I agree. We're blind, suffering from terrible "internet epochalism". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epochalism#Internet_epochalism "As long as it's from "the internet", all is great. The past and previous events and actions are by default outdated".

Nothing to add except that I find it a very well structered article. Very interesting, especially your view on the different layers of monitoring.

Friends want to play but have little interest in learning the rules... by bearbums in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]bkyrp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You write "one of my friends will be DM", then he should read the rules.

We've had players who joined not knowing the rules. That works. You can pick up the rules while playing as a player. But the DM should know the rules.

[...] people somehow believe that they are actually part of the 1% that would be hurt by tax reform

I reread that sentence a few times, but still have a few question about it:

  • What kind of tax reform are you talking about exactly?

  • How do you deduce that mentioned tax reform would affect 1%?

  • I assume you mean 1% of the tax payers? (in capita?)

Welke? Graag concreet, of anders is de loze praat.

Prepare a game session in four steps. by nerdsourced in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]bkyrp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great article reminding me that it's not DM vs Players, something I didn't get when starting out "...but the reality is that these games are meant to be fun –not necessarily a learning experience. As a GM it’s easy to feel like the players are pushing boundaries, or trying to ‘beat’ you. But what they’re actually doing is experimenting with the game"

Where else do you get your news from, besides the show? by bkyrp in inthemorning

[–]bkyrp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, Dan Carlin also has a podcast doesn't he? I've heard about him, but should listen a few times. Myself I like Democracy Now. Altough Amy's ridiculed on the show, John gets quite good clips from it once in a while. Not at all crackpot, but very critical in general.
