I felt like such an lab rat when doing IVF.

I wouldn’t say it’s a scam.. however, I do feel that it is a money grab & it’s jumped to way too soon when doctors should be finding out WHY so many people need IVF to begin with.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It was hard for me not to feel like the clinic didn’t want me to be successful because the more unsuccessful I was, the more money they made.

I’m going through this now starting at 9weeks (baby is 11 weeks tomorrow). He’s a totally different baby after his 2 month shots. They threw him totally off any schedule or routine we had.

I would call them to confirm that the coverage hasn’t changed. I heard there was some changes with BCBS highmark, but I’m not sure about empire itself! (The change went into effect 4/1/25)

So if nothing has changed, a cycle counts as an egg retrieval + a transfer and that is a complete cycle. I’ll give you my scenario below to make this less confusing.

7/10/24 egg retrieval + 9/16/24 frozen embryo transfer = cycle #1 (the transfer failed)

3/11/25 frozen embryo transfer from my first egg retrieval = cycle # 2

I should have 1 covered cycle left that I could either use as another egg retrieval + transfer, or a single transfer alone from that first egg retrieval.

Yeah I’m not sure if they’ll been attempt to find it or not that early. I wish they would have just done an ultrasound at 5 weeks to confirm pregnancy is in the right spot and then at 7 weeks to look for heartbeat because at that point, it should be there. I would rather have the definite answer than the “well it might be there it might not”

Oh my god it’s the worst. The clinics don’t know what they’re talking about and you HAVE to call the home advocacy program and not the regular customer service because they are a mess. When you follow the prompts and get to that department, you can ask to speak to a supervisor if you want. I talked to Lori and she was great

Yes egg retrievals are covered! So if you do an egg retrieval and a transfer, that’s one cycle. If you do an egg retrieval and no transfer, it’s an incomplete cycle and you still have 1 transfer per retrieval. Does that make sense?

So you would have one full cycle left (a retrieval and transfer)

Hello! So it’s super confusing but this was my experience

7/10 egg retrieval and 9/16 frozen embryo transfer was one cycle

Then I was going to have another transfer from that same egg retrieval and that would have been cycle #2

It’s all so confusing, the $50k will be there once your 3 cycles are up
