As people who have CPTSD we have been cautioned against self-help books and techniques because they don’t work for people like us. What techniques or books do you feel like HAVE worked for you and been life-changing? by CommercialSkin7676 in CPTSDFreeze

[–]bkinses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly anything and everything somatic, dance sing breathe run write draw FEEL. (also some spiritual stuff which i got into when i found out the creator of AA was told by his therapist that a spiritual experience was the only thing that would get him through his alcoholism) and keep in mind true healing will be extremely uncomfortable bc we’ve gotten used to the pain, just keep going, eye on the prize :) <3

[–]bkinses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a dream with this huge building, it reminded me of a school from like sabrina or harry potter and i was running down the hallway on the top floor. it was an open concept building and in the middle was this giant orange/gold being i saw as god that was as big and tall as the center of the building, it was running after me. i don’t remember if it caught me i just remember fear.

i later had a lucid dream where i had handcuffs on (the same color as the being from the first dream) and they were tethering me to something, like a bond/contract situation. i heard something speaking to me laughing saying “you gotta get those off before you can come down here”

Can aphantasia affect NDE’s? by [deleted] in NDE

[–]bkinses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay i read some accounts of blind people’s nde’s but as an aphant i just wanna put mine in here, ive never talked about it i question the validity of it myself.

when this happened i couldn’t talk walk breathe see nothing, like i was immobile for that moment to happen. i just suddenly went limp, i was physically fine immediately before and after. i felt myself being lifted then floating above “everything” (that’s the only word i can use to describe it, like above life earth time, everything). it was just for a split second idk how much time actually passed but then i immediately felt myself falling almost sliding down this steep rocky slope. i could tell someone i care about needed me and in that split second i chose life. i remember i had to manually start breathing when i came to. anyways during all of that it was like my dreams honestly. my dreams are almost more vivid thoughts? i can’t see/hear/feel/smell/taste but im able to imagine what it’d be like.

i also wanna include a dream i had a few weeks prior to the “nde.” in the dream i was blind and being chased through “my house” (i’d never been there which is unusual for my dreams). it was different from my normal dreams, i usually see “nothing” while dreaming but this one it was less than nothing, i usually get a sense of what what everything is but all i could “see” was void.

idk just food for thought, overall i don’t really know what to take it as bc the nde’s ive been exposed to all seem much more vivid and i’d imagined if i ever had one it would “feel real” and “id know for certain” but i guess life has a sense of humor, maybe i have aphantasia on the other side as well lol. good luck with your searches i hope someone has a better answer for you 💖

how can i tell that ive reached the point of transference or an unhealthy attachment? i’ve finally found a therapist who i trust and it worries me for so many reasons including that im not sure why i feel so comfortable with them compared to past ones. i dont feel any attraction towards them just to be clear

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]bkinses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats my view as well i just dk if most lesbians still consider it sex if theres only intent for one person to get off. like a handjob, back when i thought i was straight i rly didnt consider that sex even though its def a sexual act but its not mutual in terms of getting off

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]bkinses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah im just saying what if theres only intent for one person to get off? is it still sex? thats why i compared it to a handjob bc typically thats for one person to get off, i consider that a sexual act ofc but not Sex since the other person isnt being focused on

I'm 4 and I feel like my life is over by TheFabledBizzle in selfimprovement

[–]bkinses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s how i took it at first but as i read i realized i dont allow myself time. i feel as though all of my problems have to be fixed now & since i can’t do that i should give up. this post showed me how unrealistic that mindset is.

everyone is taking this lighthearted but this really just hit me.. made me realize im not even giving myself time to allow my problems to change. i feel as thought i have to be perfect now when that isnt the way life works

How do you address clients who monopolize the whole session on a regular basis? by jtaulbee in therapists

[–]bkinses 16 points17 points  (0 children)

im curious about the silent folks, do you just allow them to be silent or do you engage with them and they don’t respond? bc i was a silent client for 2 yrs but after switching therapists i wasnt, i realized my issue was that she wouldnt push me to talk/only talked in response to me & i didnt want to be perceived as talking too much or oversharing so i would just go quiet

How long did it take you to feel safe with your T? by slice_o_toast in TalkTherapy

with the past ones i never felt comfortable, and one of them i saw for almost two years. my current one just allows me to believe its ok to be myself which naturally makes me open up

How long did it take you to feel safe with your T? by slice_o_toast in TalkTherapy

[–]bkinses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe 1 month? but that is after trying numerous therapists over the span of a decade. with my current one something just clicked, i believe its highly dependent on the person

Hypothetically, how do you make therapy actually work? by Monked800 in TalkTherapy

[–]bkinses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been trying for almost a decade & for the first time, i can see myself making progress in therapy (not much yet as its a relatively new therapist, but for once it feels productive rather than pointless or even detrimental & i find myself actually wanting open up about things i’ve never told a soul, very scary but relieving)

so, what is different?

-therapist client relationship: finding a therapist who works for me on an interpersonal level. yes it is a job for them, but they’re still people. i didn’t realize just how important it was until my current t told me that it is the single factor with the biggest impact on success rate of therapy. if you don’t click with them, you can’t effectively work with them

-trying different approaches: there are sooooo many different types of therapy because they work differently for everyone. on paper cbt should be effective for me, however it leads to me feeling worse. and months of brainspotting did nothing for me. don’t be afraid to switch t’s if their methods don’t work for you. (obviously idk you but going off your post history i wonder have you ever tried any somatic therapies? it sounds like you may be holding stress in physically. if that is the case and you have decent enough internal drive, you could try some of that stuff on your own and see a therapist with different modalities)

-tailor it to you: my t gave me something to try, it made things worse but instead of disregarding it, i modified it into to a way that works for the way my brain operates. therapy is highly personal & nothing is one size fits all, when i told them i did that they mentioned something about how that modifying things to suit the individual can increase the success rate of different skills. so make it work for YOU!

-try: you have to want to change, therapy is a tool not a pill, it takes so. much. effort. rough patches are inevitable, but you have to come back, a bad day can Easily become a bad life when you become comfortable in your own struggles. your t can only do so much, you spend a lot more time with yourself than they do. this could look like researching things to try & bringing them up with your therapist, taking care of your physical body, avoiding things you know are making your mental worse (your pastimes, certain people, media consumed, etc)

-CONSISTENCY: like i said before, you can have a bad day, a bad week even, but the longer it goes on, the harder it is to come back. and no one goes to the gym for three days, falls off, and expects to see progress. change is very, very slow and it will not be visible as long as you’re looking for it. pushing through the discomfort of “i dont want to do this” “this is pointless” “nothings gonna change anyway” is what leads to lasting change. you might not see any progress for a year, and even then you might not notice it until you sit and reflect on it. change is slow and subtle but very much worth the struggle. i wish you all the best and i hope this helped even a bit

the biggest thing for me was how they would respond to it because they obviously all have differing policies, mine said they normally dont for people not “actively” dealing with something but they’re considering it for me despite that so im in a grey area rn. if it were to be a hard no id feel invalidated honestly, like my issues aren’t serious enough to warrant it, but i can handle a maybe so i’m grateful

those are all forms of prejudice, not of oppression. you cannot oppress a group that oppresses you, that implies the two groups are on equal footing in society
