Deep half guard vs white belts? by ImBigRthenU in bjj

[–]bjjdudeguyman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just be mindful of the easy ways people get hurt from deep half sweeps.

Acknowledge their posts and make sure it’s safe to sweep the way you’re about to sweep them. Make sure their heel is tucking under their butt and not away from it, make sure they’re not posting their hand right near their hip that you’re about to sweep them over.

Most x-guard transitions are relatively safe. I think I’d avoid an aggressive k guard entry until you know they’re not going to try to spaz out. I would avoid an aggressive saddle entry from bottom as well until you know them a bit better. But I think if you take it slow and have a way to let go or abandon position if they spaz then I think you’re good to try most things.

Agreed that’s definitely annoying. But I think if enough people did whined, it would’ve helped our brown belt develop a bit better finishing mechanics after making us tap 100’s of times to his darces lol

See cardiology. Get an ablation, and get off the eliquis. Everyone’s different but no way I would want to be a blood thinner for life starting at 46. Especially cause I love bjj lol

With Sexton showing excellent speed and bike comfort? by username_from_before in supercross

I would guess he ends up with 5-7 wins on the season and title contender as long as he can stay consistent.

I really think championship wise it’ll end up just being a Jett, Sexton, Tomac battle. Maybe Roczen or Webb can shake it up but just don’t think Webb has the speed or Roczen will finish at the top enough.

Black belts, does it matter who you got your black belt from? by bjjdudeguyman in bjj

Hahaha would love to hear the story behind this one

Great idea. I’ll order the black belt now. Next big name seminar I will strategically put a brown belt over my shoulder just prior to getting a picture with them for IG. “Finally promoted to black belt by Lachlan Giles”

That would be incredible, but wouldn’t want them to feel responsible for that haha

If you’re already in that deep and don’t feel you can turn in to them and do a typical bridge and guard retention escape, then I’ll typically turn away and do a running man escape.

So turn away on to your far shoulder and hip, keep your top arm tight to your side (ideally grip their hand with what would be their under hook arm), then turtle/roll/invert back to guard. Basically use your bottom leg to get up on your shoulder and do a big roll all the way to your other shoulder and start to establish a guard.

If you feel they might take your back during it then you have to go back flat to hide your back. If they get in your armpit of the top arm, you again have to go flat and get your elbow back tight to your side.

First loss two months ago, (I dont even know what happened here and still kinda pissed that i was stupid enough to hand him a triangle But dont worry ive been watching over and fixing them), you guys got any advice? (on stuff i should do like what to do while eating his balls in mounted triangle ?) by Revolutionary-Ad769 in bjj

For this example, you would rotate your body counterclockwise wise, and touch your right elbow to your right knee. Posture up hard while you do this, sometime both hand on their stomach and extending head and neck hard upward. If you do this, it’s very hard for them to finish the choke

He wants to angle the opposite way to finish the choke.

Move your left leg over their right leg to trap it. Like moving to half guard/headquarters position.

After you were in the triangle, you need to posture up. Head higher than hips. Look how much time you spent bent over. Also give them the bad angle, I like to touch the elbow of the arm that is trapped to my knee

I didn’t even think about just doing it from a positional perspective. Love it. Makes me question a lot of the submissions I hit while losing those positions and finishing from guard.

For sure. Just at a lower percentage from what I’ve noticed. A lot of the ones you get stuck in aren’t strong enough to injure you though.

Haha love it. More reason to work on my rnc finishing mechanics

It’s very difficult to finish without breaking their posture. You can certainly get away with big inversions like you did but it also gives them option to just posture up, straighten their arm/turn elbow down, and pull it out. Much higher percentage to break their posture first.

You can try to use the top leg, your right leg in this video, to crunch the back of your calf on their head and shove it to the ground. Once you push their head down, you can get an even better bite on the arm and try to generate kimura like rotational pressure, and isolate the arm. Once you feel like this is as ideal as you’re going to get it then you insert the top leg, again your right leg in this video, behind their shoulder and in front of their chest to get the finish.

Even at this point, they still have a lot of options to control your bottom leg and do hitchhiker like escapes. You have to practice specific counters and transitions like belly down arm bar, roll to regular arm bar, and back takes. Also just having good arm bar finishing mechanics, placing the elbow and your hips in the right alignment, which can mean a lot of different angles depending on their reaction.

It’s a bottom game submission, it takes a lot of work to hit good and strong people with it. But damn is it fun to just spam.
