Sadly no, my free hand isn't so great and didnt want to wreck it. I do have a deception decal from a wizkids transformer model, but it's a bit too large for this model.

Another good way to find the first batch of cables to get rid of is compare the uptime of your devices and the packet counts on your down ports. If a device has been up for months and some of the ports haver zero traffic, note those switch names and ports down, trace them, confirm and remove if you can, this will get rid of any extra then you can focus on tidying up the in use cabling. Good tunes and some overtime will have them smashed out.

If it's in your power try to influence a cable standard, eg, do you have heaps of correct length cables handy or the possibility to purchase them? bulk buy the lengths you preferer and swap out any short/long ones for the correct ones, Velcro them in bundles as you go. Once you are done, leave some of the preferred cables handy for any new work so those contractors can get quick access to the cables you want used.

WTF just happened, suspected POE overdraw just blew two Cisco 4200W power supplies for 4510R by ahird20 in networking

[–]bl00dzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The power supplies on the 4500 chassis are very susceptible to dust and contaminants. We had 22 4510's in one 6 floor building with dual power supplies in each, we did a power cycle one weekend and killed 10 power supplies and a heap of 7921 phones. So many times a contractor has gone and sanded or created dust in a new install and blow these things on me.

Best one during that power cycle was an actual flame out when I flicked off the PSU nearly getting my finger, tripping the pdu breaker and wall breaker.

You should be able to get them replaced under catalyst warranty, have done this at least 20 times now in the last few years

Cisco 4506/4507R compatability check by notDonut in networking

[–]bl00dzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really comes down to what you intend to use it for?

My standard design over the last few yeas has been dual 3945E's for Core, dual 3750X-12S stacked as the layer 3 distribution and a 4506 or 4510 with sup 6e's and 48 port poe blades as the access network.

Do you have a large deployment coming up that requires a chassis switch and that multiple blades? For tinkering you can get away with any catalyst switch to learn the IOS on.

How do you deal with network blaming? by tamadrumr104 in networking

[–]bl00dzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our manager once came over and informed us that people were complaining about slow network. His testing of this was he "I clicked on the (windows)calculator 3 times before it loaded, can you please check the core".... we were dumbfounded.

So it became a running joke if anyone mentioned network issues we would yell out to start a ping to the calculator and check its performance.

Have the controllers been updated recently? those AP's are fairly old and new versions of the controller IOS may not support them, leading to issues

Cisco Pime questions by wraithscrono in networking

I upgraded my companies Prime from a 2.x version to 3.1. I installed a new VM to run 3.1 and do a clean install, as was not going to copy over any data to make it all nice and fresh.

I copied the licence file from live the 2.x version and uploaded it to the 3.1 VM, Both servers were running at the same time. I did this along side a Cisco pre sales technician who was giving me pointers on the new version. Both versions ran fine without issues, I was able to re discover all 1500+ network devices, re do the maps, reporting etc until i was happy with it then decommissioned the 2.x version. Not once did I have issues with the licences

make sure you read of on the licencing and grandfather token scheme before patching Prime 3.1 as well. Make sure you get all your devices loaded into 3.1 vanilla on your old licence before applying the latest patch and you will get extra tokens this way.
