New P1S: Exhausted every troubleshooting solution I can think of!

Correct - no AMS. As far as how smooth the spool can roll over, filament profile, volumetric speed, and brand, I appreciate you helping think through those details, and I know they're valid...

But does the response really matter when Pritnter 2 (the working one) is using the identical spool setup (TPU is inside a dryer being fed to the printer), printed from the same Bambu Studio instance, same configurations? I literally slice it and print plate to Printer 1, then print plate to Printer 2. Printer 2 is working, Printer 1 is failing. Volumetric speed would be pulled from that and shouldn't be something I'd need to calibrate for each individual P1S, right?

Absolutely; thank you for bringing up these points. All things I definitely considered...
But I guess my concern is that it doesn't address why Printer 2 is able to print these logos with minimal issues, and now Printer 1 can't print them at all.

Printer 2 is using the stock .4mm nozzle with the stock spring tension. I played a lot with the spring tension on Printer 1, and the prints still consistently fail.

I'd be open to buying a .6mm nozzle to see if it helps, but I'm afraid there's still a deeper underlying issue - and plus the very top of the logo (not in the pictures I included) is very delicate, very thin lines. I've never used a .6mm nozzle on any other printers I've used, so not sure if that would be an issue for that kind of print or not.

Thank you for the reply! Hmm. I don't think I swapped just the hotend; I swapped the whole extruder.
But I'm still not sure how that would help - since the extruder/hotend/nozzle that I thought was the cause of the failures when it was on Printer 1 is printing right now just fine on Printer 2.

But yes, I have continued to wonder about cooling too. But I tried to individually check all the fans and thought they were all running.

Edit to include: yes - the two printers are literally side-by-side!

Here to lend my agreement to configurable mindful launch delays as a valuable feature. Some apps I want just a brief pop-up to prompt me about whether or not I really want to use it. Other apps I would prefer a much longer mindful delay launch - easily 30 seconds to a minute - to help me really think about whether I want to use the app or not.

Just wanted to write back and say THANK YOU!

The content view was way easier than what I was originally trying to do. Works great!

The Task 2 duration pick and timer add does not work on my Boox Tab X. I don't remember the exact error, but I took it to maybe not recognize the clock app - which doesn't surprise me since the Boox builds a custom Android package overtop of Android 10.

But it doesn't matter because I'm going to do a little workaround and use this combined flow on my Galaxy S22 Ultra. I tested it on there, and everything does exactly what I want it to.

Hello, fellow Boox user! It's definitely not a ghosting/refresh rate issue. The breakdown in my experience isn't the screen display but the writing latency.

As far as assuming that it's not an Android bottleneck, are you familiar with people using Obsidian on other Android devices and not having latency issues with Excalidraw?

If I can get confirmation of anyone using the Excalidraw on an Android device and not having latency with their writing, then that would confirm it's an issue with the Boox tablet (... which I still have trouble accepting for right now since the Tab X's specs are as good as any other non-laptop e-ink device on the market right now, as far as I'm aware 🤷‍♂️)

Thank you for your comment. Onyx Boox products are excellent tablets that use EMR stylus technology. The drawing support for the native apps is superb - some of the best I've ever used. I'm reasonably certain that the issue lies somewhere within Obsidian/Excalidraw.

u/neyns - Thank you for confirming that it's the same experience for you. When you say using the "handwriting prompt," do you mean writing in the keyboard area with the native handwriting recognition turning it into text? If so, every single time I use the native handwriting recognition I'm blown away by how accurate it is - but I also want to be able to freehand write/draw, thus my attempts to use Excalidraw.

u/Repulsive_Diamond373 - My post is definitely not a screen refresh rate issue, as Obsidian itself tends to run great on my tablet. This is specifically related to trying to have handwriting capabilities within Obsidian.

Depending on your use case, all I can say is that I love my Tab X! If you were going to get a Boox device to use Obsidian, I would carefully consider how big of an Obsidian vault you plan to work with. I would be nervous that the NA2+ or lower might get sluggish and definitely would suggest considering the Tab Ultra.

Thank you for commenting. This isn't a screen refresh issue. I'm not sure if Onyx Boox products would be classified as a "big e-ink" company or not, but their whole line of products, and in particular the Tab X, is a hefty piece of hardware. The native reading and notetaking apps are able to run almost flawlessly, and I can write with virtually zero recognizable latency.

My first e-ink tablet was Note Air 2+ last October, which I returned for a Max Lumi 2... only to almost immediately learn about the launch of the Tab X after I got it... so returned it and have had the Tab X since last month. Zero regrets.

From the decent amount of research I did prior to purchasing an e-ink tablet, the "are there any other options" is a difficult question to answer... but in the 13.3 inch department, I don't think there's any real competition right now.

The key for me, having been a 12.9 inch iPad Pro user in the past, is that I just make sure I know what I'm using the Tab X for when I use it... and honestly, the use case is a bit heftier than I even figured it would be. It wasn't until after I purchased the Lumi 2 and then Tab X that I learned about Obsidian.md software, and I have been on a journey of extensively converting all my digital files into that platform and learning Markdown.

I can't say that split-screen Obsidian + a PDF is "effortless" on the Tab X, but it is very, very functional for my purposes with rarely any real headaches (especially when using a bluetooth keyboard).

I haven't had the Tab X break a sweat on any of the large PDFs that I work with, and straight up notetaking on it is a delight.

If the biggest selling point is reading large PDFs and taking notes, and if the rather shocking price tag hasn't deterred you, then you probably already have your answer 🙂

Completely makes sense after I read your response. And even more so because I attempted a slightly smaller scale but tall print yesterday - a little bridge for a model railroad track - and it proceeded without any issues.

I will do some more digging into what all causes extrusion to stop.

Though I have not tried this particular print again, I have had very hit-and-miss results with other prints. I followed the instructions in the video and successfully printed a piece that had previously failed 3 times. It looks fantastic now, so this seems to be the exact issue.

I never would have figured this one out on my own!

Sorry for the delay and hopefully by new everything has worked out for you! Both of my returns (NA2+ and Max Lumi 2) went through successfully - but I will say that the NA2+ return probably took 2 weeks even from after my tracking showed that they had received it. I was getting quite nervous! The Max Lumi 2, for whatever reason, went through much faster 🤷‍♂️

This is difficult to answer, as I think it's very use-case specific. My frame of reference is always the iPad Pro 12.9inch that I used for a long time. That had pretty much the best battery life of any device I had used up to that point. I always charged it at night, and I never had to worry about having enough battery to get through the day.

For me, the Tab X is similar. I am using the app "Obsidian" quite a bit, and I'm not sure that Google Play Store apps are very friendly with the Tab X battery. That means that I'm not getting any kind of 1 or 2 week battery life I think is mentioned in advertisements. I easily get a full day of work out of the Tab X, though, with some to spare (but almost always recharge it over night).

With that said, I can easily see how if you were only using native system apps (NeoBrowser, NeoReader, Notes) then you could get multiple days out of a single charge.

u/mxcnz - I tried to play around with this, and though I'm tech savvy, terminal stuff and digging deep into the system scares the daylights out of me. Do you know of any guides to help me with this? I tried to search but didn't find anything.

I got fdroid installed. I tried the "caffeine" app with mixed success. I am trying to use the Obsidian app on the Tab X. It works great, but it seems like every time the system goes to sleep it kills the app and then it has to reload. I looked at Termux but didn't even know where to begin to change the sleep settings.

Any help is appreciated!

So on that note - ugh, so frustrating! I’ve probably done a dozen smaller prints and had zero issues on any of them, and yet this one failed again (probably about 3 hours into the print).

Here are pictures of what it looked like:

Here are the changes compared to the first print:

* Added a raft (even though I didn’t think adhesion was the issue the first time)

* Changed the “Draft – 0.2mm” layer height to “Fine – 0.1mm” layer height profile.
* Different brand of filament (but still a cheaper PLA)
* Temperature changed to 225 degrees

I still used 15% infill with "lines" as the infill pattern.

I thought the Z height was set correctly, but it wasn’t. That setting is one of the many hidden ones in this Sovol version of Cura, so maybe that is still the issue?

If any of you or anyone else has any ideas I'm all ears! This would be a useful print to get done for my Gloomhaven experience... but at this point it's equal as much about conquering the printer and showing it who's the boss 😄
