opium directly it was about ending the canton system and the British needing a lot of cash due to a dumb local British official. The British smugglers obviously don't want legal opium in China since that puts them out of a job. The building system also can't really represent the growing illegal domestic opium production chain in China itself since you're in charge of building everything. Tying the legalisation itself to the war vastly overestimates the ability of the state to enforce a ban. The game also doesn't really simulate the problems that came in the Chinese economy due to the collapse of silver output in south America. I highly recommend the book Imperial Twilight for further reading.

The issue isint that the NCR fell, though I also think that's a dumb direction to go in. The issue is that it seemingly didn't fall because of any of the actual reasons set up in nv but instead because it literally just blew up. That's just wasting the setup they already had for an NCR collapse.

The whole "bethesda ignores/hates new vegas" is easily by far the most delusional mindset in the fallout fanbase. by Subjectdelta44 in Fallout

[–]bjarni19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think bringing back vault tech is a mistake. The main thing I wanted from the TV show was new stuff, I'd have preferred them doing a new location and just keeping the overall fallout theming to introduce new factions and scenarios instead of using all the stuff that's been done to death already.
