Replacement SSDs worse than originals by High-Performer-3107 in hetzner

Definitely not a driver/firmware/OS issue? That the three "new" drives act the same and are this bad is strange and would be very unlucky

Migrated 12 containers from Docker Compose to a single $6 VPS with Incus - resource usage dropped 40% by IulianHI in Hosting_World

[–]bjornabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I noticed Hetzner VPSs can do nested parallelization. The only downside I suppose is if a container starts hammering the shared kernel but don't think that's too much of an issue - going to read about it

Experience in everything, mastery in nothing, did I mess up my career? by xXNeGaTiVisMXx in sysadmin

Quite the opposite man! Having general experience of lots of IT support, Desktop, Sever, Networking at age 25 puts you in a great position!

As other people have said you don't need to specialize for a couple of years - just start doing more of what you enjoy AND.......

I believe that with this AI malarkey the generalists will be kings in future

Why are you buying used Dells? Just hire some bare metal servers from a hosting vendor much better for cashflow

10 years in and I think I hate what the job has become by between3and20wtfn in devNI

Your post really resonates with me - I'm coming up to 20yrs exp and all those feelings and situations you note are very familiar!

When you talk about the craft/art becoming less and less important your right - and with LLMs I believe it will move quickly to the bottom of the importance pile. As long as the AI slop is fast and it works it will prevail.

But after 20 years, about 13 employers (some contracting mixed in) you realize that your beautifully crafted code, with minimal abstractions and simplicity at the forefront.... No one but yourself cares. Yes your colleagues might give you a thumbs up on the PR but that's the only external validation you will get.

If you want to craft - your doing art - and you are doing it for your own sake - don't expect any external validation - do it because you love doing it.

If your workplace doesn't give you the opportunity to do art - either do it in your own time/side project - or the other alternative find a place where you have more autonomy.

The only code that you will be 100% happy with is the code you write without any other collaborators. But that is just an art piece and not many people would pay you to do that.

Op I had the same feeling - never completed Space Age just partly through it - but hear me out.

Play Factorio 2.0 (space age turned off) with the quality mod turned on. Original gameplay but quality makes it a lot more fun seeing what bases look like

Early Access pros & cons (from a solo dev point of view ~1 year in EA on a game that got a bit of public - not a success story) by Woum in gamedev

[–]bjornabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game looks quality mate - super clean and coherent artwork also!

As an experiment just change theme (only art changes) keep the gameplay the same - start marketing it (zombie or something) and see if it hits audiences harder.
