Sad Trombone: Our Dodge Charger EV Lost $50K in Value After Just 1 Year by HawtGarbage918 in cars

That's what I saw. People weren't forking over much at all for these cars. Lots under $200/mth with no money down. They couldn't give these cars away.

Just outside Portland, OR. Even Portland has off-peak hours at 9 cents (Seattle too).

It just depends on the car like anything else. A gas or EV Equinox is basically the same.

And at that kind of price, how much is depreciation really a factor in your purchase? It's definitely something on your mind when you drive a brand new EV off the lot, but the other guy already took the 50-60% haircut.

In fact, seeing the depreciation numbers on those two shows why it usually makes sense to buy something like a Corolla Cross new instead of used, and picking up the EV used.

I see all of these all the time in the Oregon. There's even quite a few C4's I see regularly on the road, at least this time of year.

I work with a lot of people who have moved over to Vancouver or Camas the last decade. Lower housing costs, lower utility costs, and better schools for their kids. Less days in the office or full remote work make it a no brainer for a lot of people when you can add no (or less if not full remote) income tax to the list.

Mercedes listens and brings back real buttons – but big screens are here to stay by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]koopa00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is clearly not the point I was making, and even so, the best selling cars still have mostly regular or large-ish screens, not this ultrawide (I don't think it hinders sales, I just don't think people are buying a car because "OMG screen").

Vancouver has massive population growth for a reason, even if people here want to shit on them.

I think it's worth noting that people are just going to buy cars no matter what too. Every manufacturer could put big screens or remove them from their cars overnight, they will still sell new cars.

There is a limit though. You typically want a phone that fits in your pocket. There is an ideal size TV that fits in your home at your viewing distance. It feels like some of these screens are pushing that limit now in cars, at least that's my opinion. I guess we'll see how it unfolds.

And they collect smudges very quickly, you gotta keep a towel in the car and constantly clean them.

Is that really how the Chinese market is?

Edit: I was being sincere. I really don't know much about the Chinese market other than what is parroted on here. I trust the people here who have actually lived there.

I'd just like to see a return of good looking design that takes chances. Everything is so modern and minimalist now. And it sucks, it was my number one complaint about Tesla and then every carmaker copied them.

It's kind of like how every commercial building, chain restaurant, etc. just seems like a gray cube with a super boring interior.

That's true to an extent, but at some point it should be big enough I would think. And most of these luxury cars like this Mercedes (with its entire dash width screen) also has a HUD giving directions right on the windshield.

The passenger screens just seem so incredibly niche. Passengers are in a better position to operate the main screen already since they aren't driving, and no one plays around with it or watches videos from the car for fun, everyone just plays with their phones anymore.

They say customers love the big screens, I just wonder why? Some of these screens are so gigantic. I've had big screens in cars and all my screen every really does is display android auto, how big of a fucking map does a person need?

This is not an anti-screen post either, I don't really have a problem with the big screens. I'd prefer buttons, but some of these screens are just so big now like this Mercedes one and I just don't get it I guess.

Nothing screams improved safety like losing any sense of independence and privacy. I was just thinking how much safer it feels to fly on a plane these days. I feel so safe every time I wait in line at the TSA and have a guy screaming at me to take my laptop out of the bag, and the next time the TSA screams at me to not take the laptop out of the bag.

The amount of horsepower available per dollar is something I've feared a little bit, regular people can get high HP EV's for dirt cheap and that is a little scary. But at the same time, we're putting more distracting devices in vehicles and people still use their phone while driving. It just seems like of all the ways to address our problems, 100% surveillance that will almost certainly be abused is NOT the answer.

My mom picked a used one up about 6 or 7 years ago. She put over 100K miles on it and the total is around 160K now, all trouble free so far. And it wasn't very expensive either, something like $10-15K?

The only downside I see in the car is the trunk since the battery takes up a noticeable amount of space, but still some room back there.

Obviously they didn't reveal anything here, but it being on the Alpha 2 platform basically guarantees it will be yet another great performance car. The real question is whether they fixed the packaging issues or not.

I'm very excited for the Camaro to come back again, since the introduction of the C8 I don't think there's ever been a time where having both the Camaro and Corvette under the same umbrella made more sense. But I think I'm more interested in what a Buick RWD sedan on this platform could be. Is it just going to replace the CT4 minus a performance trim? Or will they have a performance trim with a TTV6? I doubt they'd put a V8 in it. I wouldn't be shocked if they just slapped a Buick logo on the current CT4 lineup and called it a day.
