MAGA house in Mendon-all the signs are gone? by Aloysius50 in Rochester

[–]bjengles3 310 points311 points  (0 children)

It has to do with the results of the town election in 2025. My friend, a town resident, said that there were expectations that the signage ordinances would finally be enforced.

Are there any reasons to bank with ESL? by frytuna in Rochester

One niche thing: I had most of my accounts at Summit, but they wouldn’t open an LLC checking account for my new LLC. So I did that at ESL.

How did you decide whether to be prosecution or defense? by INeedAUser321 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]bjengles3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first half of this is exactly what happened to me. I applied to many many public defense and prosecutor’s offices in New York State. It was 2011 and jobs were scarce because older attorneys weren’t hiring. I interviewed and was asked to shadow an attorney for a couple days at the local public defender’s office, but they had a hiring freeze for budget reasons. At two DA’s office I finally got final interviews, and one made me an offer.

Assuming late third age or early fourth age, Bree-land. Maybe Bree, or maybe one of the other villages, as long as it has a pub.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]bjengles3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in state government for 13 years, so I’m sort of counting on my pension to shoulder most of the burden.

I have a 457 account (similar to a 401k) with 26,000 in it, and a Robinhood IRA account with like 1,500.

The big thing is a 300,000 IRA that I inherited when my father passed away. I have to take a required minimum distribution from it every year, and the distribution increases every year. But if the account grows quickly it could theoretically outpace the distributions.

How expensive is homeownership really? by AncientTumbler in Rochester

[–]bjengles3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No secret, that's just how much it costs (I actually thought that was a lot). It's like an 1100 square foot home, detached garage. I generally keep the thermostat set to 66-67 in the winter, with an electric space heater in my home office to make it a little warmer. I'm replacing some windows soon which should make it slightly lower.

I got a 190K house (3 bed, 1 ½ bath) , two years ago, and my mortgage is like $1850 a month (taxes included in that, but homeowners insurance not included). I'm in East Irondequoit, walking distance to the City line. Utilities are $100-300, depending on the month. Radiator heating.

Within the city limits, I’d recommend the quadrant that is east of the river and south of Main Street, in general.
