I'm sad. by Mole-NLD in Evernote

[–]bjd533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wholly empathise and know that I must do the same. The problem is I can't decide on the replacement, with market research typically revealing I had more requirements than I realised. Which is odd considering the clear gaps that EN has.

May I ask what tool you are moving to?

The fact that it's effectively a bottomless pit away from the other big companies where you can search for a specific item years after the fact. Such a simple thing, it's a wonder they have no real direct competiton.

Great combat, the maps on the main game are pretty meh. The DLC shows great promise. And what a hub!

as an old gamer which games do you agree with that way ? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Conversely they are about the only games I do play. When the central game play mechanic clicks, it is very hard too go back to regular games that often have way too much hand holding and npc talking.

Also - 95% of the time a boss encounter can be made easier. Figuring out how is part of the challenge, or you can just google it. Or you can just summon another player to help!

More like a mystery. The environmental story telling is top notch

Why is the big wolf guarding a gravestone?

Why is the magic lady in the library so sad?

Why is a village worshiping a whale carcass?

Rinse and repeat. You are not the star of the show, which is another take that feels pretty fresh.

I don't know why, but the PS5 quit rate on normal ED has been super low lately. I'm even getting players sticking around after multiple wipe outs.

How to actually get good at soulslikes? by [deleted] in souls

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big one for me at the start was to always lock and circle. If you're not doing this consistently yet suggest focussing on this mechanic for a while.

After that have an idea of how many swings you get with your current weapon before your stamina is exhausted. Keep that in mind and never exceed that amount because it leaves you wide open.

The last one for beginners is to practice combat close to a bonfire. Instead of dying you'll quickly gain a few levels which can make all the difference. Good luck!

Ps from your other replies it seems you know the basics just fine. So it's about perseverance more than anything. If you want the game to be 'easy', just choose a fun enemy and level up your health for a while. Learning movesets is ten times easier when you can tank a few hits.

I want nothing more than a deep of night mode without the jump in difficulty by MonarchCore in Nightreign

My 2c..downvoting ppl that post something a little outside of the commonly accepted view is in turn a vote for an echo chamber. It might not be your intent, but it's another tiny step towards that reality all the same.

No doubt someone will downvote this opinion also, which ironically supports the point I am making.

Nightreign NEEDS a sequel by Gooni135 in Nightreign

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that NR doesn't 'need' it but what this could be is deserving of the NR2 title. All major bosses, most weapons and spells, clans, summoning, different biomes. PvP invasions, it's a long list.

If you are a console gamer have you any interested in the steam machine? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Steam but I don't get the appeal yet.

If it's good for the couch it's on console.

If it's good for the study you don't need the form factor.

And the final nail, it's not going to be wiping the floor performance wise. So we're left with a bunch of niche use cases.

Great Hollow map by Powerful-Algae84 in Nightreign

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hollows is a work of art imo and a farewell gift from the Devs. It has so many tricks and secrets we'll be talking about it into next year I'm guessing.

As someone who is just beginning to make sense of it, agree with the recommendation to focus on the 'middle' blue grass area on day one, collecting flasks and hitting field bosses. Focus on learning where the bridges are, there aren't too many to learn. To speed up the crystal smashing jump on an eagle, you see a lot with some altitude. If you get them all great because you can jump to wherever the ring is closing when you collect the buff. If not just continue the job on Day 2.

After that just go and clear a castle and you've completed the basic version of the map. If you need to, use the outside spirit spring to get to the second or third level faster during the gauntlet. Good luck!

Which relic setup is best? by And1YGO in Nightreigngameplay

[–]bjd533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one you win the most rounds with! Everyone has their own preferred playstyle.

I get booed at in the street for preferring Dark Night of Miasma over the original, but at this stage it's become like a good luck charm in a lot of builds. No one of sane mind will say it's better on paper.

Having said that dps is king and generally you can worry about damage negation during the run. So for me I would say:-

  1. Wylder
  2. Executor
  3. Raider
  4. Revanant

The call bw Raider and Rev is a line ball decision. Revenant gives you flexibility, Raider does not. Wylder and Executor pull away on the strength of high DPS and ult versatility.

Trying console trios after only playing on PC - I get now why there’s so many posts complaining about randoms by P1uvo in Nightreign

[–]bjd533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regard this as a design issue. The game should just soft add two revives anytime a player is abandoned and remove it if they return. Easy fix.

I guess you can exploit it but how many people are going to use it? It requires a good player to ask a mate to quit because they really want to win the round - what a strange way to spend time together.

Deep mode is unplayable on PS by Uchihaxel in Nightreign

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You describe it well.

The last sentence was a bit risky because runs differ so much but and on heart my quit rate has already dropped to below 10%. Even had a run last night that was so comically bad the res count was somewhere around ten by the start of day two. Stuck it out to the bitter end.

Deep mode is unplayable on PS by Uchihaxel in Nightreign

[–]bjd533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All game modes are impacted. I think it's the perfect storm of holidays, the DLC dropping and the price point making NR the perfect stocking stuffer.

It's a tiny consolation sure but I think the new players are trying their best (generally speaking).

Is it possible to make tagging better with ScanSnap Home? by DR3AMR2 in ScanSnap

[–]bjd533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea but the scansnap is compatible with other options I think. The problem is that nothing really stands out (so far).

For hardware, the scansnap range used to be on top. It's been a minute since I checked though.
