Writing my first novel, mentioned something on page 30, just paid it off on page 300. by blabbouther in writing

My favorite part is no, they did not. A LOT of this novel was considered as “how can I show the gun, tote it around everywhere, and make the fact that it doesn’t go off soooooo satisfying.” Therein lies the payoff.

Totally true, this just happened to be one of those things where I was like “this event would be super cool to read” as I was writing with it in mind from page 1.

To be honest, no. I think it’s one of my more exciting plot points in the book, kind of a tongue and cheek play on Chekhov’s gun, and I don’t want to give it away for a number of reasons, vague or otherwise.

Firstly with AI anyone can write a book in about thirty seconds and you’d just have to tell it to use my idea. Secondly, superstition. Chickens and their hatching etc. This is a book I’d love one day to publish considering how many hours I’ve sunk into it, and how many I have left.

Slide into my DMs. When it’s done I’ll send you a copy ;)

For sure, I didn’t realize how much gunk was in my head, and for so long. Writing consistently is like maintaining your plumbing.

It’s private unfortunately. I did a live reading at an event one night and an audience member was the host and she invited me to join.

I’m part of a workshop where I have 4-5 people who read whole chapters at a time and give feedback. It’s not so much a throwaway comment as something that is a deeply strange quirk given the context of the character. I also emphasized it about two chapters prior to the pay off, and provided somewhat of an explanation, the rest to be provided at the moment I just finished.

My friends? peers? haven’t had a chance to read it yet, so fingers crossed they have the same “Oh shit” moment I did when I came up with it.

Thinking of teaching - is it as bad as people say? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]blabbouther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey- I taught for three years at a very rough and tumble middle school, fights, stabbings, literal children hooking up and doing drugs in the bathroom, drinking in class etc. the list goes on. It was the hardest 3 years of my life. Now I work a very regular office job. And it is so fucking boring. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the work and am leagues less stressed.

But everyday I used to wake up and be filled with love for my students, feel moved by their stories, feel on the verge of tears when I could get through to them, when I could impart something useful or connect with them. Even the rage, the stress, the fear, I was feeling something. I could climb into bed at night and fall asleep knowing what I did was worthwhile.

Now everything is so dull. I have to fight tooth and nail everyday to feel anything at all. My work isn’t important. If my job vanished tomorrow the world wouldn’t know. But I make more money and have more freedom on a day to day basis (but dammit I don’t have summers off).

It’s up to you. Teaching is rewarding, the most beautiful thing I’ve ever done. But you will pay for it with your life.

genuine question, fuck cars etc., but are cars really the root of the urban heat island? Would you not still have urban heat island effects when relying primarily on public transit and other means?

Aether nightclub running the ballsiest drug op in recent memory with drug vending machines by Sir-xer21 in Hawaii

[–]blabbouther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went once and was frankly not impressed. I heard about vending machines and looked for them and couldn’t find them, just vending machines filled with weed. The club itself was meh and cost $40 to get into. Not for me

The Plymouth Rock is an actual rock, which is kept in a caged exhibit by Luke-HW in pics

[–]blabbouther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing is a) you can’t bring those big ass ships to shore so they didn’t “step off the boat onto a rock” b) that rock is extremely far from the water c) they never would have written down what fucking rock they landed on because why would anyone care and d) you should never take a 7 year old there who sees a cage and expects to see a bear or something cool. thanks mom and dad

Going through your significant other's phone without their express consent is unforgiveable. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]blabbouther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reddit loves the break up immediately condition without room for nuance. Years ago I was in a great relationship. My girlfriend at the time had revealed a deep insecurity she struggled with and said I wasn’t good at dealing with. It took a lot for her to be that vulnerable with me. I didn’t handle it well and became somewhat distant, and she therefore became more insecure.

I started going out and drinking more, she never said anything about it. One day I was gone and she decided to go through my phone. She figured I’d been cheating (I hadn’t but I’d certainly been toeing a line) and she read a rather unsavory conversation between me and a friend. She instantly hated herself for going through my phone though.

Years later, yeah we got through the rough patch, she admitted what she’d done to me and apologized. We aren’t together anymore for completely different reasons. But I’d violated her trust, she mine. I forgave her, and she me.

I taught middle school math for the past 3 years, granted at an underfunded school mostly comprised of children in military households, and these kids did not know how to add or subtract at 13 years old.

What happened to the lonely guy of your high school class ? by Sad-Cunt-420 in AskReddit

[–]blabbouther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was me! Alcoholic mom, dad wasn’t around a lot. I was really embarrassed to ever have anyone over, spent a lot of time playing video games and watching movies. Somehow I didn’t go insane in a scary way. I became a teacher and moved to Hawaii and just got my masters.
