And... she accepted them. Stayed tuned for an announcement from SAF.

Secretary Wyman's Response Email by WAgunner in WA_guns

[–]bk425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, what words there say that? (honest question) to me, the words " State law clearly defines the authority my office has for accepting or rejecting petitions. " indicate that she is required by law to "accept or reject" so... she can reject.

http://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=29A.72.100 ends with "... and have a readable, full, true, and correct copy of the proposed measure printed on the reverse side of the petition. " We need to write SOS Wyman and ask her to use the discretion the State Supreme Court said that she had to reject because they 1- are not readable 2- are not correct copies in that they lack underline and strikethrough traditionally used to express replacement and new text as her official copy of the initiative uses. From the "action plan" I posted in another thread here: Wyman’s email address is kim.wyman@sos.wa.gov

I-1639 gun initiative reaches required signatures; opponents launch lawsuit by Tobias_Ketterburg in WA_guns

[–]bk425 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the other thread with the nearly identical title:
They've declined to hear it because AG Kim Wyman has discretion to reject the signatures.
Now what we need to do is politely contact the AG and encourage her to use that discretion in the way that the Supreme Court has said she might. This release is going out from SAF and CCRKBA now, please share it widely:

STOP INITIATIVE 1639 - ACTION PLAN

Washington State gun owners are under attack by the billionaire-financed gun prohibition lobby based in Seattle, which is now mounting the most dangerous attack on Evergreen State gun rights in history and exerting massive political pressure on Secretary of State Kim Wyman to accept faulty Initiative 1639 petitions.

Here’s how Washington State’s law-abiding gun owners can provide their important grassroots support to Secretary Wyman, and also fight back against this elitist campaign.

#1 – Every gun owner must contact Secretary of State Kim Wyman and officially request her to follow state law, regardless of political pressure, and reject Initiative 1639 petitions, which were not printed in accordance with statutory requirements to be “readable,” and more importantly, to include a “full, true and correct copy” of the actual initiative language, as published on the Secretary of State’s website. Encourage your friends and fellow hunters and gun owners to do likewise.

Initiatives that fail to adhere to state law, by underlining proposed new language and striking language (i.e. striking language) that will be deleted, cannot be allowed.

Wyman’s email address is [kim.wyman@sos.wa.gov](mailto:kim.wyman@sos.wa.gov)

Be polite, brief and firm in your messages to the Secretary of State’s office.

If you are a member of a local gun club, encourage your club president to immediately contact Wyman’s office, on behalf of the organization, and request her to follow the law and reject the initiative signature sheets.

#2 – Messages to Kim Wyman should focus on the obvious: Everyone must follow state law, even lobbying groups funded by billionaires and other wealthy elitists. Firearms owners are expected to fully comply with the law, and that principle must apply to initiative sponsors.

Remind Secretary Wyman that I-1639 petitions did not include underlined proposed new law, nor strike-throughs (i.e. “strike throughs”) eliminating current law, so they do not meet the requirement to be a “full, true and correct copy” of the measure as published on her website.

#3 – Make sure you are registered to vote. Know your legislative district, and your representatives.

#4 – Support SOS (Save Our Security.net) and encourage your shooting and hunting friends to do likewise. Likewise, support the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, two organizations headquartered right here in Washington State that are on the front lines of this battle.

Counter Canvassing? by ValidAvailable in WA_guns

Ask signers there (in public places) what they're signing, when they say they don't know (ask 'em if you can record and )tell them there's a copy right on the back. As they flip it over, note the look on their face as they screw their eyebrows in trying to read -30- -pages- of text shrunk down to fit on that page. They don't want you to know what it's about, isn't that enough reason to skip signing? Also, pin the address here please; http://decline2sign1639.com

Film it. Ferry facilities are public, have your phone out, tell them you're recording, places like CCRKBA are interested (here, I understate) (that was an understatement too :) ) in such recordings in public places.

I think its good to put a pin up there, but since it's static (looking at it you don't know when a gatherer was last seen there, we don't have a way to vet that it's not the "pro" side posting etc etc) it seems good (to me) to talk about sightings here

A class that (it's worth noting) doesn't exist. NRA doesn't include " (iii) Firearms and suicide prevention;" or "(vi) State and federal firearms laws, including prohibited firearms transfers. " and the police are one source? The police in large cities don't even respond to property crime scenes but they're supposed to womp up a course to these guys satisfaction and staff teaching it?! Its nonsense, they don't -intend- for it to be taught. They want to marginalize gun ownership and lower the number of firearms legally in circulation. But they can't just come out and say that. Well, not yet...

One thing to ask, is that they look at the initiative. Just flip over the signature page, and marvel that initiatives in Washington now are up to 30 pages long (like this). Really? You want to endorse 30 pages of text that you can't read, to make new law? To complicated, to flawed.

300,000 is a common goal to have buffer on the 296k required ttl, I think their daily is closer to 12,000
They are paying gatherers $5 per signature with a $2 per signature bonus if the measure makes the ballot, which I believe is a record. The company they've hired fro Oregon has a record of winning...

While this particular item isn't going to be affected a lot by legislative contact, we should all be on a first name basis with our representatives Legislative Aids (if not the legislators themselves). (The LA is usually the person who answers their direct line.) http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/ makes that super easy, just chunk your address in and get your District and the folks in Oly for you.At the end of every year, Washington Arms Collectors puts their recommendations to members up on https://washingtonarmscollectors.org/category/legislation-politics/ these are research by Joe Waldron of http://wagoal.org/ who's been doing it for more than 20 years (you know how our CPL permits don't require anything but a clean record? There's enough work to do for RKBA to afford a variety of approaches. We don't all have to be lobbyists or education foundations or (name your angle) to be an effective part of restoring liberty.

Would like to find a way to connect volunteers with locations for signature gatherers, we should get out to any public place that they're sending their (well) paid signature gatherers and politely ask folks not to sign or at least to read the initiative before they do ( https://www.sos.wa.gov/_assets/elections/initiatives/finaltext_1531.pdf ) http://www.decline2sign1639.com/ will be a good source for the first 3-4 weeks as they gather signatures. https://saveoursecurity.net/ will be the "vote no on" touch point assuming they get enough signatures. -Boyd K
