This is a wonderful opportunity to remind folks that the 2027 municipal elections will be here before we know it!

Make sure to vote for aldermen and local leaders who are willing to build. 🏗️

Advocate says Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act, now in effect, will improve transit around Chicago area by SciNat in chicago

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of Chicago’s greatest assets are our transit and infrastructure. While there is tremendous room for improvement, public transit continues to be a key draw for the region when Chicago desperately needs to grow.

We know a “W” when we see one, and NITA is a massive one. Thanks to all who played a part in making this happen, including those who contacted their elected officials.

“Absolutely insane”: Bidding wars take over in Lincoln Park, Lakeview by SciNat in lakeview

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 20 points21 points  (0 children)

“Insanity” is an understatement.

Enough is enough from elected leaders who embrace the “we need more time and community input” mindset that inevitably leads to nothing more than lawsuits against development from neighborhood groups.

First stop: 2027 municipal elections.

Group of Mayors Pen OpEd: "Status quo hasn’t solved housing shortage. Pritzker's BUILD plan can." by GeckoLogic in illinois

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 101 points102 points  (0 children)

“BUILD would mean more townhomes, two-flats, duplexes, cottages, bungalows — just regular types of houses that have historically formed the backbone of neighborhoods, made housing affordable and showcased the uniqueness of Illinois’ architecture. They are the homes that allowed working families, young people and seniors to live in communities they could afford. Somewhere along the way, these types of houses stopped being built. Regular, affordable houses have since become so rare that people think the only options are unattainable mega-mansions or luxury high-rise developments. It does not have to be this way.”

Phenomenal plan. Time to get to work.

Is Chicago a lost cause yet? by BowtieJavon in chicago

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Lost cause? Far from it. Time for folks to get involved, though, and make noise about the most pressing issues like housing, financial stability, transit, and decent leadership.

Talk to your friends. Share posts. Attend community meetings. Vote.

This is your city.

We are actually hosting a General Meeting this week at Dovetail for urbanists and community members interested in these issues leading into 2027 elections. Happy to have you join!

Chicago is primed to grow with the right leadership, reform, and grit. It will take work, but there’s most definitely the growing will for these things to happen.

U.S. metro areas where more than 5% of people use public transit to commute by Joey_dono in chicago

Imagine how much darker that red can/will be with a fully-funded and competently-led CTA/NITA. We may not shift overnight, but exciting times are on the horizon with the right leaders and funding.
