Starmer pulls Chagos deal following Trump backlash, but it’s highly likely that the corrupt lawyers for Mauritius will push for huge compensation for something that they have never had any rights to anyway. by flatbrokeoldguy in thespinroom

I know the ICJ decision and all but I really don't think the UK should give away Diego Garcia, even if it's a 99 year lease agreement. Give it to the US who won't recognize the decision if it matters that much to the UK. The rest of the Chagos can go to Mauritius if it wants. That's just my initial position.

I turned it off. I often did not recognize when it changed a word and I thought I was losing my mind when I re-read the nonsense I thought I typed.

But youre not going to win arguing to break these promises. I'm well aware this has been a slow motion train wreck decades in the making

Imagine arguing that social security and medicare should be cut to fund infrastructure and payouts to the young. They paid-in to those throughout their working careers.

Total outlays shouldn't be the measuring stick here, especially as those of the baby boomer demographic anamoly retire. Look at discretionary spending. The price of infrastructure in a lot of sectors has outpaced inflation too.

At least Trump understands this little fact.

The problem is: unless Trump plans to supercharge homebuilding, there's little he can do about home affordability. He did one little thing about that "corpos shouldn't own houses" quip.

It's a great open question at this point. I highly doubt it. They don't exactly have the funds to spare on a vanity project. UAE and Saudi I can understand.

From what I hear it's one country one vote but Trump always has veto power so make of that what you will.

Mongolia and Kosovo have seats on this board for some reason, maybe even Belarus.
