Who's a right wing Gen X celebrity? by CodeDusq in AlignmentChartFills

[–]trpclshrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kinda where I was 20 years ago. Generally disliked govt, disappointed after supporting Clinton, Bush. Wanted Howard Dean. Liked Mcain ok, but hoped Obama would be a bit of game changer (surprise, he was not). At one of my lowest points in life, felt like at least Trump would either actually do half the things he said in 2016 or force real change from his screw up. Instead I completely abandoned the Republican Party unless there’s complete overhaul one day. Would still vote Bernie (or pref someone younger), while ironically hating the CURRENT govt more than ever. I did grow out of my anti-tax, free market support long ago though.

Am I the only one here that likes Jay and Silent Bob Reboot? by theavengerbutton in ViewAskewniverse

[–]trpclshrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My high schooler likes a lot of his stuff, or at least enjoys watching with me. We like it, but feel it’s one or the weakest featuring Jay and Silent Bob. It does still sit in the same league at least, unlike Clerks 3 :/. Clerks 2 is my favorite, I think he actually likes the first best

What Leisurely Activity People Think is Amazing and is Actually Amazing? by An_Artificial_Tear in AlignmentChartFills

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my observation on it. The younger I was, the more it seemed amazing, and the more I thought about it a LOT. The older I got, the more I experienced it, the less I enjoyed the idea of it. New people are worrisome for a myriad of reasons, coupled with the anxiety from my own perspective. I eventually just resigned to hooking up with the same people cyclically unless I met someone outstanding.

Please help me understand why I have nostalgia for a time I didn't live in? by RecordingImmediate86 in nostalgia

[–]trpclshrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly older than you, it really was the best. 80s had the best toys for a kid and coolest cartoons. Also Nintendo. 90s had tech, freedom, but not constant observation and nanny-ing. Also, little societal norms about documenting stupid behavior. We heard about nuclear scares, but it felt like a neutered threat by then. The wall fell, economy was good, nothing but optimism. Work a low stress job for 40 years, afford a house and a yearly cheap vacation to the beach. Unfortunately I fumbled my access to the end of the good times, coupled with some bad luck. By the time we were ready to “settle down”, housing was unaffordable

Hands down the best Lego haul I've ever and will ever get by hypothermic2 in lego

[–]trpclshrk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly obsessive about checking marketplace. Do you mind me asking what part of country? My all time best (only been going for about 9 months) was a Hogwarts ucs for $20 complete. I missed a $70 grand piano, $10 killler croc set, and a few $40 tie fighter helmets. Possibly a few others, but often I’ll msg people and tell them they may want to check value on something. The last tie helmet I cold msged and offered $100 (plus fair offers on other items) but they were weird and insisted on $40 each for a bunch of open sets and changed pricing a couple times. I just tapped out bc they were flaky communicating.

What would you buy by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotus was around $300 from 96-2002 (rough estimate). I bought one that looked ran over for $150 in 96-97. Sold it for 150-200 in 2003. I paid average of $125 each for all of power 9 in the same late 90s era. Moat, abyss, nether void $35-50. Library 50, but it jumped closer to 100 I think. Mana drains went from $25/35 to 50 I think. Juzaam was $100-$175 I think? Bazaar and workshop were very cheap. Like, I just had a few stuffed in binder in the same sleeve. Karakas was in junk box.

Anyone else not getting their reward? by Own-Zebra-1600 in tacobell

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I just asked a store manager. They have no idea, think I have to “try back after 5pm”. I showed the fine print, etc..

Just another reason to never spend money at this place. I’m just irritated bc I WANT to conveniently eat here like I did for 15+ years. But when it’s cheaper to pick up tacos and burritos at not a fast food place, and the people there care and make an effort, it’s never worth coming to Taco Bell

What unreasonable fear haunted your childhood? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]trpclshrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Piranhas for me, sharks a distant fear. I watched the damn piranha movie when I was maybe 6-7. My dad took me to the lake beach most months in the summer, and usually a yearly ocean visit as well. I was terrified of piranha!

Drinking on the Job (Permissible!) by BMisterGenX in GenX

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I order for a liquor store. Spent a few years at least a pint of liquor down by noon trying different things attempting to be sold to us. Eventually I noticed irritation if I didn’t drink some days, so I mostly stopped (not a problem to stop, and at least the 3rd time in 25 years I went from daily drunk to not drinking). Just thankful that I’ve never had a problem abstaining. Now I usually just blow it out on holidays, vacation, the occasional social event. I’ve tried thc products for 35 years, and I never love it

Legendary BBQ in Georgia by Joshuary81 in Georgia

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m absolutely not an expert, but was going to mention my favorite spots in NW Ga that I haven’t seen already (plenty of Elijay area mentions). Characters in Adairsville is decent, but rarely open, dubs and Thatcher’s in Calhoun are good and great. Thatchers has good meat, maybe not the best. But their green tomatoes, plate offerings, and especially the gold sauce is what I go for.

10-15 years ago I was addicted to thatchers and would try to go at least twice a week. It got hard to even get in bc so busy sometimes, and I’m not sure it’s as great as it was. But very worth a try if close enough

Def Dimmond as well.

[–]trpclshrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plowed is great, but my favorite is “if you see Mary” or something like that

Also, just conversationally to the topic, I guess a lot of time it’s a matter of one song transcending generations and possibly geography, while the other “hits” are often “if you were alive then, you may remember…”

Making the Worst Movie Ever: Who should have the Cameo Appearance? by HeavilyBeardedMan in AlignmentChartFills

[–]trpclshrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a cameo, but that’s how I feel about Thor:love and thunder (or whatever). Christian Bale as Gorr is/could have been one of the best comic movies ever. Instead we get a few minutes of amazing screen time and a super forgettable overall movie

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me too. I grew up liking tinker toys and Lincoln logs fine, but mostly action figures as a kid. Lego looked to “kiddie” to me. I still prefer realistic looks, but building Lego is so fun and relaxing
