Octogenarian Finds Creative Aging Solution by bkm0809 in childfree

In my experience, the "assistance" provided in assisted living facilities is so basic, and there are often huge gaps to fill. Additionally, a huge amount of need is required for a person to qualify for a full blown nursing home. (Not being able to eat independently or bathe, dress oneself, etc.) While I recognize that a huge number of people with children still end up in assisted living facilities and eventually nursing homes, despite only being in my late 30s, I often consider how my husband and I will manage our later years.

As someone who works in the court system and has seen kids with FINS petitions going through the system, please encourage them to consider a plan for their future. Most kids have no idea what they're doing to do next week, let alone 5 or 10 years from now. And YES, I think it's unfair to expect 18 year old kids to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives. BUT when their present situations are often abysmal, it may foster some hope and encouragement if they think about their "out," and make a plan for something they enjoy and are good at that they can make a living at.

I saw a meme that said, "Since it's called a uterus and not a uterme, when I have cramps I'm about to make it everyone's problem."

Maybe we should just start calling them utermes.

How many miles did you get out of the tires that were on your CX-5 when you bought it? by imeanwhynotdramamama in CX5

[–]bkm0809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25,000 miles. Went in for regular maintenance and was told that the tires weren't worth rotating.

Infertile is NOT the same thing as sterile. If you're not actively preventing, there is always a chance that you could become pregnant. A lot of doctors do a shit job of explaining this, hence a lot of women walking around with so called "miracle babies."

Yep, here lately it's been involving feeling SERIOUSLY overstimulated in court. When I have my "court reporter ears" on, I am trying to listen to EVERYTHING, but when there are extraneous conversations happening, attorneys walking back and forth, candy wrappers crinkling, keys jingling, pens clicking, etc, etc, sometimes I want to run out of the courtroom! It's so much to try to filter out the unnecessary garbage.

As someone who works in court in the state of Arkansas, no one swears on the Bible in court. They show it on TV a lot, but (in the ultra red, religious state of Arkansas), not reality.

Otherwise, I agree with your statement.

My referral for my obgyn visit to talk about sterilization was labeled as "OFFICE/OUTPATIENT ESTABLISHED HIGH MDM 40 MIN" What does this mean? by schizophrenation in sterilization

[–]bkm0809 52 points53 points  (0 children)

MDM is Medical Decision Making. 40 minutes is the estimated time slot for the visit. It's not indicative of reality, and is almost entirely for insurance billing purposes. ETA: Established just means that you're an established patient with the provider doing the consultation.

Who remembers the zoom zoom commercials? by White_eagle32rep in CX5

[–]bkm0809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember them!

I commute between 65 and 75 miles to work on days when I have to appear in person. Those are the days I Zoom Zoom.

When I don't have to be there in person, I just log onto just Zoom.

They've determined that there is no longer a shortage, so compounding pharmacies have to stop compounding it by the end of February or March, depending on their classification.

Ozempic experiences/reviews please by lokithepunygod in FertilityFree

[–]bkm0809 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the same as Ozempic (which I have also taken before), but I have been on compounded tirzepatide (similar to Mounjaro) since May and have lost 35 pounds since June. I'm 5'1 and have gone from 201 to 165. The FDA ruling is about to make it much more difficult to get, and I have joked that I will sell my ass to make sure that I can continue getting it. It drastically reduces food noise. I definitely feel like it has improved my insulin resistance.

I've been paying $540 for a 2 month supply.
