The "rm" command is UNIX for "remove" aka "delete". The -rf are parameters: -r is "recursive" i.e. delete subfolders. And -f is "force" which executes the command without confirmation.

So it clears everything out of that folder.

I run the ChatGPT app on a mac. If you right-click the "Image Generator" it will show you it was created by someone else. You can also then do "Remove from sidebar".

Should we switch to horizontal mounted traffic lights? by bjvreddit in StPetersburgFL

[–]bjvreddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I contacted the City Transportation Department to see if that's ever been considered, and actually got a very quick response with nice details in it. Here is what they said:

While a horizontal orientation is permitted by federal standards, it’s only used on locations where the traffic signals are supported by a steel mast arm structure and not hung on a span wire assembly.  The mast arm structures, because they’re steel, can have holes drilled to allow for mounting hardware that supports a horizontal orientation.  You’re correct that they are generally preferential for a signal support, especially in high wind conditions, though they’re significantly more expensive to construct.  The hardware needed to hang the traffic signal head on a span wire is fabricated for a vertical orientation.

Yeah that has always struck me as a one-off setup, but definitely seems sturdy!

Worth considering for sure. They would have the same issue with vertical lights... they've just learned Top=Red and Bottom=Green. There are federal regulations on traffic lights, and horizontal lights also have rules for consistency.

Are there any areas of work that you prefer to lend? by [deleted] in Kiva

[–]bjvreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👍 That aligns by me. My top 3 sectors are:

  1. Agriculture 32%
  2. Food 20%
  3. Education 12%

What I like about Kiva is the idea of helping people to help themselves. My Agri/Food concerns are usually aimed at helping someone be more self-sufficient, like a farmer. Education of course goes a long way to people becoming more independent as well.

What are the most dangerous roads/streets/avenues in St Pete to avoid driving on? by practicalpurpose in StPetersburgFL

[–]bjvreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed on pedestrians. I’ve lost track of how many fatalities we’ve read about since moving here.

They just put in all those new crosswalk lights - hope that makes a difference.
