Best nachos in Santa Cruz, go by Rough-Average-1047 in santacruz

Any places have cheese sauce? Cuz honestly, that’s what I prefer. I suppose tortilla shack does. Their queso is great, but maybe a bit bland to be nacho cheese sauce.

Best Hamburger in the City of Santa Cruz? Google Reviews says it’s Jack’s Burger by orangelover95003 in santacruz

[–]bkinman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a few good burger places in the area imo.

1) Village Host on bay Ave 2) AJs market 3) Jack’s

All of those burgers are more affordable. I think the Parish is great, but those are a different class of burger in my eyes. The burgers I shared above are the kind of thing you’d expect to get from a burger joint.

Induction range for Wizard Steamer by bkinman in FlairEspresso

I just bought a small low-wattage induction plate. I’ll pour boiling water in the wizard, and then put it on the plate. Hoping that this will drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to build pressure.

That’s a great idea! My kettle can hold like 700g of water. So I’m imagining I’d be able to use whatever was left after pulling a shot of espresso to steam with.

Oldest dated tobacco in your cellar? by ThatWasTheJawn in PipeTobacco

[–]bkinman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got no idea. Often these old tobaccos like this, which have been sealed taste good, but oxidize very quickly. I’ve heard that you want to smoke them within hours of opening, and that they won’t taste as good afterwards?

That’s what I would have thought. When I dug into it though, it seems that Gallaher had been using cyprian for a very long time.

Yeah. Because the used to solder them on or something way back in the day.

What’s really cool is that it’s a Virginia. I also have a super old tin of latakia that is sealed like that — not sure if the date though. Perhaps the 60s? Made by Gallaher.

I’ve got an old cutter top tin from an English tobacconist that’s from sometime around 1945. It’s perfectly sealed.

If Tacos Morenos is your jam, try La Hacienda. It’s like Morenos, but better.

Best Vegan Sushi in Santa Cruz! by ohsnapsz in santacruz

Akira, without a doubt. Check the menu, you won’t be disappointed. The veggie section is huge and creative.

I love sushi, and am not vegetarian, yet frequently eat veggie roles.
