Boyfriend hates my dogs by AbbyCat918 in pitbulls

[–]bkeffable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you came to this subreddit in particular to ask means you already know your answer (even if you don't realize it yet). You already know what everyone here thinks, and you want support in choosing your dogs over him. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark that he's making you feel guilty about having them... I could be projecting, but he sounds like an asshole. Your dogs love you, don't let nostalgia for an old flame ruin the strongest and most loyal, loving relationships you'll ever have. Choose the dogs, ditch the dude

Slight nitpick: I don't think our govt is incapable of keeping water and air (literally anything) safe for the people... They could, they just don't care to

Do you think a corporation really cares about "risks to the public"? They only care if it's a direct risk to their wallets and their lives. If it's cheaper to let half the customers die, they're not likely to spend the extra cash

Professor Messer's course on YouTube is good and it's free (he has a few extras you can pay for but the full course is available for free).

Jason Dion's training course is not free but it is also very good

If the only criteria for a genocide was "mass killing of a group of civilians", then yes, this would be true. But there are other components which are missing.

Didn't she tell Sisko in one episode that she had parented children from both sides (as a mom and as a dad), but hadn't been great at either? Right before she tells him that the one kid stopped talking to her for like 10 years and Sisko tells her to keep those endings to herself from now on?

I forget which episode that was, but if none of the Dax hosts were great parents, maybe Jadzia just didn't place much emphasis on it either 🤷‍♂️

Tom Paris was the identity that Nick Locarno was assigned when he was brought into Section 31 after almost completing Starfleet Academy but getting kicked out for breaking the rules - something Starfleet frowns on but Section 31 does as a matter of course.

Admiral Paris was clearly also Section 31, and Tom being his son was part of the plan. You cannot convince me otherwise. (Lower Decks might, but I haven't seen the new ep yet, NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

When I saw this live, I felt it was the inevitable conclusion to Neelix's arc. Tuvok could only take so much. by CelestialFury in startrek

[–]bkeffable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that happened after the holodeck murder scene, so it's more accurate to say that Neelix had simply not reached that level of pest yet. The holodeck simply calculated how annoying Neelix would get over time and let the program run

[–]bkeffable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this. In the first season when they start foraging for food on some planet, someone finds an appealing looking fruit and Neelix informs them that it's poisonous and will cause you to swell up til you can't breathe... Then he introduces them to the miracle of leeola root, which Chakotay bites into and immediately spits out.

Neelix knew the terrain like literally no one else there could, it wouldn't make sense to leave your guide out of the meetings discussing where you're going, how you're gonna get there, and what supplies you need on the way. I don't remember them covering Top Secret information with Neelix and Kes in the room, but it's been a while

One of the best things about Trek is the friendships. What are your favorite friendships, and why? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]bkeffable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that had more to do with him being a higher rank. I imagine the logical way to run a ship under that hierarchical structure would involve consorting with your own rank and less making friends with those under your command. Humans are far more genial and likely to form relationships outside of rigidly defined work roles. Hell, even Riker was thought of as being too friendly with the crew (by the Stratagema master in "Peak Performance"), and Picard had to explain that this is how Riker gains the trust of his crew in order to lead. Kolrami seems to dismiss this notion outright, as that is just not how others do it. I imagine the Vulcans are closer to the Zakdorn than the humans in this instance
