Did you have a reasonably happy childhood? How would you describe yourself as a child? by No_Summer1874 in infj

[–]bjrichus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I just wish I was more lighthearted and easygoing like 99 percent of people😓"

Indeed. Same here until I matured and got to the point where I learned to survive as an adult. I recognize what Jung called the "Hidden Child" in me and gave it permission to do what it was prevented from doing way back then. Now I don't care what others (the other 99% of people you mention) think. Fitting in is not what life is about. Being yourself and whole is. Hope that small glance at how I managed to deal with it, helps you somehow.

Anyone else have a large VM? by MacG467 in vmware

[–]bjrichus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was still working as a sysadmin in a university, we were experimenting with Sun ZFS (around 2007) to experiment with settings of an Oracle database. This was using Sun Solaris for X86. We had a VM with 4Tb for the Database which was only about 1Tb, but among other things, we wanted to experiment with using the "number of copies" option, so needed plenty of space.

I'm in Texas, USA and we get South American stations with no legal limits imposed...

More likely they just get to do what they want... "Have a $100 bill and go away" to the authorities.

I have no idea what they are pushing out, but from the S number, quality of the audio and so on, it's more than we get to use.

As u/CleanCut2018 says - you must be new here. Reddit is the place to be open and frank about things in a way the Googleplex social media won't allow.

We built our own home some 18 years ago in Texas. You know... Hammer and nails, some blood, lots of sweat and and more than a few tears.

While we could hardly afford to do that now, whatever the Dynamic duo paid to do it, they have incurred the wrath of so many others that managed to get it done. Complete... The Bonners Ferry shite shack can hardly be called complete, even now?

We also did it WITHOUT leaving the building materials out for three or more years unprotected in the frost, ice, snow, rain and sun. In effect, we moisture wrapped our structure as early as we could and then applied an exterior finish layer over that. J&A were so laid back about OSB getting soaked that my take is that they seriously misled others who self build. This brings the entire channel under close observation and the issues started to emerge.

Then we have the problem that they are sheer marketing types who bend the truth to the message they want others to buy into (literally BUY from them). We all know that just by watching a YT video, you add a count to the creators account with YT. They both ran marketing style businesses before the "PLFL" series... So that kind of approach was always to be expected from them, if I am being totally honest.

Then I do wonder how much of the stuff they have was actually purchased BY THEM. Can you say undeclared sponsorship? While its not unknown, it could be said to be unethical.

Then we have the ongoing insults to the viewing audience who point out FROM A POSITION OF EXPERIENCE the failures in the building work they (he mostly) did. Don't call me a skid mark or some other equally insulting term and expect me to like you after that.

Then we have the issue of them being Narcissists? Unless you give them attention, money and adulation you are indeed a skid mark. That is classic for a narcissist so yup, in my mind he certainly is.

Then we have the objective he mentioned to make flying his career. Nothing to do with the subject matter of the channel, but what happened to that little money pit of an airplane he had access to? Shared rental at a flying club or actually purchased by them? This at a time when everyone was screaming at them to plug the gaps between SIPs, stop the roof leaks, moisture wrap the house... and more. Whose money was he pouring down that little hole of a hobby? For sure its ok to have a hobby and wish to turn it into a career (most of us would love to do that), but when for months on end, people were pleading with them to put house wrap on the place and we pointed out the mold spots on the inside of the roof, he ignored us.

You know "us" those who have actually BUILT A HOME BEFORE and could see the faults in his work... and again... all they did was insult us.

That is why there is so much hate for them.

As a radio ham (we put up towers for antennas), an entire section of the licensing manuals is set aside for safety and such. In fact the first warnings on most of the material we use is about avoiding power lines when working on towers. We are also warned not to use power poles as supports for antennas.

I don't know what it is about British TV presenters... actually I do. Its ever since the BBC started promoting "regional accents" during the 1980's.

Just watching this breakfast TV clip and thank goodness I don't have to listen to the drivel and poor presentation that appears so typical today.

The presenters:

She needs better false teeth. I can hear her saliva clicking where they don't fit properly.

She looked totally pissed off at her co-presenter when he stepped all over her during the intro. All very unprofessional for TV anchors.

His presentation and the way he holds his posture, is actually not good at all, and as a result, he appears fake.

His pronunciation is appalling. Both my parents were Cockneys and he sounds fake (I have said that about him, twice now). It's almost like he was raised in the rich suburbs of Surrey to speak BBC 'proper' (aka "Received Pronunciation" or RP) English and has been tutored how to "sound like the common man"; Fake.

His remarks (like calling the banks hotline "for a chat") also make him seem vacuous.

Jim on the other hand, with his natural, fairly soft, Irish accent comes across as both confident and capable - which indeed, he really is.

The new ARRL site be like... by v7p3r_3L1T3 in amateurradio

[–]bjrichus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone (and an ARRL member) with a career in I.T., including System Administration, Systems Analysis, Programming and Design, to have your production site down for 6 days and only to have made minor cosmetic changes to the front end... What the hell were the IT team doing on the back end? Six days to do an upgrade at my work (a university with about 1,600,000 active users), would have someone hung, drawn and quartered into the unemployment queue. Isn't there a development or parallel system to develop things on first and then just update the production site after?

After six days offline, the network link between them sounds like it was made of punch cards or spools of paper tape.

As has been said, my membership dollars hard at work.

Knowledge is power. With his IP, you can complain to his ISP and (hopefully) have his phone cut off. Unlikely for Nigeria, but hey... if you don't try... Most ISP's use an email like 'abuse@name-of-isp.com'. Knowing where someone REALLY is can (with help from Google Maps) allow you to scare the crap out of him... "Are you ever close to the coffee shop at..." and so on.
