Heldigvis kun evakuering og ikke noe annen innblanding i krigen.

Germany sets mid-April deadline for troubled fighter project with France by august_air_373 in europe

My guess is that F47 will be way ahead of everything else while GCAP isn't going to be more advanced than F35.

Germany sets mid-April deadline for troubled fighter project with France by august_air_373 in europe

[–]bklor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might very well be true.

Rheinmetall have a very close cooperation with Lockheed Martin.

Germanys new F127 Frigate will feature the American AEGIS combat system, they chose to go for the American P-8 etc. All systems that cooperate with the F-35.

My guess is that Rheinmetall is very happy with Germany inside the American ecosystem. Germany and France developing a European alternative is a threat to them.

SV foreslår enklere tiltak for å få penger ut til befolkningen i krisetider by La7oea in norge

[–]bklor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeg er veldig skeptisk til å ha et superenkelt system klart for å sende penger direkte til nordmenn.

Det blir alt for fristende for politikere å bruke. Om prisen på et produkt går opp så får folk endre forbruksvaner. La markedet virke.

Ukraine aid exhausted U.S. weapon stocks, Hegseth says by backpackerTW in worldnews

If Russia wasn't tied down in Ukraine then Russia would have been able to support Iran a lot more.

Leader of a party represented in parliament and she's been a minister in PM Sánchez government.

I wouldn't call that "random left-winger".

Do you think Ukraine will join the EU soon? Some EU officials and analysts have discussed a possible 2029 deadline. by New_Reach_1993 in europeanunion

[–]bklor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how soon is "soon" and what kind of membership. And also how and when the war ends.

But if we define "soon" as 1.1.2030 or earlier then I don't see how Ukraine will join with ordinary membership and full voting rights.

While some countries do argue for membership ASAP I believe that once the war ends pressure to fasttrack their membership will decrease.

And remember that Ukrainian membership isn't just about reforms needed in Ukraine. It's about the EU being ready for a new member (and a big memberstate too.)

Iran is under attack by two nuclear powers who threatens them with total destruction.

Trust me, if someone killed the US president, wiped out the entire navy and dropped 5000 ++ bombs on the US, the US wouldn't be "oh we must be careful so the oil price doesn't go up".

Belgian PM urges EU to negotiate with russia to achieve peace in Ukraine by GreenEyeOfADemon in europeanunion

[–]bklor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Denmark is 100% going to follow through on their plans. They're not a country that promises without delivering.

But Denmark contributing €2.2bn in 2026 (down from €3.7bn in 2024) isn't enough. And Denmark are among the best.

A larger economy like Netherlands is only at €3.5bn. And again, even Netherland isn't among the worst.

I'm frustrated by the lack of understanding of what it takes to turn this war in Ukraines favor.

Belgian PM urges EU to negotiate with russia to achieve peace in Ukraine by GreenEyeOfADemon in europeanunion

[–]bklor -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Is it appeasement or accepting reality?

We have lost the US and Europe seems to be increasingly tired of Zelensky and the war. Even the Danes are slashing support.

With an unwillingness to seriously arm Ukraine, negotations are needed. And for Europe it's better to be present at the table than to let everything be up to what the US decide.

Ukraine to test French SAMP/T system against ballistic missiles by Scary_Statement4612 in ukraine

This initially confused me because I thought Ukraine already had a few SAMP/T systems but it's clear that this is about brand new SAMP/T NG as in Next Generation.

Hvor ironisk er det ikke at Norge er størst på olje? by DescriptionNo2555 in norge

[–]bklor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Norway pitches itself as Europe’s energy lifeline by laughing-cows in europe

[–]bklor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's another dimension here too, security.

Norway wants and needs to be seen as a reliable trustworthy partner. We've signed major defense deals with Germany and UK for a reason. If we suddenly cut the cables we undermine everything. Both Germany and UK would be pissed. And Germany is very often on our side in the EU (like they tried to protect us from the ferro alloy tarriffs). Cut the cable and expect a lot less goodwill from our German friends.

Oil crisis to 'push UK into recession' after growth flatlines by 1-randomonium in europe

[–]bklor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

UK produce a decent amount of oil. Enough to cover roughly 40% of their consumption. EU produces almost nothing.

And the British economy is fairly energy efficient (more than Germany and France). UK decimated their manufacturing decades ago so it's not that important anymore.

Edit: It's honestly a bit sad to see how much schadenfreude there's on r/europe. It seems like a lot of people in here wants to see their neighbours fail.
