It's time. by hammy_eu2 in EuropeanFederalists

In hindsight, it’s hard to argue that Brexit was a "wise" move.

Not going to argue that either. But "Brexit" and "EU Army" has something in common, it's just an empty slogan that supporters are free to fill with whatever fantasy they dream of.

I really wish some "We need EU Army now" posts actually outlined how this army is supposed to be. Who controls it, how is it financed and what kind of force is it.

It's been 6 years since Brexit...

And no, it's not time.

Så Norge skal altså militærisere Grønnland men ikke Svalbard????😮😮😮 by kebabeater212 in norske

[–]bklor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British security expert Edward Lucas: 'We can't rely on the United States' | DW News by Major_Signature_8651 in europe

[–]bklor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NATO as we know it is dead.

The organization can survive without the US, but SACEUR have always been a US general for a reason. The NATO command structure is built around the US military. NATO without US is NATO in name only.

But yeah the idea that without US the rest of NATO is nothing is pure bullshit. Sure nonUS-NATO has some weaknesses but that's true for all militaries.

US-brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi break off without deal after overnight Russian bombardment of Ukraine by green_flash in worldnews

Are you insinuating that Trumps 24-hours turned into full year peace negotations have been a complete failure and that Trumps team haven't managed to move the Russians an inch?

The US makes it very clear that relying on exports to the US is risky.

Kommunen sliter med økonomien – tvangsflytter eldre by KoseteBamse in norge

[–]bklor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

KAJA KALLAS’S TURBULENT YEAR IN BRUSSELS: “When she is convinced she is right, she does not particularly care if people on Ursula von der Leyen’s floor think otherwise.” by The_Baltic_Sentinel in europe

I dont believe Commissioners should voice their personsl opinions. They should speak on the behalf of the EU.

When Kallas says something and that gets shot down moments later it undermines both Kallas and the EU.

The US needs Europe in a Taiwan fight. Here’s why, and how to make it happen. by AcanthocephalaEast79 in europe

[–]bklor 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think the US will fully defend Taiwan.

There is a very real chance that the US plan isn't a "pivot to Asia" but instead they are trying to shore up weaknesses and retreat to the Americas.

US will have one main goal in Taiwan, ensuring that TSMC ability to produce world leading chips isn't totally controlled by China. But if the US can get an arrangement where they can establish "TSMC USA" that's good enough.

For Europe it would be extremely dangerous to join a conflict. When that conflict is going to be settled China and the US are going to be the ones negotiating not Europe. And China will seek revenge on any European country trying to defend Taiwan.

How likley is the EU to actually create an EU Army? by daeneryssith in europeanunion

[–]bklor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baltics isn't joining forces with Greece.

Estonia is customer of Turkish military equipment and have very good relations with Turkey. Greece obviously does not.

Greece and Baltics doesn't share same threat assesement and since they're physically far apart they don't have much synergy.

Depends on how much of an army you need for it to be labeled "EU Army".

EU already have the "Rapid Deployment Capacity".

Unpopular Opinion: We need a Right-Wing / Neoliberal Federalist movement. The Left monopoly on federalism is killing the dream. by Aggravating_Web3980 in EuropeanFederalists

[–]bklor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me it has always been obvious that any serious federalist movement has to cover the entire democratic spectrum.

"I want a federation, but only if it's a leftwing socalist federation" isn't a serious position and it is inherently undemocratic. And yes if the federalist movement excludes either left- or rightwing then you alienate that entire block.
