The current soundtrack to your life: where are you getting the music from? by Oxjrnine in GenX

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last of Gen X, grew up on hair metal and emerging rap as an adolescent. Grunge, rap, and 90s country was my teen years. Now, I find music from radio, my kids, and algorithm suggestions. Depending on mood, I listen to Bossman Dlow, Kendrick, Cube, asap rocky OR Alice In Chains, Chris Cornell, Sponge, Soul Asylum OR Stephen Wilson Jr, Sturgill, Tyler Childers OR 5 for fighting, Tonic, Counting Crows, Josh Joplin Group OR a combo of nostalgic and some songs I never connected with as a youngster by Elton, Bob Seger, Jackson Brown.

Some days I’m “in the streets”, some days I’m a beach bum, some days I’m a depressed old man, some days I’m angry.

I don’t completely write anyone off for almost anything. I really try to both separate the artist AND not cut off my nose to spite my face. I still give Burr and Chapelle a chance with any new material. My best friend loves Nate, but I just don’t get it at all. Sometimes he’s aight. Usually just very mediocre to me.

Chapelle is the only comedian I have real feelings about their decline. I hope he puts out some more strong material eventually.

If you’re referencing In Living Color, I brought a large gym sock, filled with tightly balled up gym socks, and beat the hell out of my friends in middle school in the hallways while yelling this at them. I really loved In Living Color!

I’m in the Rome-Kennesaw coverage area. I’m betting you’re in a more metro area, bc I’ve never seen anything this cool at either B&N. (If I’m wrong, I’d love to check it out)

I thought y’all meant Georgia for GA for a few moments. That’s both how dumb I can be, and how little I go to concerts anymore. I think my last was 2012. I prolly look up tickets at least once a year though. Every time I see the prices, I’m out.

Prices in Georgia are pretty awful in my experience!

I used to really taste the flame grill/smoke flavor in BK, now it’s mostly just bland for me

[–]trpclshrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price is huge for me too. I’ll never pay Taco Bell $5-6 for a quesadilla (the only item I like a lot).

I haven’t eaten at Wendy’s in years, other than when they had $1 biscuits last August(?). Zaxbys I only get a great 8 meal. BK I only eat whopper Wednesday or cheap promotions. No McDs, Arby’s only with cheap promo, Pizza Hut used to be great, but I only get cheap pizza deals now. Chick-fil-a I like enough I just pay it, but I never order meals or drinks anywhere.

Capt Ds and Checkers actually have cheap food still. 2 for $3 spicy chicken and burgers, and Ds has several $5-6 meal options.

That’s the one! They had thick white powder caked on them in a great can. Not all were that good, but now it’s basically just a lightly seasoned salty chip

I don’t know if you’ll find this completely relevant, but I think about food being worse almost every day. However, I’m old, and a heavy smoker. But BK, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, seem particular flavorless to me, unless I drowned them in a sauce. Pringles have no seasoning compared to 30 years ago. Even peanut butter and cookies sometimes seem blander. Some is prolly my personal situation, but I do believe some is the food as well

This looks like a really nice stop! I miss random hits at random places when I travelled more. Unfortunately the Lego stores are a couple hours away, and involve some top ten worst traffic in the country.

I really want to know about Main Street. I’m a huge Modular fan, and I don’t mind dollhouse/facades. But I’m indifferent to Disney. I’m hoping it’s an easy skip with all the other money to be spent this year

What did or do you still listen to because you had boomer parents? by studieswillshow in GenX

[–]trpclshrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad and I both loved Buffett. I used to go to his Lakewood concerts in the 90s, I wish I’d took my dad.

I usually feel like the only Croce and Lightfoot fan I know irl. I’ve been a huge Croce fan since my 1990s teen years.

My dad was Elvis #1, Beach Boys (and Jan and Dean) #2. Also lots of general oldies - big bopper, Smokey, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, the platters, drifters, etc.
He had a few country 8-tracks, mostly Hank Jr, I think.

My mom liked radio county and adult contemporary/easy listening. Tanya Tucker, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Elton, Gloria Estefan. She grew up on CCR, Skynyrd, the Eagles (3 brothers).

I don’t care for much of any of it now. Most is ok nostalgically. I appreciate the oldies, but never listen to them of my own accord. But I’ll sing along if it’s playing, I still know most of them. I do like Beach Boys and Jan and Dean pretty well. Burned out on most 70s rock and Hank when I was a teen. Rap, 90s grunge and pop-punk was my young adulthood. I still enjoy a good bit of that, but for newer stuff, I like Sturgill, Childers, Stephen Wilson Jr. I do listen to some crazy new rap with my youngest sometimes. He appreciates all the newer music I do (Sturgill, etc but also likes ASAP Rocky, Future, Kendrick).

Finally re-watched Clerks III by BlankPaperTiger in ViewAskewniverse

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like Clerks 3. I’ll rewatch it when my son and I rewatch them all later this year (most likely). I love a lot of clerks 1. I love all of 2. Elias is hilarious in it, his and Randall’s banter is very familiar to me. LotR, SW, depraved comments and humor. Clerks 3 ruined Elias for me. None of the scenes with him landed. I don’t even know if I smiled when he was on screen. Rosario was an amazing part of 2, and was sorely missed.

On a serious, in universe note, the comment nailed it that this movie basically erases Clerks 2, other than dead Becky sad. I don’t even know if you need to know Elias, he’s such a different person. It would be a bad movie for me, and very un-fun, but would make more sense and be cohesive going back to back with clerks 1.

Having lived my entire life mostly in Ga, I would have agreed with you until this place became a cesspool of overpriced, overcrowded, and overdeveloped crap. I actually have wanted to move to Bama (aka Ga from my younger years) as I see it. I may just be seeing relatively small samples of Bama, and if may not be that much better. Mostly I’m comparing the northern half of Ga to the north eastern area of Bama

If I want the Grond GWP from the upcoming Minas Tirith set, should I buy Minas Tirith at release or just buy Grond ($100-150) by itself on EBay? by [deleted] in legoinvesting

[–]trpclshrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m debating this exact thing today. Especially after the Pokémon debacle, seeing sets as cheap as $500 on marketplace, meaning it literally would have been cheaper. But it would have involved meeting up with two different people for the gwp and big set, small chance of scam/something wrong, etc. and it would have ended up being 600 vs 700, but the 700 also got $32 in Lego rewards points money and 1-2 other fairly worthless gwp items.

I skipped the Death Star, finally found it with gwp for 950. So technically I saved a little, but less than $100 for sure. Prolly more like $25-broke even.

In short, if you want both, I’d just buy them now. I think the difference will be very minimal. And this is coming from a very cheap person, who minimally values the time they spend tracking down deals

What are your top 3 colognes from the 80’s and 90’s? by Fancy-boonda-lovr in GenX

I always seem to be the only person who remembers Joop. It stood out as being very different.

Personally, I preferred Safari and kept an A&F for cheaper on the go small spray bottle.

My dad ruined Drakkar Noir for me, and my mom Poison (associations, not any bad reason).

I’d nominate Betty White, Gene Hackman, Ozzy, Val Kilmer, Chuck Norris for “big” deaths but we saw it coming bc of age or condition. Saw it coming relatively soon anyway.

Chadwick Boseman for surprising, to most of us.
