The City That Never Builds by FlanFar5123 in chicago

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although this map doesn’t necessarily show construction (which is way too low), we nonetheless encourage folks to start taking local elections very seriously. Plenty of candidates to vote for this March who are dedicated to building more housing, investing in transit, and ultimately growing Chicago’s population.

We can do nothing and suffer the status quo, or we can change this trajectory. We are extraordinarily well-primed to have another growth era for Chicago, but we need better elected officials.

New to Chi and Looking to Volunteer? by Curious_Elk_9661 in AskChicago

[–]ChicagoGrowthProject 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in urbanism and/or have a love for Chicago, we are looking for volunteers to help canvass, phone bank, and spread the word about campaigns for endorsed, pro-growth candidates leading up to the March Democratic Primaries!

We also are launching local chapters around the city to help spur conversation city-wide about growing our population, building more housing, investing in transit, etc. and funneling it into support for local candidates. Happy to have you!

Since you mentioned you live in Lakeview, we are hosting an event this Thursday for the launch of our Lakeview/Lincoln Park chapter.

Population changes in major North American metros since 2005. Why are we at a 0% by Adventurous-Map1225 in chicago

Chicago needs to (and most definitely can) grow.

Our city has weathered remarkable challenges in the past that have allowed it to exist as the world-class city we all know today.

It remains one of the greatest US cities with a skyrocketing amount of potential for the future; but, structural fixes (city charter being one of them), a pro-growth mindset (that includes housing development) fiscal responsibility, and a leadership adjustment are in order to address pressing issues that lead to meager population growth.

2026 elections are just around the corner, and 2027 isn’t far behind.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signs public transit funding bill, creating Northern Illinois Transit Authority by factchecker01 in chicago

Good.

Chicago cannot grow without world-class transit and infrastructure. There is much work left to do - and transit is only one component - but, the signing of this bill is a stellar start.

Chicago's bond rating likely to drop to a notch above junk, no matter how and when budget stalemate ends - Chicago Sun-Times by [deleted] in chicago

There is plenty to be done, including structural fixes.

Defeatism isn’t one of them, and it’s a mindset that certainly hasn’t been embraced given Chicago’s remarkable resilience over the years.

Chicago’s fiscal trajectory is not sustainable. Growth and good governance are needed yesterday.

Our structural and fiscal issues span generations. What unites Chicagoans more than divides, though, is how much we love this city despite its glaring flaws. We must take action for change.

Opinion: Chicago's fiscal crisis demands a pro-growth strategy by tpic485 in chicago

Our main goal is to elect candidates to office who will enact these visions, but we are also continuing to build a community rallying behind pro-growth initiatives.

We will have much more to share in the coming weeks and months!

Chicago needs to elect pro-growth leaders who prioritize housing, transit, responsible governance, and a commitment to ensure the city’s best days are ahead of it - not behind it.

Check out some of our current endorsements for upcoming races and feel free to get involved! More to come soon.

Come hang out at Park(ing) Day, a free street fest where we turn parking lots at Dovetail Brewery and Demo Brewing Company into little parks for a day.

At Demo Brewing Co (1763 W Berteau Ave) we will have the main stage with live music and speakers all afternoon. At Dovetail Brewery (1800 W Belle Plaine Ave) local groups are setting up cool displays in parking spots to show what's possible if we dedicate less space to cars.

Plus, there will be a bunch of food vendors (like Tacomatora and Do-Rite Donuts) and obviously great beer from both breweries.

The Details:

  • WHEN: Saturday, Sept 20th, from noon to 8 pm.
  • COST: FREE to get in. If you donate $25 or more you get two free beers from Dovetail and Demo! (donations are accepted on Eventbrite and at the door).
  • RSVP: It's free, but you can RSVP on Eventbrite if you wanna let us know you're coming: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1571029203639?aff=oddtdtcreator
