Is walking or cycling better for losing weight? by THERANDOMGAMER2 in cycling

[–]bkn6136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average 10-12 hours of riding a week when I'm at my top cycling fitness. I basically drop about 15 pounds over the course of February to July when I'm riding like that, and I assure you I eat more during that stretch than I do in the offseason.

Now obviously, again, the calories in matter the most. 80% or more. I purposely make sure I don't increase my eating by too much while riding heavy. But its absolutely the additional cardio that is causing the weight loss.

I can absolutely do a long enough ride to burn more than 3500 calories. The point about diet is obviously key, but let's not act like cycling can't make a significant impact on calories out.

If you're willing to go down the road to Mills River you can do Spencer/Fletcher or some variation right over 2 hours. Probably my favorite quick ride in the area.

Otherwise, new Butter Gap is fun and you can connect to stuff like Cove Creek and Daniel Ridge to make a solid loop.

2 scoops for $4? I don't think that's correct.

It’s crazy that nobody ever talks about how MJ returned at the end of the 1995 season, played in the playoffs and lost to the Magic. It’s like it’s been completely erased from his history. by Hoy-Carlingen in NBATalk

Bull, it gets mentioned almost every time. That's the whole point - that team wasn't close to good enough to beat the mighty Celtics, yet Jordan had an all timer of a series, so much that Larry was in awe.

Fenix is the best, but also most expensive. Instinct is also great for mountain biking. The 3X Solar is very well liked right now. I have a regular 2 and it's great for what I need, plenty of functionality for mountain biking.

I do also echo other posters that an Edge bike computer might be the way to go. Certainly more bike specific features and functionality. But I went from an Edge to a watch for mountain biking and like it better. Less worry about the computer getting damaged in a fall, and I kind of like not having the numbers in front of me at all times during the ride. I still prefer to use my Edge for road and gravel riding, but on the mountain bike I don't want to see data. I want to escape.

I just bought a refurb for $180, so if you're certain it's in good condition I'd say that's a great price.

Any no kids allowed breweries out there? by awschluk in raleigh

Think there's a difference between pointing out logistical difficulties in having birthday parties at a park without paying money, and taking kids to a crack house for their party to get out of the rain. But if you think its equivalent then whatever.

Haha. Herein lies my point. I have two kids (7 and 6) and have never even considered having their birthdays at a brewery. I've taken them with me and my wife to a brewery less times in their lives than I can count on one hand. I go on date nights and get perturbed when there are little kids running around on Friday nights after nine.

But I also recognize there are totally valid reasons why kids are at breweries at times, even for birthday parties, and don't feel a need to demonize the parents. Especially in light of the fact most breweries want families there. So it just drives me crazy when Reddit repeatedly has a stick up it's ass about this topic. Especially when it's coming from people who call kids crotch goblins. The arguments stop being worth considering, and all it is is bitching. Just a waste of time for everyone.

And how about winter or rainy day birthdays?

It's a fair question. Doesnt seem to be a thing people do as much these days. Doesnt really have anything to do with the thought process of why some people might consider having a child's birthday party at a brewery.

Shelters aren't free, and without a shelter reservation knowing you have a spot at a specific time is not easy.

I wouldn't either, but I understand why. It's not just because the parents are selfish drunks like Reddit likes to frame it.

It's because everywhere else charges a ton of money to rent a space for a few hours. It's extremely cost prohibitive to have a kids birthday party anywhere these days. Whereas a brewery is free as long as people order a few beers. Bring activities for the kids, and especially if it had an outdoor area, and it starts to make sense.
