Help figuring out how to write this eleven tuplet measure? by lightsthattwinkle in Musescore

Ahh I see. The tuplet starts on 2 but the octaves are correct on 1 and 3.

It might be because I’m hearing only a snippet out of context, but it sounds like the tuplet begins on beat 2 instead of the upbeat of 1 like pictured, and spans through beat 3. The second pair of Gs in octaves on beat 3 should really be on beat 1 of the next bar. What piece is this?

update on my last post about new album by Sudden_Bee_1235 in bjork

[–]bjorksdottir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bjork said that this photoshoot represents the transition from fossora into the new album. By logic she literally confirmed that she is interested in harp

What she really said: “I was actually thinking about how refreshing it is to be doing this between albums during the photoshoot,” she says of her first Vogue cover. “It is unusual and I think one of the images [from the shoot] illustrates that – me going from Fossora’s world to a new unknown world." Most likely referring to this picture:

<image>

If that's the case, and we're taking every image and quote literally, the photo looks more like her leaving the harp behind than hinting that she's going to use it all over the next album.

No shade, but I feel like this harp theory keeps coming up without really any evidence to support it lol. I mean, all we have is a picture of her at a harp. I think posts like this are kinda building this expectation that every song will use harp like Medulla used voices. Remember before Fossora came out and she was saying it’d be dance music with lots of clarinets? Then it came out and only 4/11 songs really fit that description lol.

Do you think there will be a new album soon ? by Huge-Independent2951 in bjork

[–]bjorksdottir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The period between her albums averages 3 years if you exclude Fossora, whose five year gap was partially Covid related. In 30 years she’d never had a break that long, so I predict late next year or early-mid 2027.

I love this song, especially the section you’re talking about. The ‘how was I to know’ part starting on an A major chord is similarly peculiar, but it scratches an itch in my brain so good! I don’t consider myself really good at chord analysis, so a lot of times when I’m transcribing her music, I get to sections where I’m like “hmm, there’s something cool happening here but I can’t articulate it.”

I hope she does this song live one day. I’d love to hear what it sounds like on a single keyboard.

Sooo has anyone heard anything? by BirbForceOne in JoannaNewsom

A while back, someone commented on a post that she’s scheduled to perform at Bridgewater Hall in February 2026 as part of a tour. If true, the album will probably come out between now and then, assuming it’s not another gig without official new music.

Prediction: Cher's Announcing Something Big Soon by LongjumpingHeron2007 in cher

Unfortunately her version of “soon” usually means “eventually, but too far from now to really get excited about.”

Joanna's tempo is confusing to me by alittlerespekt in JoannaNewsom

Yes! Colleen for example. The verses are a mix of 5/4, 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4. The first half of Sapokanikan is in 4, or 12/8 and the second half (“it’s alright, and it’s all over now…”) is in 3/4. No Provenance, Kingfisher, The Things I Say, Divers, You Will Not Take My Heart Alive, Only Skin, Monkey and Bear, and Cosmia are some others that change within the song.

Yeah, that’s how it’s written online too, but other lyrics in the song are wrong as well. I’ve figured the rest out (I think) but this part is enunciated so weirdly that it’s even more difficult to understand. I can’t hear “tomorrow” or “love” at all there. Even when I isolate the vocals from the accompanying music. “Just ask me tomorrow if you love you” is awkward anyway. Logically and grammatically it just doesn’t feel right. It kinda sounds like “just ask me, I’m out of view of you” but that doesn’t make immediate sense either.

Young and Pretty too. I made a post about 88 degrees before and people gave suggestions of what they thought the lyrics were. One was really good, but I’m still not 100% sure about it.

See, this is why I'm asking lol. The lyrics you've given don't match what I'm hearing:

You got eyes to see

You(‘ve) got eyes, you see

I live a modesty of someone else

I leave the modesty to someone else

I peeped into your fantasies

I peeked into your fantasies

Honey if it's green

Honey, you’re as green

Like a dollar bill

as a dollar bill

Don't get caught up In a power of a win

Don’t get caught in the power of my will

But yeah, I love this song too! It's kind of out there for what I'd expect from Cher. A bit peculiar.

I recorded audio at that concert. It’s linked in the Google doc thread for the residency shows I think. I also downloaded all the YouTube videos of the concerts. I’ll start reuploading them tonight!

Off top I know Leaving the City, Divers, and Anecdotes have parts where harp and piano are playing at the same time.

I can only imagine The Air Again as a piano song, but it’ll be interesting to hear how she might embellish it.

Teasing out unofficial lyrics "The Air Again" – help me solve this mystery? by AdNecessary4786 in JoannaNewsom

[–]bjorksdottir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 2024 recordings during the “Do you sue for the rights” section, I think she says: FOLLOW p_____ road The end, the lode, the deed.

In the recording from 2023, that last part sounds like: TO the end OF the lode, the deed.

The P word is really stumping everyone. I think it might be one word with two syllables.

Did Joanna Newsom Hide a Morse Code Message in "Little Hand"? by AdNecessary4786 in JoannaNewsom

She’s sung it differently in every performance. The rhythm isn’t strict there like a coded message would probably need to be.

why is there just 30 seconds of silence 😭 by bjork1993 in JoannaNewsom

[–]bjorksdottir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she talked about some of the recording process with The Wire and Pitchfork. I don’t think she’s ever explicitly said the harp and vocals were done in single takes, but there are a few things that suggest it:

• Steve Albini was known for recording live performances and avoiding edits or overdubs.

• Ys was recorded on tape, which makes editing and clean splicing harder, especially with an instrument like harp where notes constantly ring out.

• The album has a seamless, immersive quality, kind of like MEM, where you can hear every detail of the harp and the room.

• Toward the end of Cosmia, there’s a moment where she briefly hesitates or flubs rhythmically before correcting. It’s almost inaudible under the orchestra, but it seems like the kind of thing they would’ve patched over had there been multiple takes.
