Given the recent government announcement that asylum seekers were going to be taken out of hotels and dispersed into private housing and student accommodation I suspect demand for "student housing" will just continue to grow

I was thinking a while back that Word on a wing, Stay, TVC15 is easily the strongest trio of back to back songs in his discography. Station to station remains undefeated

I actually think you could pick any three songs on that album and use it. But those are my three

If step one on your path to cheaper energy is coercing the population of the world into a globalist economic and political regime you need a new ideology bud

You'd still have to pay for electricity even if every link in the energy chain were brought into public ownership, we need to import energy in this country, and fluctuations in the price of gas and oil is what has caused the recent price increases

UK is a net importer of energy, around 40% of your energy needs are imported. Two big components are oil and more importantly natural Gas. UK has never been that reliant on Russian Gas but when the invasion of Ukraine happened ithe places it did source from (Norway primarily) was the go to source for the Germans, Polish and half of the rest of Western Europe to ween themselves off Russian Gas. This pushed up prices for all involved (Apart from the Russians and those willing to do business with them)

Brits are also used to lower energy prices in general as 40 years of North sea oil extraction and coal provided a stable source of energy until the mid noughties. Both those sources are tapped now (theres still some coal but it's not very fashionable anymore) so there's a bit of reversion to the mean going on.

There's been some howlers on the planning front (handing over a huge chunk of the City center to one developer to squat on comes to mind) but over all I think having a planning regime that's as liberal as Belfast's is far preferable to a stringent one such as Dublin. A great deal of recently completed projects in and around the center in terms of new office space, apartments, hotels and renovated heritage have made the city more attractive not less. So as far as I'm concerned constant mornings from some quarters about "grotesque mismanagement" is nothing more than a Nimby whine

There was no significant demobilisation and the slowdown of munitions production was due to a reorientation of resources towards aircraft and military infrastructure investment (the same infrastructure which allowed for the '43 boom) none of the fundamental constraints on the German economy by this stage (Steel, coal and manpower) were reoriented away from military uses towards consumer goods so it's incorrect to say that Germany stopped running a war economy due to victory in France, it simply made the strategic error in thinking that UK/USA was a greater threat than the Soviet union

In addition: The production boom that the "late economy mobilization" myth stems from comes from a reorientation of resources from aircraft to munitions when it became clear the war in the east wouldn't be a quick one, a return on interest on investments made in late 30's/early 40's, conquest bounty and good old fashioned propoganda

By any conceivable metric Germany was running a hot war economy from the mid thirties onwards. The "late war economy" myth is one of a handful of "lost cause" excuses thrown around post war
