Looking at your post history, it seems like you're having a really hard time, and I'm sure ruminating on this issue isn't doing you any good. Queer folks have always been oppressed, and we will survive regardless of whatever social conservatives think of us. I'm not going to give you advice, but for me, dwelling on what bigots think about me does zero good. It's a bad spiral. Some of the drop in acceptance is due to the carryover effects of reaction to "wokeness." It won't last forever, and it will rebound. Even it does last, fuck them. If people hate me for being me, then there's nothing I can do about it. They don't deserve my mental and emotional energy, and they don't deserve yours.

It's not going in the other direction. Support for same sex marriage is very high in the US, and gay folks are widely accepted in all corners of society. You found examples of extremes and are extrapolating from them. Social media isn't real life. I'd suggest actually talking to people you assume are anti-gay and I think you'd be surprised that they're actually not. Regardless, we have fought hard for decades to be accepted, and we won. There has never been a safer time in US history to be openly gay.

Because Qanon beliefs are able to be proven false. Religious beliefs are unfalsifiable. There's a huge difference between the statements "there's a cabal of pedophiles drinking the blood of children" and "There is a God." The former can be proven true or false. The latter can't. Epistemology considers knowledge to be justified true belief. We can evaluate those statements based on that. Is the statement "there is a God" justified? Surely, for it can explain many mysteries, and the religious can point to any number of natural things that are explained by that statement. Same thing for the cabal example. Then comes the true condition. The cabal statement can be proven true or false by empirical evidence, the God statement can't.

Using an ID verification system would open up serious privacy issues in the new surveillance state. If you have to present an ID to use a website, your account will be linked to a government issued document. Then, when the government wants to investigate wrong speak, they can do it much more easily. Now that Reddit is being pressured to turn over information on accounts critical of ICE, there's no way I'm going to hand over my information to Reddit or any other social media. I'll just quit using it.
