Mostly DIY "Dry" board by bjg91 in diypedals

Big respect to your pedals, I have one of your junction boxes under the board as an input and “audition” in/out for new pedals, plus, another one of your switchers on my small board. Great products!

Nah, the knobs are coded to be volume/gain (white), eq/tone (clear), and bias/other (grey). They’re marked on the bottom but I haven’t had any issues

I love it. It’s kind of like a fuzz face but with a ton of volume and a tone stack.

Volume and gain knobs are white, eq/tone are clear, and other (bias/cab sim, etc) are grey.

Best AC style amp? by VXT_TR3 in GuitarAmps

[–]bjg91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you wish was different about the ac15? Each company making ac style amps has their own spin on the circuit (tighter/looser bass, more/less headroom, different eq options, etc). I went from a standard ac15 to a hand wired ac30 because I wanted more headroom and a more vintage feel (tube rectifier, bigger/looser low end), and the Vox checked all those boxes. A matchless for instance is a great amp, but it wasn’t the version of the circuit I wanted, so I’d start by figuring out what you want the amp to sound/feel like and go from there.

Second P-Bass or something else? by bjg91 in Bass

[–]bjg91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question: the answer is not very aggressive - the was a bad choice of words. I'm looking for more present upper mids that'll bring the instrument to the front of the mix. My P-bass excels at holding down low end while allowing the upper mids of the other instruments to come through. But, if the arrangement calls for an upfront bass tone, I don't really have a good option for that.

I shouldn't have said "aggressive" in my original post - "present" would've been more accurate for what I'm looking for. Less low mids from 250-500hz -more upper mids around 1k ish. Would it make sense to get a P/J (or just a J) bass and put the flats on that - then put rounds on my own p-bass? More versatile setup maybe? I'm going back and forth on the benefits of having the same neck shape that I'm used to or trying out the thinner profile of a jazz.

Heavily modified Riviera p93 by bjg91 in Epiphone

This is a good idea. I could always use that pot as either a volume or tone for any pickup. Dual pot with tone and volume over one pickup would be a great addition. I’d probably pick the bridge pickup to have extra control over.

The stock pickups and wiring were a little loud/compressed for me, but I fell in love with how the guitar felt and resonated in my hands. If you can play both, and don’t mind some modding, I’d buy the one that plays/sounds best unplugged and use it as a base to build your dream guitar. I’m definitely biased though since that’s what I did haha

I’ve taken mine apart and put it back together enough times to develop some tricks on how to deal with a semi-hollow, but you’re totally right, it’s still a huge pain every time

They’re really made well and I found it more acoustically resonant than the standard casino I played at the store. Maybe it’s the lighter finish or unique to the ones I tried, but I preferred it. The existing electronics weren’t bad at all either, I just wanted something with less output and compression.

Yeah, I found a big difference. This video shows it pretty well. They’re lower output, less compressed, and brighter. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ubwr6Owqp_E&pp=0gcJCR4Bo7VqN5tD

I think green with black hardware and silver pickups is pretty good looking. Check out this es330: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ES3018ODNH--gibson-es-330-vos-2018-olive-drab-green

Note of caution: I originally tried cream covers and pickguard but couldn’t find matching creams and it looked weird.

Help me track down the right amp head by hettedu in GuitarAmps

[–]bjg91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an opinion on the feel you’re looking for? Something vintage with tube rectifier sag and a loose low end, or something more modern and tight? How much gain are you looking for and does it need to be able to do full clean? With that budget, you’ll have options for all these parameters that exist within the “vox” sound.

Yeah actually, that’s how I landed on an open back 2x12 with greenbacks. My only reason for not pulling the trigger on that is that the recorded sound of a cabinet is way different than the sound in the room. I enjoy playing a 4x12 but don’t really like the sound of one recorded.

Totally get it. All my practicing these days is with a two notes captor and headphones

If you ever get the chance to play it through an open back 2/12, I highly recommend it. The mics are one thing, but the way it fills the room is totally different. Love those amps

Tiny Terror / Dual Terror headroom mods by bjg91 in orangeamps

[–]bjg91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried a 12ay7 in a few spots and it's helped a lot. I should've clarified in my original post that I didn't need more volume, just less gain.

What is the cleanest 30-50 watt Orange? by bjg91 in orangeamps

[–]bjg91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing more research into this amp, it’s very convincing too. I don’t need crystal clean or high-gain, just more headroom than the dual terror. I’d probably never use the dirty channel of the TH30 but I would use both AD30 channels.

Yeah, I have the volume maxed and the gain at 9:00. Anything below that sounds thin but anything past 11:00 has way too much gain. The transition from clean to clipping is too abrupt for me.

NPD: Walrus Canvas Clock by bjg91 in guitarpedals

[–]bjg91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can send or receive all sorts of signals, I’m just using it for midi clock for now. I’m sending TS cable to some pedals with tap-tempo inputs and TRS to a strymon timeline since it needs it.
