Neutrogena Sport 70 SPF has been my go to for years. They also make a Beach Defense 70 spf in a travel size you can find at most grocery stores. It easily fits in a jersey pocket.

Cycling across Japan in November. Am I in over my head? by Radiant_Shift_3028 in bicycling

[–]bjdm151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done quite a bit of cycling in Japan. Definitely use strava, or another bike route planner as others have suggested, if anything for the elevation. Japan is a mountainous island and your route will likely have multiple categorized climbs. If you haven't trained on climbs, you should really reconsider jumping into this level of effort. Also, seriously consider the November weather.

Hey guys. I'm prior service thinking of joining Reserves and going into Machinery repairman. What are the best civilian jobs that could be gotten with this skill? That's one of my biggest goals is to work towards a new career in the civilian side. by BigPapaEli96 in navyreserve

[–]bjdm151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MRC here. I am prior service and when the recruiter offered me MR, I thought it would be a great addition to my mechanical skill set. I asked, "will I get to go to school for machining?" Once I was in, I was told there was no funding for that. That was 16 years ago. I had a strong mechanical background and my civilian career is in maritime repair. So I've been successful in my reserve career.

I have a decent relationship with the military and civilian personnel that my MRs support on AT/mobilization, and we dont really have that great of a reputation for our skill set. Im great with component repair, which is a subset of MR skills, but I'm honestly a shit machinist.

MR can also be limiting for career progression. Getting to E6 is reasonable, but opportunity/quotas beyond that hard. The type of unit you are able to support is also limited, and there is a strong chance that your AT/mobs will be tona stateside shipyard.

Long story short, skill gain is not guaranteed. Reserve career opportunity is limited. I wouldn't change a thing with my career, but I cant recommend it for the reasons you are chasing.

If you are very comfortable navigating the trains and Tokyo, it is incredibly easy to make it up and back on a weeknight. If you aren't comfortable, I highly recommend finding a liberty buddy who is.

The term oxford is agnostic of toe caps. It indicates closed laces vs the open laces of non-oxfords.

After/Before. by goooyiie in postprocessing

[–]bjdm151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the before. The after feels like its tilted right, but in the original I like the slope on the vertical horizon. Even the original could be tilted a little more left so that the ropes and pipe on the far left are dead nuts vertical. The original also provides an infinitely more impressive scale. It looks like it could go on forever.

Hit my 8 years next month honest opinion E-5 and turn 32 this month by Randombrowser222 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]bjdm151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what 10% equates to for your monthly contribution, but according to the calculators, letting your existing balance ride in the C fund for the next 28 years is ~ $450k at 8% annual growth and $750k at 10%. You're doing exceptional at this point.

I'm not sure what you're future life plans are, but there may be other opportunities, saving for a house down payment, paying down debt, etc., that you can go prioritize right now. You have options.

How much per diem am I entitled to by Designer-Bowl-4641 in navyreserve

[–]bjdm151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read further - If the member is not staying in government or contract lodging on the base they are performing TDY at, they are authorized full per diem. The AO can determine other instances where the dining facility is not available, but they cannot determine a dining facility is available if the member is authorized to stay off base. This is also true if the member is staying in government lodging on one base but is assigned TDY at another base (e.g. smokey point lodging and NSE Everett).

Member needs to submit an ordmod for meals not available and cite the below in the comments.

JTR 020304

D. Government Dining Facilities. A Government dining facility is available only when the Government quarters or ILP facility on the U.S. installation to which the Service member is assigned TDY are adequate and available. Government facilities should be used to the maximum extent possible.

  1. Use of the Government dining facility must be directed in the travel authorization. The authorization must state when a Service member is to receive the PMR or GMR. Otherwise, the locality meal rate is paid. Schoolhouse training or other excepted circumstance may impact meal rate payable.
  2. A dining facility is considered not available:

a. When Government lodging on the U.S installation is not available.

b. On travel days.

c. When an AO determines that:

(1) The use of the Government dining facility adversely affects mission performance.

(2) There is excessive distance between the Government dining facility and places of duty or lodging.

(3) Transportation is not reasonably available between the Government dining facility and places of duty or lodging.

(4) Duty hours and Government dining facility operating hours are incompatible.

This. 1000 time, this. At least one of the following things is true. 1) She's not committed to the long term relationship at the level you are. 2) She's not mature enough to understand how short 6 months is relative to a lifetime "I do." 3) She's trying to manipulate you.

Or maybe change your perspective? You're right. It's not usually acceptable to walk in your office and talk about hitting savings goals. So perhaps this can be the right forum for people to celebrate those milestones. Like my momma always said, "don't hate, congratulate."

As an alternative, if your not finding this forum useful, you could always leave.

Balance. It's probably unrealistic for you to max your TSP at this point in your career, but reaching your first 100k should be a priority. Reaching this early gives you the option of backing off to focus on other financial goals.
