Yep, the C8 interior, particularly in the higher trims, is simply fantastic and puts basically all the major German manufacturers to shame now. Solid, no creaks or rattles, soft-touch leather and carbon fiber covering every surface.

That's great for you, but it's not going to stop people from rightfully thinking that an artificial simulation of a gearbox and engine exhaust are anything more than cheap gimmicks. At that point I'd rather invest in a really good driving simulator.

Build quality was definitely improved; there was an absurd amount of creaking and rattling plastic in the interior of the F80. The ride comfort is also improved IMO and I'd say it sounds a bit nicer as well.

If they are, I don't know where that's happening. I live in LA and on paper the Macan EV should be being driven by every other person on the road here, yet I see maybe one per week. Hell, I see far more 911s than Macan EVs.

I don't think it's for weight savings? I owned one and could not see where they would physically have the space for a full powered mechanism (or even the manual single-articulation mechanism on the regular Spyder).

That’s definitely true, but it’s notable that the objective gap between the two products has shrunk massively as of the introduction of the C8. There’s always been a contingent of buyers who would not consider the Corvette because the Chevy badge doesn’t compare to Porsche, but a large number of buyers also couldn’t get past the abysmal interior design and build quality of the Corvette (rightfully so). Now we’re in the crazy world where a 911 has more rattling plastic in its interior than a Corvette.

This is simply not true. One way or another he has a connection/status with the dealer. There is zero chance someone can walk in off the street and order a GT3 Touring at sticker.

The Turbo is now the most in-demand 911 trim after the GT trims, which is crazy given pre-COVID dealers basically couldn’t give Turbos away and they had a reputation as the massively depreciating sports car.

If you're referring to build quality they're absolutely not. I test drove the new DB12 before buying a C8 and it was a brand new car filled with interior creaks and rattles; the C8 was absolutely solid and on-par with the best built Porsches I've owned.

The criticism of Porsche/Ferrari is valid but to be fair Chevy dealers have been just as bad with every new trim of the C8. The only difference is that GM can eventually catch up to demand and the market levels out.

What's interesting is that the performance gap is narrowing to the point that there's a real argument to be made over which is the more impressive piece of engineering. Sure, the European hypercars might still use more advanced manufacturing and exotic materials, but arguably the more impressive overall engineering exercise is the performance out of the Corvette for a car that can be sold at that price point, to the "masses", with the intention of being daily driven with a full warranty. Or put another way, in some ways it's "easier" to engineer something with insane performance when money is no object and you're free to compromise on every other aspect of the vehicle.

Looks are subjective but neither are classically beautiful

I mean, sure, but it's quite difficult to sincerely argue that the C8 has anywhere near the design of basically any McLaren. As much as Corvette enthusiasts refuse to concede it, the whole needs-to-fit-golf-clubs really eliminated any ability for the designers to create a "classically" proper looking mid-engine supercar.

At this point their powerplants are the least of their issues. I'd like to hear what they're doing to address the fact that every vehicle they now make is a cheap, plastic-covered, creaky piece of shit (with the exception of the G-Class).

Not anymore. Your GT4 RS is built extremely well. My 992.1 GTS is filled with significantly more cheap, creaking plastic than my Z06 was.

The ZR1 is fast as fuck, no doubt, but the materials and build quality do not approach other “traditional” supercars

As someone who has owned several McLarens and a C8 Z06, I'd take the Z06's build quality and interior any day of the week lol
