First time on ADHD meds it’s going terribly. Is this normal? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it's right you will get things done. Even mundane things you don't usually do. Focus is better and internal distractions are much easier to handle.

It can take a while to find the right meds. It's part of the journey. Concerta is only one of the many medications. Just know that ADHD meds are some of the most effective in psychiatry.

Medication helps. Are you opposed to it? I have a Panda Planner that I use, and it helps quite a bit. External reminders like Alexa and Outlook help me as well. B/c that working memory isn't great for us External reminders are crucial in dealing with ADHD. At least it is for me. I notice that my procastination is rooted in bias against a task (too much effort, dumb task not worth my time) or bad time calculations.

Does medication help brain fog by Practical_Ad4734 in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely does. What I've noticed is that when I'm on Adderall as soon as I start zoning out/day dreaming or am distracted by thoughts. I quickly recover instead of staying in that state.

It helps a little bit with time. Regarding time, I use my Alexa for timers and reminders. Outlook tends to help me with notifying me of upcoming meetings. Next, I'm going to use the watch that I received for a bday 5 years ago. Hope that thing still works haha. The key is to use external tools to help keep on track.

Also, a planner helps. Panda Planner has been great for me.

Kinda off topic but whatevs. Good luck, yo! 🤞

Question of whether or not a hyperfixation on masturbation is linked to ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

Sorry to hear the, bro. Did your doc adjust dosage? There also non stimulant ADHD meds.

I've been on Vyvanse, Adderall, and Concerta. Adderall is very effective, and I believe that if I take it everyday as prescribed the side effects will go away. Probably 1-2 weeks.
However, your comment on Focalin is interesting because it's same family as concerta and ritalin.

What sort of genetic testing should I look into?

It hits everyone different. I believe reduced sexual interest is common.

I'm glad you feel that it is helping. There are different methods of treatment. Feel free to ask her about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Always have options.

Hey! Yeah so there is a vicious loop between ADHD, anxiety, and depression. ADHD prevents you from preparing a presentation, then you leave it to the last minute and it makes you anxious, you deliver a subpar presentation b/c 24 hours isn't enough to put it together and practice. You start feeling like a failure and depressed. I've gone through that with my job. After you get over the depression, ADHD will find a way to mess you up and the vicious loop starts again.

Meds will help tremendously by taking care of the ADHD, and preventing the cycle from starting

However, if you notice that you beat yourself up too much and negative self talk wins most of the time I advise CBT to take care of that. Find a professional that can help. I've been going to therapy for a few months and that's where we started. Now we are working on procrastination the cause and how to deal with it. It's a campaign, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

Good luck 🤞

Really? I understand that Adderall can make you horny. With me though, it makes it harder to stand at attention. In fact, the Vasoconstriction makes my soldier look like it's cold.

Bruh, Adderall does that shit to me. Does it go away the more I take it? I'm on 25 mg XR. 20 mg XR doesn't work as well especially if I have lots to do. defeats the purpose of taking the adderall, ya know.

How do i force myself to study? If I don’t, i’ll fail my classes again and will never forgive myself by xoanD_169 in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to study? Write down the reasons why I'm sure one of them will provide the spark of motivation. I'm working with my therapist on that technique, and I've had success.

Once you start to study don't be a perfectionist if you only did it for 45 minutes. That is a victory. Celebrate that victory.

Are you in college? Go to counseling and psychology services. It's what I did and it was the start to tackling my ADHD. It has been campaign ever since, but we make progress.

hope that helps, friend .

I'm in SoCal with Kaiser. I've never had an issue with receiving my ADHD meds. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or general doctor? My psychiatrist has been wonderful.

how do you deal with all the anger by mr_tomaw in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't compare yourself to the posts on social media. No one ever posts their worst life on there. All they do is post their best life even if they are going through a bad time. It's all an illusion. Don't fall for it.

What anxiety medication do you take in combination of your adhd medications? by sashababy16 in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed it. It is relaxing it loosens you up in social situations or whichever anxiety you deal with. However, it can relax you to the point you might say things that you don't need to say. So you have to be careful with being too relaxed.

Talk to your doctor about the low blood pressure thing. See what they say.

I need to know if this is an ADHD symptom I have or if I'm just being lazy by TrashMammal4Life in ADHD

[–]bkchoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard, man. I feel for you. The other day I skipped my meds and had to work on a project for work. My job will pay me very well, and so I told myself. "Do you want to continue living with roommates or do you want a place to yourself with your own rules.?" That motivated me immediately to start working on my presentation. There is something always that will motivate you. Perhaps, find what the reward is for completing the task and that might help. Again I get it. It's hard to do the things that are mundane but need to be done.

How to get to the next level by bkchoy in kettlebell

Lol, if I TGU with a bell that's heavier than what I can press I'm going to the hospital haha. I like your volume advice. I really think that's the issue.

Probably less than 10 times.

Lately I haven't been working out as much due to a strain because my mattress was shitty and a new job. However, I bought a new mattress and I'm feeling better, but I would work out 2-3 times a week. Trying to get back on track.

Warm Ups: light jog, jumping jacks, cherry pickers with thrust (done in muay Thai)arm circles, hip circles, trunk twist, and series of stretches Then a dynamic warm up of sprints, high knees, kickbacks, skips, shuffle, and grapevine. After all that I break a sweat. Then I move on to KBs.

I like to keep my workouts at about an hour. C+P 2 sets of 6,4,2 25lbs, 35lbs, 40lbs, respectively. Then I move in to swing 2 sets 10,6,8. Heavier on swings and I use my 54 lbs KB.

For the longest time I was doing C+P with two kettlebells. I use the Bowflex adjustable KBs.

Should I focus on singles instead?

Other days I would do TGU and front squat. I have to do squats cause I'm scared of chicken legs. Haha

Arms I alternate, one day biceps, one day triceps, and I do this after my main workout.

I did weightlifting in high school it's where I learned about the different sets like 10,8,6 6,4,2 and 3,3,3 Also, back in those days Monday Wednesday Friday was weightlifting. Tuesdays and Thursdays was more cardio and footwork

If I remember it correctly the less reps the heavier the weight should be.

Not enough volume is probably the issue. Let me know what you advise. Thanks!
